I've had this watch for 11 years now, very solid daily watch, swaped the leather starp with a two tone 316l jubilee, got plenty of complements..
Got the brown dial (SPB209J1) one myself and love it. Boy, glad I bought it when I did cause they went up in price A LOT.

Love the alpinist! Perfect size and aesthetics for my tastes. I just can’t love giant diving watches. Now to prove I’m an outsider, I just bought a prospex alpinist black series night. 😊
I oddly enough have been wearing a $60 FOSSIL with the exact stainless/green face and gold time marks. Its beat to crap and Ive worn it the last 3 years with no issue treating it like a disposable item. Amongst my nicest and most expensive watches I still wear it the most, because the colors are fantastic together and its actually incredible when the sun hits right. I used to think of it as a POS, but its long become one of my best pals and it sees everything I do. However, this Seiko would look stellar next to all my other ones! That cheap watch brought out something in me for green and its here to stay. This is one sexy chunk of metal no doubt.

A very beautiful watch
Oddly this is a very versatile watch that does a great job dressing up on a leather strap. It also has a ton of character with the green and gold aesthetics. The case design of the Alpinist is full of curves and sits beautifully on the wrist. The prospex logo on the redesigned models ruin the charm and the original is definitely the version to get if you can hunt one down.
I have one that's in storage after a move. Must get it out. Great video.

I love my 017… But it did take a while… Once I put it on a jubilee strap code bracelet with fitted end links it became my favorite… But it is 39 mm and I think it wears like a 40 mm… it’s definitely a marmite watch and you either love it or hate it

I saw he mentioned CNS bands in another comment. Looks like on CNS watch bands website it’s probably “Ribbed strap Racing Green” in 20mm. Not sure, but that might be a starting place to look

Vintage Nato from CNS Bands!
Beautiful watch, but the accuracy of the Seiko mechanical watches really sucks ! + - 15 seconds per day ? What the hell ! we are in the 21st century !
Their 6r movement supposedly compete with swiss movement 2824-2, while also the swiss got better accuracy, for me, for value chinese watch offer better value imo, for budget and mid i avoid seiko, unless you want a specific one then go for it. Nowadays imo most value either diy, microbrand or chinese watches.
To give you a better understanding, the seiko 5 sports, samurai etc which runs on the 4r36 is said by seiko to be around -35/+45 spd
My watch in particular which runs on the same movement is around -2/+2 spd
I would imagine the 6r movement might be much more accurate. Although, you can easily send your watch to get it regulated to a rolex type accuracy!

how does the compass work?
ok this might be a dumb question but i have an alpinist gmt, and overnight i lose like 6 hours of time.. maybe im missing the 3 day reserve concept but is this normal? IE. this morning after taking it off last night was off 3 hours showing 3am instead of 6am.... is this worth reporting to warranty or am i just overthinking this.

love the look, love the style, and was willing to save up for months to get this until I found the Citizen BM8180-03E. A watch 7 times cheaper, better time keeping, and other than the Sapphire crystal case that the Seiko has, I guarantee that it has the potential to outlive it's massively more expensive competitor. Does it look better? Probably, but I'm not willing to pay that much more money for looks alone.

I have this one too, but I wear it only rarely because 39mm is actually too small.
If you have smaller wrists, the shark tooth dial visaully slims the watch down. I have worn one every day for a year now. I love it.

Personally, I am not a fan of this model/color way.
I, however am in love with my Seiko Prospex Alpinist 1959 recreate. (mine is the SPB243 on bracelet) which looks way better in person! It really doesn't look like the pictures online.
Same movement and 70hr power reserve.
The dial is just gorgeous, Everything that the Alpinist has to offer but in a better looking more elegant case.

This model watch is easy to find. But the green strap is separate, and for some reason he isn’t answering anyone who asks about it.

I have the SARB017 Alpinist and I love it. It's in the top 3 of my favorite watches. I had seen them online, but it wasn't until I saw a person wearing one on their wrist that I decided I wanted one for my self. It was a great decision. The watch looks great on a real alligator strap. I agree that you should throw away the strap it comes with, that strap is garbage.
