In another tense, nail-biting episode, I cruise further east along the Trent & Mersey canal on my narrowboat, through Burton-on-Trent and up to Willington. This involves the lockside purchase of some carrots.

Theme music: "Vespers" by Topher Mohr and Alex Alena, from the UA-cam music library
With your narration, you, Sir, are the David Attenborough of the English canal system. You even make the engineering of the drainage systems sound fascinating.
Thank you
I swear, sometimes the titles to your videos are the real highlights. Starting off with a giggle is wonderful.
After being told all the bad things occurring everywhere it is great to just relax and watch David's boat float through the beautiful English countryside as he calmly explains what is happening.
It is the most horrible of seasons here in The States, the summer of Election Season. It is hard to express how soothing this video is upon my soul. One of your best. Sorry I have been so lax in following your adventures lately. I will correct that by binge watching.
Glad you enjoy them
I am in agreement with you Fred ....over your northern border but sending you good vibes all the way....bless you all !
Well done on proving the world still has some good willed and honest people in it. Very beautiful scenery to boot, too. Thanks for shining and sharing your lil bit of light with us.
Great to see a little bit of WW2 history as you started the last part to Willington on the left.
You taught me a new word: twitchy. I understand that feeling! I have never found the perfect word for when someone comes up behind my car and just s i t s there without passing, though I am 100% sure they want to. That’s when I feel twitchy! PS I am a Scandinavian who have lived in ‘Merica for eons, and I still pick up new words. Love your videos! Your commentaries are so quiet and pleasant with just a touch of British humor. Keep it up!
Found your channel randomly a few weeks ago as a suggestion and after the first video i was hooked, have been binging the vlogs ever since.. I never had an interest for boating prior but there is something about you and your videos that makes it great to watch.. What ever you are doing, keep it up, its really good stuff!
Welcome aboard!
David, I cannot wait to purchase several copies of your cookbook, '101 Ways to Make a Cheese Sandwich'. It will be great to read how you describe the different types of cheese and breads and all the different condiments and vegetables that could be added. Please keep me advised of the publication date and how to order. Keep up the great vlogs, I hunger for more.
What's the name of this pungent publication ... would it be "Another Cheesy Cookbook" vol1
I rather suspect that there are no "different types of cheese and breads" - David strikes me as a strict conventionalist when it comes to cheese sandwiches. White sliced and medium mature cheddar - the only way. Anything else is an abomination.
Farms to the left of me, joggers to the right, here I am, stuck in the middle with ewes.
That is a nice setting where the bed & breakfast and bridge and working boat are at that lock.
hmm, "put me through with no sign of any ado" might be a useful phrase to remember.
Guess it could also be base of a useful exclamation, "Through with no ado!"
I don't know why but I always feel calm after watching these.
Title missing pun. It's like you don't carrot all anymore.
Indeed it is a turnip for the books...
It seems everyone was looking forward for another vlog from you cruising the cut. Including myself. So many likes in less than 45 minutes. Looking forward for another vlog soon.
It's a great day when "CruisingTheCut" new video shows up. Thanks David for the good video. Wish there was more of them. When you binge watch all the previous episodes and your whole Vandemonium channel, its hard to wait a while between new ones... 👍👍🍺🍺
I've watched all your previous videos, and have since started randomly re-watching them, as they come up in my YT feed. I possibly appreciate them more this time around.
On Amazon Prime there's a comment from one of the viewers about you talking too much. Well, that's exactly what I am enjoying the most - the talking! Thanks! And I am binge watching now the vlog from the very start! :)
I agree 100% !
I make sure I only read the 5* reviews of myself on Amazon ;-)
Your VLOGs always make me feel happy when I'm feeling down. Thank you for doing what you do so we can live it vicariously.
very restful with the sound of the water - Thanks for another great cruise!
The title suggests sarcasm but this actually is very exciting, love honesty boxes and the like it puts faith in humanity back into my heart
Even putting aside the crazy covid situation, the world's gone mad, I hate it, but you buying carrots whilst cruising ? No that's normal, calming and worth watching, you should go on to make stone soup 👍🏼👌🏼
Those carrots will help keep your eyes sharp for those narrow entrances to the locks and going under the bridges 😏
11:39 love that 'chuff chuff' of a vintage engine.
Honesty boxes...I lived in Buckden and the milkman was across the street. He maintained a refrigerator from which I could get ANY dairy product on the honor system!!
A cheese sandwich and tea for lunch. While watching cruising the cut what a lunch.
You have one of the best UA-cam channels. I’m watching everything a 2nd time now and it’s just as entertaining. Thanks, your work is appreciated.
Thanks 👍
Thank you for a break from living in the USA. Covid, fires, hurricanes , riots and some very bad Politicians. Your video gives me hope.
Another fantastic video, thank you, Burton's canals must have been so busy with all the breweries to serve.
I always get such a happy smile on my face when a notification pops up for one of your videos. Your content is top notch. Keep it up
I recently came across your you tube channel and absolutely love it. I am from Pennsylvania in the USA, so I don't think we have anything quite like your canals. Love the narrowboats and the beautiful countryside. Would love to come to England some day and tour the canals, but that will probably never happen. We do have the Erie Canal in New York State that runs from Hudson Bay to Lake Erie that was built in the early 1800's to open up the west. I may have to venture up that way next year to see if I can find a place that offers tours of part of the canal. I have been on part of the canal near Buffalo, and we went through two or three locks. That was very interesting. You have a gift of making your vlogs interesting and informative. I love the beautiful scenery, the countryside, the animals (yes, even the swans) and especially enjoy your sense of humor. I find myself tensing up as you are going through an especially narrow passageway. There is a man here in the US that does a similar vlog as you do ,only his is in a RV. He travels all over the US and narrates different areas of the country. He helped me get through the shutdown here in the states. If you ever get a chance, his you tube channel is: Traveling Robert. Hope this comment isn't too long. Should have broken it up some. Thanks for all your hard work in filming and editing. Great job!!!!
Make it happen, life is too short.
We have at least one canal in PA next to the Delaware south of Easton
The old brick built canal bridges are just wonderfull, each one is a work of art in itself.
Ihope that they are being preserved.
Sort of, some of them are in a bit of a state, sadly
We loved it when we came across the honesty boxes. It's something you don't see very often here.
Random comment. You were on channel 5 Sunday. Showed you reporting on Dale farm 👍
I was glad the foreshadowed carrot purchase took place early in the video, the tension wasn't going to be sustainable much longer..
I was also on the edge of my chair.....ready to change tubes....
Nice hat! All this time I thought I was the only person in Hawaii that knew about this channel!
What an idyllic lifestyle you've carved out for yourself. I'm jealous but not envious, if that makes sense. Thank you again for sharing your journey.
Hi Dave. Great to see you cruising through newark today. I was the chap giving you a wave just before kings marina. Wreyland was looking lovely in the autumn sunshine. Thanks for chatting back. The wife is gutted that she missed you. Keep up the good work Dave. Thanks again jon and puddin (the little dog I had with me)
Hello! Thanks for shouting out. I loved your dog :-) Hi to the wife.
My current day dream is 57' expedition sailing yacht, surrounded by glaciers, connected to the interwebs through Space X's Starlink, having a cuppa (sorry coffee for me) watching another episode of CruisingTheCut ... thinking 'ah, now that's the life...'
Well done, David. No one does the vlogs like you.👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it
ALL of your VIDEOS make ME really relaxed. THANK you for MAKING all OF the good CONTENT.
Oooo I was recognized!!!
3:40 -- This happens to me routinely on streets: An obstruction partially blocks the road, so I slow in order to let pass a driver travelling towards me. However, he also slows for the same reason, so the two of us end up trying to squeeze past the obstruction.
I always enjoy your videos David.
As always, edge of my seat, cliff hanger excitement! I found the part about the honesty boxes riveting, I couldn't tear myself away- it'll be remembered for some time to come. As for the vlog overall, entertaining as always. Thanks for taking the time!
Its rare to find a clip on youtube that can send you to sleep within 5 mins, well done keep it up.
A 14 minute video titled ‘Carrots’. And I watched it! Not only that I enjoyed it. Either David is a genius or I’m nearly 40, either way I had a good time watching. Thanks.
Or both...?
'SAS Sheep'🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Had me laughing so hard
loving the WW2 pill box @12;43 still protecting the nations vital trade arteries Mr Mainwaring....
A real cliffhanger. Much appreciated! Thanks for the warning, I only bit one nail. Will watch this one again soon.
Thank you for taking us on another adventure I really enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it
Love you to see out and about and yes thing not much longer till its gets a colder love it nigel
Cheers Nigel
Nice way to spend 14 minutes with a coffee & doughnut; watching a most peaceful cruise through wonderful landscapes.
Busy days David. Never mind the noise, just enjoyed the ride. Loved the lock and lock keepers cottage. Amazing.
Thank you for your videos. They are always a joy to watch and a great stress relief from everday life :)
Love your vlogs. Great to chill out to and watch the scenery slowly go by. New hat ?
No, I've worn it before I think.
this was a very picturesque n/b journey . we were able to view again the programme on your coal stove and the gentleman from denmark with his diesel heated sailboat . we like the coal stove because of ambience , and the convenience of the bag and storage . thanks for sharing . cheers.
wow,,lotsa great views,,and variations of countryside and canal. Several neat locks,,MANY different boat schemes to admire! You tell an interesting story of the details also..many thanks!
Many thanks!
Happy Autumnal Equinox!
Stay Well
I've been watching you for so long that I actually expected a comment on the engine at 11:35. No, it's ok. I'll keep watching. 😄
I waited and got nothing to my own surprise also.
A lovely day for cruising. My word what a burst of keen acceleration from ol' reliable when you left the facilities to moor up!!
Thank you for the beautiful scenery and nature sounds. The roof paint on the boat still looks good!
I live in the United States but really enjoy your videos. Thank you so much.
Glad you like them!
I love your vlogs they are always so interesting.
Glad you like them!
David: Although I have had many screen names, I have been a watcher of yours since almost the beginning. The beautiful countryside, the placid canal and your voice over are the main attractions to your channel. Not many canals in Arizona, but I really find the narrow boat life to be compelling and fulfilling. I especially like your "Not-a-Vlog" videos as well. DB
Watching these is such a lovely way to unwind at the end of a day. And now it's G&T time.
I can just imagine the carrot seller;
"That #$@*! He paid 30p for all my carrots when they were supposed to be 30p EACH!"
Boiled carrots with your supper... Getting gourmet on us? I was curious what other vegetables they might have to keep you from getting scurvy.😃😉
Thank you, sir for another trip on your boat. I enjoyed it, as always. Keep up the good work.
Hi David. Thanks for a great vlog. The scenery was lovely and relaxing. Honesty boxes are great and I see alot of these on holiday in the Isles of scilly. Great produce as well 👍😊
If I had a cottage and garden on the canal I'd never leave the back yard...
Those are mighty fine carrots David. Fair brought a lump to my throat. My carrots at the allotment were a disaster this year. Every critter for miles seemed to have a chew at them. I'd love an update on yours, and how they tasted.
What an absolute pleasure to watch as always. The perfect tonic in this strange world we are currently experiencing. Your vlogs remind me of when, as a boy, I used to watch “Out of Town” with Jack Hargreaves. Always interesting, relaxing, beautifully presented and just pure Gold.
What an intriguing adventure. Here in America I guess people are happy with their trailers, buses and recreational vehicles, but this seems far more peaceful and relaxing. I see people using solar energy, too. That's marvelous.
Another very interesting vlog a extremely and professional production we so much envy your lifestyle in such a boaters paradise.. cheers from AU.
Thanks so much!
4 mph. No man can go that speed and live.
What a beautiful nature along the way with full of greenery. Wonderful captures 👏😊
I enjoyed the peaceful cruise and beautiful scenery.
Once again I enjoyed your vlog, good stuff
Glad you enjoyed it
Some people want to meet celebrities and sport stars. Me, I'd rather sit down and converse with this guy over a cup of tea.
*And im an American who doesn't even drink tea. Lol
Don't forget the cheese sandwich.
Couldn't possibly forget that lol
Hello David, so glad you let the video go just a bit longer when passing the boat with the classic engine. Absolute music to the ears! Great video as always. Cheerio!
I hoped some folk would enjoy that :-)
Thank you for another great vlog. Interesting to see the pillbox on the portside at 12:47ish, put there to disrupt any invading forces in WW2 no doubt.
I always pay extra at trust boxes, they always undercharge you.
Good point
The excitement of very nearly crashing head-on with another boat under a bridge had me close to fainting. Please do try to tone down the drama a bit David, this is not one of those thrill-a-minute Jane Austen pictures...
Hi David! Just want you to know how much I look forward to your vlog. I’ve watched all 230ish of them several times over. Thank you so much!
Wow, thank you!
One extra bonus from this one: Loving the extra yank on the already-well-yanked chain of your pals @TheNarrowboatExperience in the title!
Interesting that you thought that... this wasn’t aimed at them but at “YouTubing” generally.
Stay Safe David !
One day I will hopefully have a narrowboat that reads "Victor's New Home". However I usually go by Vic :)
I would call it Victory :)
I went by VIC the other day.
Waved.
Nice vlog..full of natural calmness...
Glad you liked it
Thanks David. Love the reflection of the bridge, bathed in light and looking from a distance like a bright tunnel...3:13.....all the best...Chris 🇨🇦
Must admit I'm enjoying your videos so much, the ending music makes me a little sad :)
Glad you like them!
I understand the need for a label saying 30p but not the need to write "carrots" on it.
Chopped up and boiled....imaginative stuff there David
Spotted SAS sheep. Now I've heard crazy comparisons about the SAS in my time in the Army, but that one seriously takes the cake. Its a best I've heard.
By the way, I'm sharing this on my Face book page. Only because I like it, plus your crazy humor.
Nice carrots.
The best
What a title
I don't know what special lens you use on your special camera but, every time I watch your video, I spend the next few hours shopping for a narrowboat. Nothing looks more ideal than living in a narrowboat and following your.... not footsteps on a narrowboat and rarely see a wake....hmm......nothing looks more ideal than following your lead and live aboard a narrowboat of my own. Porridge for breakfast, painting every morning on top of the boat or at a side hatch, a nice tea in a village near the canal and evenings with a breeze and a nice cocktail before cleaning up and preparing for sleep. Every day my own and bringing the grandkids on board for every school break where we will find a new adventure and discover something special each time. I don't know what gets into me! But I do enjoy every mental vacation. Thanks for that!
I do love the hat and actually remember when you got it. And I actually saw your boat slicing a path through the water. You are a regular adrenaline junkie!
Are you still happy with your choice to toss it all and move onto your boat? Do you still do the occasional freelance gig?
I love the " honesty selling point" and the carrots look sweet and fresh. Thanks for traveling and sharing. God bless.
'Carrots'
You know the dark arts of click-bait I see.
A cynic might suggest that there _was_ an honesty box, but it got nicked. Nice single cylinder noise in the 'boats wot have passed me today' section.
It would be long gone here in the states
Lovely, lovely, lovely, your trips always are, have fun visiting in your green and pleasant land
Thank you so much 😊
9:26 that park with table and mooring alongside. must be very nice for having meals that are not as cramped as on board.
