    I genuinely believe this cartridge has WAY more potential than people give it credit for. Cheap to manufacture, easy to get bullets for, same capacity as 5.56 but with much more power and better terminal ballistics. A 30-30 will drop anything in North America, so will .300 HAM'R.

      @@supertonyjr8903 it's vastly more powerful than 300 blackout even with subsonic loads. It's actually not really that far off from 308 but it's definitely not as powerful as 308.

    If you reload, the .300 HAM'R/7.62x40 WT is a great cartridge: You never have to care what Wilson does because all you need are 5.56x45 cases and .308 bullets. If you don't reload, then buying one is a terrible idea because your best case is a rifle that it expensive to shoot, worst case is a rifle that you can't shoot at all.

The SCAR has its purposes but som of ur comments don’t hold water. I’ve also got several .300 Blackouts. It’s ok. I’m going to get one of these or a 350 Legend upper next.

      Idk if you'd be interested to know (as an author/fmr IC) I actually spoke to several longtime "old salts" from not just the NAVSPECWAR and ARSOF communities, but "other" gov agencies (no, I'm not being cute, I literally meant, for all i know? It was some DEA FAST team guy trying to sound like he was some high speed spook Ground Branch fella...though, I've seen HRT and FAST do some incredible sh.t in my time as an old fart) who HAVE used the 300 HAM'R downrange in a VERY FEW select incidents during OIR/2's latter half over the last several years. Now...Let me be clear, I DID NOT SEE PERFECTLY SOLIDIFIED PROOF, but these were vetted guys I known and trust, and if they show an image of a customized carbine from Wilson's line, that "they had used for hunting, by utlizing the same 125gr Controlled Chaos for "hog hatchet rounds"..lol, i loved that this Unit guy coined this term for Grendel and WC's HAM'R rigs!!...but also used them for extra barrier penetration by having their commands request a single (maybe two) palette of aforementioned ammo for the custom platform that their amorers had put together for them. The fact is they somehow spoke to Bill (again, I wasn't present) and had him put together a line of high-order thumpers for these guys that STILL stayed decently low signature when suppressed in a shorter 14" URG-I or whatever they had used. Apparently, the amount of conversion work is minimal. But next time someone in one of those ridiculous AR-15 debates says the Grendel NOR the HAM'R will (or ever has) been tested in a real world? You can tell them to go to the AMU guys (where supposedly these operators are spending most of their time these days as cadre) and ask if that's right.

    The 300 HAM'R was developed for optimal terminal performance in a standard AR rifle and offers near .308 Winchester effectiveness while exceeding the ballistics of the famous 30-30 rifle the most popular hunting cartridge of all time.
    The 300 HAM'R cartridge has 18% more retained velocity, 40% more energy and a 56% flatter trajectory than the 300 BLACKOUT at 200 yards! The 300 HAM'R has amazing accuracy and low recoil in a lightweight, compact standard AR platform rifle that uses a standard 5.56 Bolt.

    Definitely a very cool rifle, setup and cartridge. But why? If I'm going deer or hog hunting, and want the performance of a 30-30, why not just grab a 336 or Model 94? I mean, neither of those rifles are going to be substantially heavier or less maneuverable in the thick, dense brush. Also, you can literally buy 30-30 ammo at any sporting goods store in the country...
    I'm definitely not ragging on the rifle or cartridge, as I get the idea. It just seems like an answer to a question no one asked. Anyway, thanks for all of the awesome content.

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj Рік тому

      5.56/300 is a lot slimmer ammo than x39, you can fit 3 40 round mags in the same space two 30 round AK mags can fit in a pouch. HAMR has more energy than 5.56, x39, and x35, and is about 2/3 that of 308. It will not do subsonics like blackout, and uses about 10 grains more powder than blackout so blackout is a lot cheaper to handload.
      My personal setup is blackout in a suppressed SBR, and 300 HAMR in an 18" barrel, and 5.56 with ballistic tips for home defense due to the extremely low barrier penetration.

      300HamR has a 125 grain pill moving at 2500ish ft/sec and 1700ish ft lbs at muzzle. 300blk about 1200ft lbs, x39 about 1400ft lbs. It can also move a 150 at around 2200 ft sec and 1780ish ft lbs. Oh and the same 110 as a 300blk at 2600ft sec

    Awsome looking rifle. But price is crazy. I all ready have a custom built 300blk with a heavy barrel and with 125gr it's a tack driver. 300hamer is just hopped up 300blk basically. The new 350 ledgen from Winchester soon will probably kill off blk do to 350 ledgen Carey's more energy then say a 243 with less recoil

    I mean cool and all but if you really want a 30/30, just shoot a 30/30.

      30/30 isn’t an auto loading friendly cartridge, but it is historically a cartridge for carbines and deer hunting. These and many other reasons make this an interesting gun and cartridge. Wilson is just trying to figure out a modern version, for people who need/want it, and to see how it plays out.

      do some more research on the hammer. This ain't your grandpa's 30-30 by any means w/ballistics surpassing the 300 blk out.If you reload there's dies for and brass can be made or bought so it may stick around for awhile.

    Thoughts on the 1/13 twist rate for the 16" barrel hamr? Any loss?

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj Рік тому

      1:13 is intended for 150grn. It will work for the lighter bullets, you just won't get the peak precision. IMO the HAMR is best in a 20" barrel, but the largest wilson offers is a an 18".
