    I have a 1955 feathercraft vagabond 14 ft long v bow with I believe what's called a barrel bottom . It's only rated for a 35 but I said nah we need more so I swapped it out with a 95 model 70 Johnson with power trim and some work done to it pushing closer to 80 my guess . That little guy will fly !!! Can't get up to 3/4 throttle even anything over 50 is very unstable . Still working on her I'm gonna hit 70 in that boat or hope to ! Enjoyed the vid

    61.5 mph on a 15 ft jon boat is absolutely amazing bro nice job! do you think she’d handle the honda bf100 VTEC 4stroke outboard? its definitely the smallest lightest 4 stroke outboard at 100hp since it shares platform with their 75 & 90hp outboards.

    What's the minimum width jon boat you'd recommend for one of these "big power" kind of builds, and what's the max power you'd say is relatively safe? I saw some dudes put a 2 stroke 200 on what I presume was a 1448.

    Wow! And wanted to say I learned from this that u need a set back for too much HP on a boat. I have a brand new Merc 40 on a really light 16ft that was too much. Would lift and torque steer hard left like this does, but even adjusting height 1" above bottom of boat it would bounce with a guy in front.

      Boat width plays a big factor too. Guy on UA-cam put a 225hp merc on one. Motor is too heavy and too powerful to to hold it at high rpm. I’ve seen a few 115-130hp v4 Yamahas on a 15ft run like a scalded dog

    Any trick to getting it to run so flat my boat bounces bad when trim is up where it should be to get good speed... trim tabs weight distribution or different boat?

    • @tcboutdoors6898
      @tcboutdoors6898  2 роки тому +2

      Try a hydrofoil and more set back. Prop set up and motor height is the most important thing. Put all your weight in the back gas battery and all. It sounds like you’d see better performance lowering your motor some but hard to say with out seeing it!

  • @pfpublius
    @pfpublius 8 місяців тому

    Don't get me wrong...i like goin fast too...but i also like being alive. Seeing how fast you can push a tin boat seems like asking for a bad day. One very tiny mistake or unfortunate unavoidable circumstance gets multiplied on an overpowered boat at speed.

    • @tcboutdoors6898
      @tcboutdoors6898  2 роки тому +1

      My boat is 1553. I think a built 40 may would do the job but if you are wanting stay stock I’d go at least 70hp Yamaha should do the trick. 70hp yam on mine would hold 50mph with a light load. There’s another video on my channel of it!

      @@tcboutdoors6898 I’ve seen the video of the Yamaha 70 on your 553 edge diamondback. It’s abother banger, I’ve seen so many 40s and was thinking about modding one (performance reeds, bigger carbs, etc.) but 70s are rare in my area. And normally it’s hard to find one for a good deal, I see them all the time for 5k with a big tiller like yours but i’m just not willing to pay that much for a motor. If I do mod a 40, mostly intake stuff, idk about cylinders yet, I don’t want the thing to blow up haha.
