I've heard the same has happened in the field of history. Rather than going to primary sources they rely on others works and it a rehash. If the researcher got something wrong then everyone referring to their work would then be incorrect.

@General Melchett Why would anybody care about the 11,000 scientists from IPCC and their reports ? Could it have to do with their satellite surveys and from numerous labs around the globe ?
If he was truly fired for being critical of the scientific institution's QA process, then we have regressed to the dark ages.
