Almost every person on this planet has had a moment like Marianne's. It's heart breaking but the strength of that individuals character will determine their survival from it.....
Your comment makes absolutely no sense in this context. Watch the film;then make a comment that relates in some way. Also, any male who "expects" a grown female to be a virgin "just for him" in the modern world is a huge infant and a moron. Grow up you spoiled child.
Personally I felt a little joy when he ignored her, just like she was rude and ignored coronel brandon
@@abel4776 and what exactly motivated you to make such a bitter remark? The original comment was simply about heartbreak and yet here you have decided to throw out a snark comment on women and victimise yourself. Should not the man or woman in Christ be gentle and patience with endurance? Aren't we called to not play the victim card unless actually made a victim - and even then strengthened?

How incredibly good are all the actors in this movie? Each of them are perfect in their role.
1:55 "Wearing their country fashions, I see!"
They actually look very nice.
I would have decked Ms Grey if she wasn't a lady.
I love how f**kbois were a thing in Jane Austen’s era
Fboys existed since man could talk
Emma Thompson eventually married Willoughby, they fell in love during filming.
"Wearing their country fashions I see." Bitches!
The actress who plays Elinor and the actor who plays Willoughby are married to each other in real life.
Nicholas Lawrence wait what nooo way ahahaha
ThunderPlunder101 its true. They fell in love during the movie
While watching the movie,I did think they had better chemistry than Marianne and Willoughby
You have got to be kidding me!
yes indeed, in the end Elinor stoled Willoughby to Marianne 😉😂😂😂
I know Marianne's state all to well. It's a horrible thing to go through & I do not wish it on anyone. I'm still not completely healed from mine & I'm married. Some wounds can never be completely healed.
❤❤❤
That's awful from your part . To get married while still carrying stuff like this . Feel bad for the husband
Why the book is better than the film:
One scene we don’t get - Marianne sick and dying in a bed, and a miserable, married Willoughby hearing about it, getting drunk, and driving his carriage to where they’re staying and almost getting his face slammed in the door and locked outside by Elinor!
He begs pathetically at the door for just 5 minutes. Being nice, Elinor lets him in, and he gives a sad, sloppy confession with Elinor listening and scolding him like the man-child he is. It turns out that his new wife is a jealous shrew and upon finding Marianne’s letters to him, wrote out a terrible, mean letter and made him copy it in his own hand and send it to Marianne, breaking her heart.
He lives spending the rest of his life married to the shrew, and is always comparing every supposed beauty to Marianne ( his unattainable ideal).
This is why I liked the BBC version better.
@@sarawinardi6745 In the book the narrator shows him content with the choice he made.
@@bernadette573 i don’t know which version you read but I do remember that he did not marry Miss Grey out of love. He married because he needed the money, since he was kicked out because he got Brandon’s foster daughter pregnant. He even said that she knows about the whole situation and held it over his head. Hence his drunken speech. In the BBC version, the one where Dominic Cooper plays Willoughby, they did that scene that Mariah ( the person who posted that comment) was talking about.
@@sarawinardi6745 Yes, he was a cad, and seduced and abandoned Eliza, and got drunk and gambled and had expensive habits. I wanted something awful to befall him, and instead the narrator showed he found a measure of happiness in his choices. Austen had a much bigger heart than me. I wanted him to break his neck riding, but she wrote: Willoughby was one “to exert, and frequently to enjoy himself. His wife was not always out of humor, nor his home always uncomfortable; and in his breed of horses and dogs, and in sporting of every kind, he found no inconsiderable degree of domestic felicity.”
Now I want to read the book I absolutely love this film. It was exceptionally cast. Rest Allen Rickman's beautiful soul. He wasn't as dashing as Willoughby but I liked him better anyways especially that deep voice.
“Wearing their country fashions, I see.” LOL
“ Baring their country passions” ie showing them. Her attitude is that Marianne and Elinor are like peasants. 👍🏻
@@gennyreid3240 reminds me of Mrs Oleson in LHOTP!
He chose money over u sweetie. He will regret it. U don't need nobody w. Side burns as he has them. 🤢
He won't. Regret it that is. Well, he'll regret not marrying her especially after he finds out that his aunt would have written him back into her will if he'd married Marianne because even if she has no money of her own, she's still a respectable girl from a respectable family and that would have been enough to get him back into her good graces. But ultimately he'll always find some way to enjoy himself because he's rich enough now to go on doing whatever he likes, and his wife isn't always in an unpleasant mood. Though he will always see Marianne as the perfect woman that no other woman can hold a candle to, and as his real love lost to him forever, though as Elinor reflected he's more sad that he didn't get both money and the girl he loves and because it hasn't ended as well for himself as he would have liked, he's not sad solely because he lost the woman he loved or that he has made the woman he loved unhappy. We get a whole paragraph dedicated to him at the end of the book telling us all this, I think it's to cement in our heads forever that he's not the romantic hero Marianne imagined him to be, because he'll get on just fine without her and won't spend the rest of his life in absolute misery.
We also get an earlier scene where he declares his feelings for Marianne to Elinor where he tries to justify his actions towards the other young girl (pointing out that his behaviour doesn't mean that she was above reproach which doesn't really do him any justice because he's as good as trying to deny that this was even slightly his fault and saying that the didn't know things had gotten that bad for her because he hadn't realised he'd forgotten to give her his address), admits that he first pursued Marianne for fun but then genuinely fell for her and wanted to marry her, and then reveals that his fiancé dictated that letter he wrote to Marianne (she knows he doesn't love her but she won't be pushed aside for anyone else) and Elinor forgives him to a certain point without forgiving him for everything. Her mother doesn't forgive him as readily when Elinor tells her about it, and Elinor figures it was because she wasn't there to hear him actually say it in the moment, but she doesn't argue for him any further because she's had time to reflect fully on his confession and can see that even though he admits to some of his selfishness and carelessness with other people he can't see how selfish he's actually been.
As Marianne says at the end he will be unhappy. And she married him she would share in it. He will forever miss her while being in a loveless marriage that he has to stay in for financial reasons. But had he married Marianne then he would have wanted more material things
Reminds me of bridgette jones " you should seriously reconsider your side burns"
Kate is soooo cuteee😫❤️
so sad... :( I have felt this feeling.... timeless
Me too...
PRAISE GOD! The style of her hair (Kate Winslet) it just look like in "Titanic".
Actually ladies fashion from early 19th century (Sense and Sensibility Period) inspired 1910-1913 fashion (Titanic period) in their high waisted gown, see through textile and Grecian hair style. No wonder Marianne character hairstyle look a like Rose hair style
Her hairstyle was best in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.......!!!
Yes, just like history, fashion repeats itself.
@@shouvikghosh8946 No, her hair in Titanic is the best. I wish her hairstyle here is the same as her hairstyle in that movie

I had such a heartfelt crush on Willoughby, the cad
this scene depicts so well, that feeling that women try to express in movies, stories, etc about loving someone you can never have
It's not exactly about that. It's about being deceived, used and discarded, having your heart broken, being humiliated, gaslit and trying to find your footing again. That's what this scene is about, she didn't realize yet that she ''can't have him''.
Fair enough, although I felt sorry for Willoby. Maryann and Col Brandon both believe that he intended to marry her and did love her; but the theme was that he had to marry the other girl for her dowry and important family arrangements. Marriage is a business, is the theme. Not so much that Willoby didn't love her.

One of my most favourite movies 😍
I agree. Would love to see it again.
Yeah, I loved this movie!!
this music is wonderful too.
I watch it every time it comes on without fail!
His fiance is stunning too
But cold and cruel. Marianne is more stunning and genuine.
Beautiful and elegant
I thought so too, the actor who played Ms Grey is stunning. But Marianne is the stereotype of the era for beauty, I believe.
She is beautiful perfect

@@skyguy696 No
Yay! 100th like!
This scene is so painful!
I quote this scene on a regular basis! 😂 I feel so bad for Marianne though. She’s acting very teenage girl like right now but she also has teenage girl emotions which are hard to handle
I wish there was more to these characters. Is there more is there a second or third or fourth book🤣🤣🤣🤣. I'll read them all.
Unfortunately no. However, Jane Austin wrote many other stories like this one. All her books are wonderful.
They fit together
0:30 Hands off Kate. That's Emma's husband.
I don't believe they were married at that time. Emma and Greg Wise met on that set.
@@jenniferbauer600 In addition, it's been said that Greg initially liked Kate. Greg and Kate dated briefly before Emma and Greg dated each other.
@@throughthelookingglass5973 yes, that's very true! Apparently Kate was bored on her date with Greg. Poor guy! 😂
@@jennifervb66 Wow! I did not know that. I feel bad for Greg. Well, at least Emma's not bored with him. They're still together even today.
@@throughthelookingglass5973 I've read somewhere that a fortune teller had told him that he would meet his soulmate (or life partner, something like that ) on the set of this movie so he just took his chances with Dashwood sisters....
Did the calling out his name scene happen in the book?
And. This is when my heart broke for all of them. I felt that pain the poor thing.
Qué triste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kate Winslet as Marie-Thérèse Charlotte de France (19 December 1778 - 19 October 1851) was the eldest child of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette of France, and their only child to reach adulthood.
How scandalous!
What chapter does this clip correspond to in the book?
Past
Chapter 28
Here Kate Winslet is poor but on TITANIC she Is rich x)
At the start of this film she is very wealthy. It is only after her father dies that the women are turned out of the great estate and left in poverty by their older half brother.
Although now poor, they retain their upper crust upbringing and manners. And are still included in high society. Otherwise they would not have been at the ball in the first place.
Come to think of it that's similar to Titanic. She starts off rich and takes herself out of those circles. At least she had a choice in that film.
Actually I’m titanic they acted rich but they were poor
In*
Her father left them nothing
Weird. Its almost like she's playing two completely different characters...
Come away, dearest…
Willoughby
Mr Willoughby.......
Mr Willoughby: Ohhh!!! It's her!!!!!!Again!!!!!!!!!!
ET: Yes, you damn well know it's me you viscious and coniving dundaree.
Mr W: Shall I slap u now Ms Dashwood?
ET: You stink of the 18th century and you have bad breath Mr Willoughby
....is the dialogue they should've been having.
Cuando podemos volverá ver esta película ???💁♀️😥🌈
This happened to me it's awful
Me too it's awful to feel like an emotional plaything. How can a man look at you like you're so incredible and take such thoughtful care of you yet still be a scoundrel???
I don't buy they could be sisters, it's like 20 years difference
What's wrong with their dresses?
They are a little bit "rustic", simpler than the ones from the big cities, especially from the high class sectors. So what this lady does is mock about them. (sorry for my poor english, this is not my mother tongue).
I've forgotten how old Elinor and Marianne were in the novel....20 and 18? 19 and 17?
Elinor is nineteen and Marianne is sixteen.
@@alyosha.f.karamazov Emma Thompson looks 45, but a wonderful actress nevertheless....
What a deal, a stuck up beauty and 50,000 pounds. Today that would be what, 50 Million.
I don't know the character of this beautiful woman but:
Beauty fades, character stays.
"Wearing their country fashions I see!"
WTF
I don't understand why Emma Thompson was cast. She looks old enough to be Marianne's mother.
Because she is an astounding actress that transcends age!
No she doesn't? She looks pretty young here, and it was the directors wish she played Elinor anyway
This movie wouldn’t have existed if not for her, she wrote the screenplay. Initially, she didn’t want to play Elinor, but the director Ang Lee convinced her plus the studios wouldn’t fund the movie if she didn’t star. Emma has always been regarded as a great actress, but in the mid-90s particularly she was in a career high, having won an oscar plus nominated for two more within the five years before this movie was made. People want to see her.
People are extra harsh to her when it comes to age compared to the men in this movie (Alan Rickman in particular) who are much older than their characters as well.
Get your eyes checked
Oh shut up emma Thompson... I just felt like typing that, spur of the moment. HAHAHA!
Emma Thompson has more talent in her little finger than you will ever have in your entire life.
Victorian, so pretty
Georgian.... Napoleonic era.
Regency
I have to say Miss Grey is GORGEOUS! And rich. I would marry her over pudgy Kate Winslet any time.
Frank Paul Lomas not everything is about money or looks!
"Pudgy" Kate Winslet...yeah right. You can have Miss Grey, who vanished into oblivion. Give me the ever-gorgeous Kate who has earned multiple Oscar nominations and an Oscar and starred in many films in the past twenty years. She's been gorgeous since Heavenly Creatures, and her lusty enthusiasm for life makes her all the more gorgeous. You must be very young as any man with experience knows that women like Miss Grey are absolutely terrible prudes in bed. She'd be a miserable harpy of a wife.
That's your opinion. I am utterly contemptuous of women who are crass, hysterical, and lack intelligence and pride of their person, their name or their family, etc.
@@frankpaullomas1767 You're a pseudo-intellectual and pretentious idiot who wouldn't have the luxury of choosing either of the two.
