Thank you, BD! This takes me back down memory lane ... all good times! Your video stirred up my passion for stoves so this weekend I will take my Omnifuel stove out and fire it up and follow your techniques. Keep your videos coming! 🙂
Bought my first Trangia 25 just a month ago. As soon as I found out about the multifuel adapter cup, I put my trusty Omnifuel with OmniDawg in one. Perfect setup for the upcoming South Dakota winter!
I tested both and sometimes X2 started sooting after putting pot on trangia. Diesel did not burn clean at all so it was for white gas or butane only. Omnifuel burns clean and can handle also diesel without any issues. Simmer control also on omnifuel makes a huge difference and of course much higher output is a really nice feature on cold conditions.
Great! I agree (why I made the video). The Omnifuel is far superior and costs less. But, never use diesel in either stove. The instructions for both stoves make that completely clear - diesel is a fuel to use only if you have nothing else. It's too heavy and can't vaporize properly in small stoves. There is no such thing as a stove that will burn "any fuel". That's just marketing hype. 👍 BD
Thanks a lot, Lord of the flames! Still grateful for all the advice that helped me to get my Optimus 111C Hiker running again - working like a charm ever since… And how pleasantly different your clips are from all the loud, flashy, nonsensical stuff out there… Have a good time.
Hi! I’m trying to fully disassemble my Optimus Nova+, including the fuel cylinder. Could you share what tools I need and any tips for safely taking it apart? Thanks for your help!
Not sure I understand what you are calling the "fuel cylinder". This is where sending (emailing) me a photo or two of what you want to take apart is going to work better than asking in comments. It's free and I'm generally helpful if you are polite. bd@berniedawg.com BD
Thank you for this nice video. I have noticed that same sound - I guess you said jug- on my stoves. Do you know what is causing this phenomenon? Is it perhaps some sort of resonance or what?
I was describing the sound as "chugging", like an old time steam train does. Yes. I do know what's causing this phenomena. It's the rhythmic "explosion" of the liquid fuel into vapor inside the stoves hot parts that causes this. It is a big topic with quite a bit of science involved which is beyond the scope of a UA-cam comment. Chugging (aka pulsing or other terms) can be mediated in a variety of ways, one of which (closing the fuel feed valve down as much as possible without limiting output) I describe and demonstrate in the video. BD
You can make Trangia X2 work much better if you chance flame speader to Omnifuel or even better Optimus Polaris one and use bigger 0.37 jet. In stock setting stove is unusable.
@Pikkueme Yup. I’m well aware you can replace X2 parts with Omnifuel parts to make the X2 more like an Omnifuel. Been there, done that - and a whole lot more cool stove stuff you don’t seem aware of. But, as you say, the X2 is pretty much unusable out of the box. And, the X2 will NEVER have the ability to have a fully adjustable stove-side spindle control. So, the point of the video is to communicate all this to people so they don’t spend a lot more on an X2 (over the lower price of the fully featured) Omnifuel and then have to spend even MORE on jets and flame plates trying to get the crazy expensive failed product X2 to actually work. Seems dumb - when you can buy an Omnifuel and a Trangia stove mounting cup for less than the price of the joke-of-a-“stove” X2. The Omnifuel drops right into the cup in about five minutes. Those that already have X2s would be well-advised to dump them through resale (or in the bin) and upgrade to the much more usable and intelligent Omnifuel. Life is short. Be happier with a stove that actually works and works well. No one sane goes into the outdoors so they can curse and yell at their crappy gear. 😉👍 BD
Yup. I know. About 12/2023 iirc. So, not all that recent. Maybe because it costs substantially more than an Omnifuel and comes with fewer features and abilities. 🤔 If you get a Trangia cup separately, you can easily mount an Omnifuel in a Trangia. BD
Next time i pass by the factory i will pick up cup and mod one of my Trangia's to be able to use it with my Optimus Polaris. Not as easy as converting it for the Omnifuel but i already have the Polaris. 👍
Really good choice. It's actually super easy to drop the Polaris right into the Trangia cup. Takes 3-4 minutes. No mods needed. After all, the Trangia cup was originated to fit the Polaris predecessor, the Nova. The Nova and Polaris have identical external footprints. 👍 BD
NICE!!! Glad to see a new BernieDawg video!!! Yay!!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! BD

Trangia have recently discontinued the x2.
