already Subs for both channel. I jave 600d and am still learning. And will share some photos using my canon this year 😀😀 i just bought it last month...Cant wait to try your tips. Can i ask what best lenses to use for videos? I have 18-200mm tamaron lens i stead of canon 18-55mm.
Hey thanks for jumping on board Jennie! I recommend using the kit lens to start, then if you want to do more photography, get a Canon 50mm lens (it gives a really really nice blurry background). If you're doing more video, get a Canon 10mm-18mm because that lense will be very wide, meaning you can get a lot in the shot.
@@gibsonedu do you recommend canon 200D or canon 600D if i am concerned in image quality and not really much video quality as well as it being affordable. I know there's a huge gap between these 2 cameras but i think the only difference between them image quality wise is the amount of megapixels (17.9 vs 24) am i right? Your reply is going to be soooo helpful i am so confused Thank you !

@@zeinabalkayed223 I'd for sure go with the 200D, also known as the SL2. I made a video on it on my other UA-cam channel - ua-cam.com/video/kL_srusE-0U/v-deo.html
So when I usually record indoor I have to set it at 6400 iso and it’s still low then I have to changer shutter higher to actually see image. But I do notice it gets grainy so you generally need to stay at 1000 iso just invest in a ring light maybe?!? I just have a hard time getting the video image to show bright enough to see
Yeah with a budget camera like the T3i, the best way to get a brighter image is to have more actual light in your shot, be it with a lighting ring or filming in front of a window or just using a lot of lamps. More expensive cameras can raise the ISO a lot higher without getting grainy.
Will you be able to see a noticeable change in the video if you set your ISO setting to auto? For example if I'm recording a sunrise, as it gets brighter will I see the notches of brightness change as the camera automatically changes the ISO setting?
If you're doing a timelapse of the sunrise, I wouldn't set the ISO to auto because you won't really get that dark-to-light effect since the ISO will be really high when it's dark and then get really low when it's bright.
I'm very new to this and having trouble getting my videos to focus. I'm using an EFS 18-55mm zoom lens and if i keep the camera ~8 feet away from myself and other things its very blurry. No matter what I've done I can't get it to focus clearly. The only thing that works is to bring the camera within like 12 inches of the object, but i need to have a wider shot. Any advice on that front? Thank you
The very end of the lens rotates as well and that helps put things in and out of focus. Try that and let me know. Also search 'Using the canon kit lens' and see what comes up on UA-cam.
Great video! Do you do any shooting of life theatrical events? I have a Canon T3 and I'm having a heck of a time getting the lighting right so I don't end up with hot spots on faces when people are singing a solo or something on stage. Any tips would be appreciated!
I don't do theatrical events but with spotlight on someone, you'll have to just lower your ISO and maybe even raise your aperture. The rest of the stage will likely be too dark to see but at least the soloist won't be washed out.

I have a question. Love the tips but I'm curious about shooting tracking shots like running. What is the best frame rate to shoot that with on a canon dslr?
Athletic stuff is almost always filmed at the highest frame rate. Looks ‘higher energy’ and looks better when you put it in slow motion. With the T3i, the highest frame rate is 60fps. You’ll want to set the shutter speed to 120 if you do that. Lower your aperture as much as you can and then raise the ISO only as much as you need to
@@gibsonedu nice. That's where I was having issues. I know you got to adjust both but wasnt sure about the aperture. I appreciate your quick reply and do hope your safe through this craziness.
@@gibsonedu were filming a pitch trailer for my new show but with all this going on I've been using my own equipment trying to tie in some older footage so we were filming that today. We were going to do running shots for tracking but we realized walking in would be better for what we were trying to accomplish. It looked great and I learned a lot about shooting with a long lens. I regret not bringing my tripod as I did it all on a handheld.
In this video, I was sitting in front of a window (but not with direct sunlight coming through it). Focal length on this lens was my 10mm-18mm and I think it was wide at 10mm for this video.
By the Lord, Thom Gibson, thank you. Here I was turning on two light bulbs *plus* the light coming through my window, 55 mm (because it's the longest my lens gets) and it was all looking like garbage.
How do I get 12fps on a DSLR, instead of rendering on lower frame rate on post production. Does a camera have 12 and 16 or manually adjustable frame rates?
You're limited to 24, 30, and 60fps on the video mode with this DSLR. There is a software called Magic Lantern which does give you move control over stuff like that. Here's a video on it - ua-cam.com/video/B5mmkr2Kkok/v-deo.html
@@gibsonedu Thank you! I was going to buy Cannon 600D and in another video, someone gave a lousy answer, saying it's Magic, but that was a stupid hint I did't get. Thank for the right answer : D
A Canon 10-18mm. Super wide angle which is nice. Good lens for vlogging or talking videos like this. You can find a link to it in the description of this video.
I am struggling with the focus setting on my camera. I film alone so I have no one to use as a focus dummy. I have tried with objects but then as I move I will lose focus, and never get it quite right... Any recommendations?
It's tough to keep focus with a T3i. I generally sit close enough that I can adjust the focus from the spot I'm sitting in and try not to move too much forward or backward.
When I switched a lower ISO I noticed a better quality it was looking grainy before, but my image was also really dark and I was filming inside. What do I do?
Lower the aperture as much as you can as well. In the end, the best way to brighten up a shot is get more light in a room. Try filming in front of open windows or turn on lights in the house.
This cam is a little unique and not the easiest to stream with. There is software to make it work a Mac if you've got the USB cable. Just UA-cam 'livestream with a canon t3i.' Not sure if it'll work with a switcher though where you have this one and another camcorder.
I also own the canon t3i it's a great little camera and produces stunning imagery. People saying that it's not good enough to start your creating youtube work are very wrong! I am a film school student videographer and am constantly challenging myself to produce cinematic videos with the Canon T3i. Here is a video I have shot lately. More can be found on my channel. Also if you have any problems or questions on how to use the camera I will try to answer to the best of my ability. Cheers! @cb24
it seams like this camera has a focus problem or user not being able to see that it is out of focus while shooting. 99% of the footage I see from this camera in UA-cam is blurred and low quality in HD. Is there a link for any clean video of this camera in UA-cam? I am thinking about getting one, but the low quality in HD and blurred video is a huge no so far. Used iPhone for the same price delivers 100% better video quality in HD. Thanks!
It does not have auto-focus while filming live which may have something to do with it. It's not the sharpest camera but with getting things in-focus beforehand, you can still get some good footage with this.

@@Vancouver.BC.1 Sure. Here's a video on how to do it on a T5i which is going to be the same process as the T3i - ua-cam.com/video/AwOCGSpIZr8/v-deo.html
Appreciate this very much !!!
Hey glad it was of help!
already Subs for both channel.
Your reply is going to be soooo helpful i am so confused
Thank you !
@@gibsonedu cause i am taking photography courses in the university and my finals are soon.. people were lending me there cameras to do the projects back then but now it's essential to buy one. So please take a little bit of your time and reply to this helpless confused lost 17 years old girl😭😂❤
@@zeinabalkayed223 I'd for sure go with the 200D, also known as the SL2. I made a video on it on my other UA-cam channel - ua-cam.com/video/kL_srusE-0U/v-deo.html
Thank you simply explained 👏
Glad it was helpful!
Googled for a video on this and you came up! I was excited cause I "know" you- hah!
Haha, back before my channel had any focus at all! Fun fact: this is the 2nd most watched video on my channel.
More expensive cameras can raise the ISO a lot higher without getting grainy.
i don't have 60fps on my canon 600d!!!.. can someone tell me why?
1280x720
Khairel Farish that resolution only gives me 50fps. does the lens matter here?
50fps is PAL, 60fps is NTSC. Changing the camera configuration to NTSC rather than PAL will probably do it.
Khairel Farish ahhhh.. that did it. thanks buddy. 😊
welcome mate!
@@gibsonedu Thank you!
thanks man great video
Hey glad it could help Brandon :)
Thank you for this!
Happy filming 😃
Great video! Do you do any shooting of life theatrical events? I have a Canon T3 and I'm having a heck of a time getting the lighting right so I don't end up with hot spots on faces when people are singing a solo or something on stage. Any tips would be appreciated!
I don't do theatrical events but with spotlight on someone, you'll have to just lower your ISO and maybe even raise your aperture. The rest of the stage will likely be too dark to see but at least the soloist won't be washed out.
Thank's man, very helpfull !
Happy filming :)
Can u pleas do a video on the cannon 2ti on how to get a cinematic look pleas

Great Video but i have a question regarding the audio are you using an external mic?? if so what brand.
Hey there IE Garage. I am using an external mic. A Rode VideoMic Pro. I have a video on the settings I use here - ua-cam.com/video/4guJNBQpmdQ/v-deo.html
Thom Gibson thanks for that. i like the vmpr video.
Mine has no shutter speed or anything over 1280/30 and its the same camera and I don't see any other features like yours. What's wrog with my camera.
Odd. Go to 5:12 of the following video to make sure your shutter setting are at manual - ua-cam.com/video/NvDi-xvvX2c/v-deo.html

You filming any running right now? I’ve been running a lot more since all this has started and considered filming myself to see my form.
Way to improvise and make use of the time to keep working on the project. Happy filming 😃
SUPER helpful
Right on :) Happy filming!
Would you say what light sources were you using for this video? That's what I'm in most need of. Also, what focal length?

Glad to hear it Jake!

What lens did you use for this video? Or in general when working with a T3i?
A Canon 10-18mm. Super wide angle which is nice. Good lens for vlogging or talking videos like this. You can find a link to it in the description of this video.
@@gibsonedu Would you also recommend it for the cinematic look? Or is there something else?
I am struggling with the focus setting on my camera. I film alone so I have no one to use as a focus dummy. I have tried with objects but then as I move I will lose focus, and never get it quite right... Any recommendations?
It's tough to keep focus with a T3i. I generally sit close enough that I can adjust the focus from the spot I'm sitting in and try not to move too much forward or backward.
@@gibsonedu thank you tom!!
You can try using a remote with it. I got a cheap one on amazon and it helps with always having to get up and press the record button.
When I switched a lower ISO I noticed a better quality it was looking grainy before, but my image was also really dark and I was filming inside. What do I do?
Lower the aperture as much as you can as well. In the end, the best way to brighten up a shot is get more light in a room. Try filming in front of open windows or turn on lights in the house.
any tips i am gonna use this cam to stream with a switcher and a hd cam corder
This cam is a little unique and not the easiest to stream with. There is software to make it work a Mac if you've got the USB cable. Just UA-cam 'livestream with a canon t3i.' Not sure if it'll work with a switcher though where you have this one and another camcorder.
@@gibsonedu the text stays even on record
I also own the canon t3i it's a great little camera and produces stunning imagery. People saying that it's not good enough to start your creating youtube work are very wrong! I am a film school student videographer and am constantly challenging myself to produce cinematic videos with the Canon T3i. Here is a video I have shot lately. More can be found on my channel. Also if you have any problems or questions on how to use the camera I will try to answer to the best of my ability. Cheers!

Nice work on your channel Kurt :)
@@gibsonedu Thanks man please don't forget to subscribe if you enjoy my content! All The Best! (:
it seams like this camera has a focus problem or user not being able to see that it is out of focus while shooting.
@ThomGibson does anyone know if I can use self timer on the camera (t3i) for video and not just pictures without buying the rc6?
Possibly using a tool called Magic Lantern that’s free. Google ‘Magic Lantern T3i’ and see what comes up
@@gibsonedu thank you, great video!

What mode is this nobody ever shows the mode
loved your video , but im confused , in my canon 600d i dont have 60 fps, i have 50 .
how come ?! .... its 25 fps / 24 fps / 50 fps / and not sure whats the last one .
Hm, I'm not sure why it would say 50? But if you record in 50 and then have a timeline that is 24fps, slow it down to 48% to get smooth slow motion.
@@gibsonedu thank you so much , i will do that .
@@gibsonedu i just found out that its set on PAL instead of ntsc i think thats the problem , some youtuber said that , i will check my camera settings
@@thenarrowdoor7 That makes sense. PAL is generally for European media and NTSC is more North American so they have different preferred frame rates.
@@gibsonedu so i better change it ? for 60 fps everywhere i go ? should i keep it on the NTSC ?
so you don't double ur shutterspeed when u film at 60fps for the slow motion ?
You do! Your shutter speed will be 125.
Thom Gibson thanks bro, you've taught me a lot. I can get that grainy look out of my videos now by lowering the ISO - keep it below 1,000
