He had the best inflections. Others sang it well but with not that much emotion. He had the best emotion and inflections.

I saw Superstar in Santa Barbara CA in 1972. The NY cast was performing. At first I thought it was scandalous but was in tears before the end of the performance. After that , my husband and sons listened to it every Holy Week. An awesome show full of meaning.

THIS is the Jesus who sang Gethsemane best! Kudos to Glenn Carter! I feel what Jesus is going through here through Carter.
It seems there's a struggle between, Don't let me go through this and Father, if you want me to go through this, I'll do it that Jesus felt in Gethsemane . Carter hits this struggle in his song.

I'm watching this on Maundy Thursday 2020, a time when so many are feeling fear and tremendous sadness. This is so raw for me. Even moreso that He walked amongst the suffering and isolated, and still does, collecting our tears in a bottle

The acting is first rate in this scene...but in my opinion, there is something lacking in the energy which Carter put into the song. Jesus actually has very few lines singing or otherwise after this (because by that point, he's become the sacrificial lamb and knows he cannot escape his fate, so he makes absolutely no effort to resist). This leaves room for whoever is playing the role of Jesus to give it his all in this scene, hold virtually nothing back, and have almost nothing left at the end -- and since Jesus himself no longer has any recourse in the context of the story, this is what the actor probably ought to do with this scene. The energy of this song should be raw...but Carter didn't really choose to go there (which is a bit odd, especially since this was clearly a studio performance meaning that there's a very good chance they didn't film it all in one go).

That version lacks power, lacks balls and lacks the harshness in the scream. There's no desperation in his singing... it's not what the song clains. I don't like the "soft" versions. I go with Ted Neely, Ian Gillan, Drew sarich, john farhamn and others such,,, as they made this very visceral and perfect....

I'm in agreement. Much as I hate to say it, this rendition simply...sucks!!!
Ian Gillan's and Ted Neeley's performances are as legendary as they are incomparable. Both being original cast members (Ian on record and Ted on film), set the standard by which all other performances are measured.

This movie is so bad, the original from 1973 is so much better, the singing, the acting, setting etc etc etc. This is just a cheap low quality copy..

I love this musical... ✝️ However the 2000 movie version did not catch me... My favorite Jesus still remains 🤍 Ted Neeley 🤍 for several reasons, but Glen has touched me here too, especially with his mimic expressions... I am sure he gave the best he could, and I can feel his efforts and ambition to portray this very demanding role most convincingly an actor even can... He's a good and admirable Jesus, deserving respect and recognition... 🙏
