    The internet can feel so saturated with relative newcomers, untested advice, and extreme hobbyists who emphasize perfection and expensive setups; these kinds of spotlights on people who have decades of experience (and sometimes whose livelihood depends on fishkeeping) are so refreshing.

      Thank you. We obviously make income from UA-cam but we never know which videos will produce the income. These types of videos are very costly to make with plane tickets, hotel, rental cars etc. However I think it is an important part of what we do. Making sure we search the earth to learn what’s out there. I genuinely try to reinvest the profits from the business back into the programming here. It’s nice when it pays off, also hurts when it doesn’t. However, it’s always a fun time for me at these places for me personally.

    I’m having the worst month of my life. My fathers cancer came back and it’s in his brain, I got fired from my job of 8 years for no reason. My house almost went into sheriffs sale bc I’m renting to own from a family member and he was spending my propert tax bill money every year for the past 4 years and I had to come up with 2 months worth of my income just to save it and that was only half of the bill. My 10 year old dog has cancer and was treated 6 months ago but he is down to his last month or 2 of life. I have not been able to think about anything positive for a long time. Life goes on for some and for others it’s time to complete the circle of life and this video helped me to accept that, and appreciate what and who I do have in my life. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. I appreciate this video more than you know. It brought me out of a dark place even if it is just for today it was worth it. Thank you and God Bless!

    My first tub last year, I did something similar. Just snow/rain water, leaves, sticks etc. from the winter filled it. I added Water Sprite, two pair of Swordtails, two pair of Platies. I got hundreds of each fish type fish out in a few months. No aeration, no filter (except the plants) and no water added other than when it rained. The tub would fill and often overflow. Starting the same tannin water filled tub, this weekend. Great vid Cory. Thanks.

    • @CaylorsReptilesAquatics
      @CaylorsReptilesAquatics 5 років тому +2

      Yes and no @@joshuawick3187 To my knowledge, I have not had them interbreed. That being said, I keep both together in numbers, so the 'need' to cross over isn't there. I know Guppies and Mollies (which I also have in the tank) can be an issue, and produce sterile hybrids. All the fish I added today have grown out in a ten gallon tank since last October, when their outside tub came down. Tons of fry on the way, so eager to move some along and begin a color and fin formation breeding project in one Swordtail. Thanks for the question and for watching!

    Amazing to see that ecosystem thriving. I've been able to keep fish for years in what I call a "mini-ecosystem" using lower stocking and algae to maintain water quality. Recently I've started to explore live plants so I can add more stock and reduce the algae, though I still love the look of an algae covered tank. People are always amazed at my tanks and how long I have them up and running.
    As any dedicated hobbyist knows the average newbie will get a tank, kill a bunch of fish and give up. Admittedly I did the same years ago, long before the wealth of info was available on the internet. Once you really focus and learn how the ecosystem works you can really step up your game, even with algae alone, as I have done for many years.
    With most fish once you get your tank fully cycled, and I mean fully matured not an early cycle, less is truly more. If you have plenty of plants to manage water quality the only issue you really face is over stocking your tank. I do as few water changes as I can get away with. If I over stock I will have to change water for quality, but once you get your bio-load stable it's pretty much topping off. I feel that is truly the best way to keep fish. A spotlessly clean tank is not easily kept healthy.
    I guess I find it all interesting because I'm a fish nerd. I believe I'm in good company here. hahaha :)

    So cool! I’m excited to hear he’s working on building up his live bearers, he has some variatus that I’ve been wanting for along time now but haven’t been available since the last hurricane. Great work Cory and Jimmy!

    This is one of the coolest videos I’ve seen in a long time! I got into the hobby because I’m a wastewater treatment plant operator. The different systems of water treatment fascinate me. I was excited when he said he tried out a RBC. I would love to see a schematic of this system and how it all connects. Thanks for the awesome video Corey!

    Also I love how his dogs follow him around, peaking curiously in the tanks and gobbling up unattended fish food😂 And stopping for a quick drink right out of the tanks to wash it down.
    I wish we could have gotten a good look at those blue OB peacocks!

    I liked the guy right away when you pointed out the snake. He knew what it was. You said questionably something about the snake not eating fish as it would seem unwelcome to have a fish eating snake on a fish farm. He nonchalantly said Oh yeah they are great little fishers without any anger. It is a natural animal doing natural animal things and hes fine to share. Didnt want to harm the snake or get rid of him even fed one injured suffering fish
