Very informative. Thanks for the deep dive
You're welcome! Alpine just released a firmware update too
That's a clean installation
Thanks!
That looks clean!!! I have the 2016 2500HD duramax and have been trying to decide which head unit to go with and i really like this
I think out of everything available, it fits, works and looks the best!
@@MotorPsychoSportwhich Metra install kit did you use?
Looks nice bud, surprised anything is missing using the maestro even just the now playing in the cluster, hopefully they give an update for it later for you. I'm in Australia and we have only recently got the maestro and it has to be installed by a special person they approve at the moment and I know what I'm doing and refuse to pay someone else to 😂 love that it has obd input.
Thanks! Yea it doesn't really bother me anymore because the 11 inch screen is so big I can see everything easily. I keep my speedo on the middle gauge screen now. That's wild they have to be installed by an approved person. Here they sell them at retail to anyone.
it looks good
Thanks!
La pantalla 511 es desmontable?
Is your Sierra equipped with the Bose system? If so, what additional items are required to integrate into an existing Bose system without issues? I love the float look as it looks much more modern.
No mine's an SLE so no Bose. I think Maestro makes a kit to work with Bose but requires more work. Yea it definitely changed my whole experience in the truck. I couldn't even really do bluetooth audio for songs with the factory radio, had to control it from the phone. This is night and day better
Have you looked into the Maestro connections? Could be what you need to get your steering wheel audio controls back.
The steering wheel controls work, it's just the screen in between the gauges that doesn't display anything. I could never get anyone to give me an answer on it. But from what I can tell, the new system doesn't communicate with it.
@@MotorPsychoSport Correct, the screen between the gauges does not have that technology. The only way you might get this to work is with the GMC cluster swap from a 2016+ that normally would support the feature.
Can you put a link for the metra dash kit you have? I like the design too
metraonline.com/part/99-3014G
I was wondering if you were able to show all of what needs to be cut out behind the dash? I’m debating on getting this radio if I’m going to have to destroy the dash. Thanks
I had to cut everything out of the dash, everything with a sawzall. If you want this radio, everything must come out.
Congratulations on the video. One question... Nowadays (2024) the most complete Multimedia Receiver models have advanced features, such as: 13-band graphic equalizer; active crossover; time alignment; 3 pre-amplified RCA audio outputs (4V); 3-way network mode (Low, Mid, High). So I ask: could the use of such a Multimedia Receiver “in theory” dispense with the use of an audio processor (DSP)? Or in practice will the use of a DSP always bring superior audio quality?
Thanks! I don't think in this model a DSP would make a huge difference. However Alpine has some new one's out that use a mic to automatically calibrate your car which may make a difference.
Great video. Does your backup camera still work? Is that controlled by the maestro or something else?
Thanks! Yes it still works, it plugs right into the factory camera.
@@MotorPsychoSportawesome. Thanks for the reply!
Getting this installed Monday. Last question (maybe I missed it), is there anyway I can watch videos/movies on it? Mirroring is fine if I have to do it, just wasn’t sure if I had the option. My assumption wound be using a USB and then clicking the USB button on the screen and mirror?
You can’t watch through the USB connectors, at least I haven’t been able to. The way to do it is add a Fire Stick or Chrome cast stick to the hdmi port and you can watch video that way from your phone
@@MotorPsychoSportwhere’s the HDMI’ port
Do you guys sell the dash install kit with the head unit? I have the same interior 2016 duramax@@MotorPsychoSport
Did you install the idatalink maestro it should allow you to keep the features. It did in my f150
Yes I did, but it still doesn't retain the audio controls for the screen between the gauges
can you still get to your vehicle setting like turning on heated seats with remote start ,ect with this radio?
Yes you can still get to the factory settings but it required an idata maestro harness kit
Just received mine today I heard from a reputable audio shop that you don’t need to cut your dash since it’s a single din
Let me know I’m getting mine Friday what trim did you get
@@Pipedbytony97145 I got the one from Crutchfield
@@TuryLanderos where can you plug in a usb thumb on this alpine to play mp3s? where is the usb or aux-in port located?
@@TuryLanderosdid you have to cut the rails out?
You don’t have to cut, you buy a dash for it, like Metra….
USB is an extension, you place it where you want… it’s a dongle wire …
Can I get some help anyone , can’t seem to find anything that will fit for my 2016 Chevy Tahoe it has that slide up screen and don’t know what aftermarket radios are out there for it … in this video was the slide up screen installed in here previously? Someone please help
No, only the Tahoe's and Yukon's come with the slide up screen. Mine was a fixed screen in the middle of the dash and was easy to replace. I have no experience swapping a Tahoe or Yukon screen, sorry!
Can you explain how to hook up the obd2?
It has an OBD2 Dongle that plugs into your obd port under the dash
I read that you can only use the Alpine cameras with this. Did you replace your reverse camera with the Alpine one?
No, the factory camera is connected to it. You can use any camera you want, it has a yellow RCA input for the camera so should work with any brand. Maybe the dash cam they sell is the only one that will work with it?
Since this is no longer a factory stereo does it bypass the stupid restrictions such as using apps while driving or adding a new Bluetooth device while driving? It's irritating that they restrict this on factory stereos ... I guess they never considered that you might have a passenger to do all this stuff.
The idata Maestro knows when you are driving or not so yes it restricts it still. But you can buy a bypass kit on ebay and make it work anytime. I just didn't bother with it
@@MotorPsychoSport so the kit you are talking about... is that the same type of thing as the 'parking break' device that will bypass the motor auto shut off when you stop the truck at a red light for example?
It bothers me that it only comes with one year warranty. What’s the typical life of one of the units?
It seems today everything comes with short warranties. I'm not sure as they are brand new but in the past I've never had an Alpine unit die or have an issue.
What’s the model number of that Metra Dash Kit?
99-3014G
How much $ ? Thinking for a 2010 F250 Super Duty No subwoofer nor amp ??
I think it's around $1300
Or possibly even do an install video if you ever install another one in that style GM.
I have pictures from the install.
@@MotorPsychoSport care to share pics?
Yes please. That would be greatly appreciated
Hows your cluster all red?
gmc’s have all red cluster and chevrolets come in blue, i’ve thought about buying a gmc cluster and putting it in my chevrolet.
Also depending on if your truck is gas/diesel from 2015-16 the Denali HD came with red and after 2016 they changed to blue on the Denali HD
I think 2014 and 2015 GMC's came with red while Chevy came with blue as noted in earlier comments. Then in 2016 or 17 GM made both blue. Probably to cut costs
Without Maestro would have lost all the car info on the small screen like tire pressure, coolant temperature etc. ?
Not sure, I have everything on the small screen but the audio data
Where’s the usb plug in?
I put them in the cup holder pocket in the center console
Just got mine for $350 at best buy. Usually they go for 1300. Only in store
Fr ?
350? Thats crazy
🧢
Are you thinking of the ILX-W650?
No it's the ilxF511, I'm I'm so cal just have to go in to the store. Best buy
1:03 Dam you have transformer that’s turn from car to a truck!! 🤔🧐😆🤣😂
Car Truck Vehicle People Mover :)
47 PSI???
Yea its normal for truck tires with LT, i run 50-55 on my Sierra 2500 HD Denali
Ya I have Toyo Open Country AT3's in 33x12.50R18's and they are Load Range F. Technically I should be at 50psi minimum but I like it a little softer since I'm a 1500 and not a 2500.
@@ns5337 Exactly, these are technically LT tires, Load Range F but I'm in a 1500 so I keep it just below 50 PSI.
@@MotorPsychoSport Yea im running the same size tires on Goodyear duratracs. I increase the tire pressure whenever I'm pulling a trailer.
7 hours to install ommmfgggg😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yea it had a crazy amount of wires and I'm a perfectionist so everything is zip ties and wired nicely.
Not good installation 👎🏽
haha oh ya?
Why you say that? Looks pretty damn good to me.
Didn't use a data link maestro.
