You’ve done it again, you’ve made me fall in love with a turtle, Yep ! I’m going for a slim turtle , the very same model you have reviewed here today , I also will be putting mine on a genuine original tropic strap , Thank you so very much for this wonderful review 🧭 ✌🏼🧑🏻🦱✌🏼
Great video! I have both, but the slim turtle in white so I could justify them both. People knock the bracelets on these, but I think after a clasp swap they are really darn good!
I had the SPB149 and liked it. I sold it and now I’ve got the SPB317 on the bracelet (bought separately) and love it! Wears so much better for me. Nice in depth review👍🏽
Both beautiful watches. Damn, you're making this hard for me. Thought I had decided on the slim turtle. Like the dimensions and how it might fit on my sub 7 inch wrist. But the dial/bezel/finish of the 143 is so nice! Wish the the 317's dial had a sunburst effect. Great review!
Love my SBDC101 (JDM version of the SPB143. I’m mostly ok with the bracelet, including the imperfect fit of the endlinks, but not crazy about the diver’s extension. Also wish it was about 2mm thinner and perhaps a flat/flatter crystal). Also, I would prefer a better movement (or at least better regulation from the factory). And if I’m getting really picky, I wish the bezel insert wasn’t as wide. I also bought mine from Sakura, perfect alignment and running around -10 seconds/day, even better on wrist. Wouldn’t be as happy if I’d paid $1200 instead of about $820.
Talk about a thorough comparison! As usual, well done! As far as the watches, talk about a tough choice. I'd have to see them in person to make a final choice. I recently sold my SRP777 and would love to step up to a higher end Seiko. These two would definitely be in the running.
Both are really nice looking and thanks for the review. I’m just getting into collecting Seiko watches and there a lot to learn. Everyday I find a new Seiko I want and have to learn about. I like the turtle shape, but I’m still not sure of they will fit my small wrist. I know there are many turtle style and I guess they start with the prospex line. But I think there’s a smaller turtle but o got to learn more about hem before buying one.i just bought a 4th. gen monster and avoided yum bc i thought the were you big for my small wrist. But I saw on and tried on in a store and they were 42mm and didn’t look big. But out f all the Seiko watches that was at this store, the monster looked great and stood out.
Already own an SPB143 which I really enjoy wearing. Contemplating either the new SPB313 (white dial slim turtle) or the SPB185 (MM200 reduced). The SPB313 probably fits my collection better as it’s a white dial diver (which I don’t own) and it’s a better fit for my 6.5” wrists. The SPB185 is awesome though as the case is nicer ands it’s a more iconic case design, but I’m worried it will wear too big. What should I get; SPB313 or SPB185?
@@daveLin104 I love the slim turtle spb313 the most, it’s quintessential the most seiko design of a watch with turtle case and the 4oclock crown. It screams seiko. The spb143 is everyone’s favorite but its looks are very vintage themed everyone was designing in the 50’s and 60’s. Also the spb313 slim turtle is thinner at 12.3mm, my most comfortable diver I wear. The 143 is slightly taller at 13.3 and wears slightly top heavy.
@@mohnnadmercedes8246I love the new 62 mas , but I’m happy with the 143. Plus I just got the uncle straps jubilee and it’s made the 143 100% better with its thin bracelet and reduction of overall weight. If you have a 143 get the uncle straps
Got my 317 incoming. Was thinking of the tropic original also but decided on a waffle style like the original came on instead. I did have the tropic rubber on my sbdc101 though when I owned it.
Hi @average bros I am torn between getting these 2 please 🙏 help me out would be looking at grey spb143 and black dial spb317 so hard to decide, thanks 😊
I built my own 'SPB317' by buying a slim turtle case set and aftermarket dial from Aliexpress. Also used various parts from my parts bin. The result is it looks just like the 'SPB317' , except it has a sunburst texture, a date at 3, a sloped rehaut, an all white seconds hand, the case has polished sides, 19mm lug width, and the printed "DIVERS 200m" in yellow. It's hard to believe what one can build for so cheap and still have 90% of the looks and quality. BUT...the missing 10% is the lume.
I wish reviewers (including yourself) would actually call it out, yes it doesn't have a chapter ring, but I've seen the dials misprinted and misaligned, so we're still in the same situation of having misaligned hands, bezel, bezel pip and minute markers!
Great video, i’m thinking about buying spb317, do you have any experience with aftermarket bracelet that will fit from Uncle Seiko or Strapcode since it only comes on rubber strap?
I’m so torn on these two. I want to pick the 317 due to iconic case shape and slimer profile, BUT I can’t see what warrants the high price on this watch. The 143 I can sort of see where the price is coming from. Seems like the 143 should be $800 and the 317 should be like $540 in comparison. What am I missing here?
Beautiful watches, great review. Seiko could be better with their 6R movements, apart from the 70hrs reserve, it does not offer any other advantages over 4R movements. With that price points, only for the looks and materials(probably). I own SPB147J1 and I regret it.
Hi there, Could you tell me which of these dials are more similar to the SPB151's dial? SPB143 dial looks brushed and has a slighlty greyish tone/reflection. I prefer SPB317's deeper black dial. I couldn't check these in the store so I'm wondering if the SPB151 dial is more similar to the 143 or to the 317. Thanks!
@Michael Sigman I have both a willard and 143 and the willard is bigger but actually wears smaller due to lug to lug.. Willard also wears slimmer than the 143.. But honestly , I need both in my collection..haha
@@daveLin104 I have both a Willard and 143 and there's no preference..I enjoy them equally.. Although as of late, I find myself wearing the Willard more..It just exudes that vintage Seiko vibe..I do not have a 317 yet, but it looks pretty sweet as well
@Trevor Bohns thanks I love the willard just might be too big for my 6 3/4 wrist. Might be better with this 317. The willard seems to have more retro Seiko apeal though than the 317
@@daveLin104 my wrist is roughly the same man..But the Willard's short lugs make it disappear..It does not wear like the size suggests ..That being said it is still more substantial than the 317 ..but not that big of a difference
The one thing I think Seiko misses with these reinterpretations is the larger lume pip on the bezel insert for the 6105 models. I like the slim case 6105 interpretation a lot.
I have a few watches with dates at 4:30 and they generally don't bother me but on the 317 it looks out of place for some reason. Maybe it's because I'm a old school Seiko fan and to my eyes, Seiko divers have day/dates at 3 not 4:30. I really want to love the 317 but the date kills the "Seiko Aesthetics" for me. I would have preferred a date at 3 with the small lume plot.
Best date execution ever from Seiko given the new ISO6425 standard. It’s there if you want it and hardly noticeable if you prefer no-date. Plus they even orientated the date to be read vertically. I’m sorry but Seiko did an awesome job with the date on this watch. People complained about the 3 o’clock lume plot in the minute track, Seiko comes up with a great solution, and now we’re complaining about this perfect date execution. Unbelievable….
@@lucacadianalbert You’re looking at macro shots in reviews and photos. It’s a tiny round date window colour matched to the dial….geezus. What would you like Seiko to do? If the date window is your biggest issue with this watch, you probably need to find a no-date diver from another brand.
@@dustinr16 mate who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? Its not gospel and just my opinion - no need to develop and ulcer over a date window. Strap on and wear whatever makes you happy 🤙🏼
