Hi Simon, Some terrifying holes on this course and lovely looking greens which looked very hard to judge. The name of the course is the Spanish word for "that" which you would pronounce something like "R-Kay-ya" not that it matters. Hope you got Rose when you went back. All's well at home after the storms? All the best!!
Hello David, I couldn't see some of the hazards as I'm so short. But the caddy was great and looked after me despite my best efforts to lose balls. I didn't book Rose for the second round, I'm happy to take whoever is next. All well here. We didin't get above 40mph wind so no fence panels to mend. Rained a ot and courses are closed here now. Most anyway.
She was wonderful and we laughed at how bad I was. Still don't know where a pair of 2's came from. That's golf. For a flat course it was brilliant and the greens were perfect, not a blade out of place. Just a little early season sluggish.
I'm good from under the trees - I get plenty of practice. Hit the ball soft and it wont rise. Hit it hard and it rises very quickly. I loved that course.
It's worth the drive. You might want to add Katathong to the list when that video comes out. Although they don't have a massive greenkeeping budget. Out in the sticks fewer golfers visit.
I take you out onto the beach in the next round. Can't see anything though, India is 1200 miles away! It was a lovely course despite being flat. Great caddy as well.
It looks a lovely course, despite the greens being so slow! And two 2's is not to be sneezed at either!!!! Well done! What a delightful caddy Rose was too!!! So, a good day, despite the golf (but I'm sure that you'll play better on round 2!!!). As for holes in 1, I've had 2, both in competition!!! The first was after playing the game 48 years, and the second 4 years later! So, once you've served your apprentiship for another decade, then the golfing gods might take pity on you!!! Mind you, I've seen plenty of other people make them - 7 in allq - while I've been playing with them!!! So I'll enjoy watching your first sometime!!!!
Course was great. Some of the hazards I couldn't see the edge of but Rose knew where they were. Greens were perfect but slower than the previous day and I couldn't adjust. Nice 8 on the 1st, I could of made par if I didn't use anything bigger than a 6 iron! 2 wrong lasers, could of been 5 shots better. A lovely day out. Great reception as soon as you get out of the taxi, couldn't be better. I don't think I'll ever get a hole in one, I've had roughly 14,000 chances and not managed one yet. Despeite odds of 1 in 12,500. It's luck not skill.
It's fantastic Michael, wish I was there now instead of freezing. I played Laguna the day before and couldn't adjust to the speed of the greens. That first chip made me laugh. It must be dry by now, you will get a fair bit of roll. I went out to the beach in my second round. Hard to think there is no land until you hit India 1200 miles away.
These greens must be very grainy. I don't think you putted poorly, you just didn't get many close putts for birdie. When you did get close, you holed it or came extremely close.
I played Laguna the day before and they were a good 2 feet slower than Laguna. A bit like playing Siam Old Course then going to Eastern Star the day after. Might be the time of year and all the rain? Rose was great and I was rubbish. But they looked immaculate and fast. Not a blade of grass out of place. I don't care I was twice my handicap I loved it. You get a card there to pay for all your drinks, food, pro shop and then pay up at the end. I still tipped the drink stop staff. It was worth the drive off the island. I think the sports day it's only 2000.
It took me 52 years of playing golf to get my hole in one! I thought it was never gonna happen and it was something i never thought about much and then out of nowhere.... boom! 215 yarder as well so not an easy hole. It was a society day so it cost me £68 at the bar but i was beaming from ear to ear for days!!!! Side note, ive got a mate who is not particularly a good golfer and he's had 4 holes in one and a few years back a junior member at my club aged 8yrs old got one. There's no rhyme nor reason to golf is there? Great vid buddy I'm really enjoying your Thailand adventures!
Hi Max, I don't think my Dad ever got one either. Must be in the blood! Seniors and Ladies get plenty of holes in one. I was told it's because they use a long club and land on the front and the ball rolls up. I wont get them if I'm hitting a low club and spinning it. That's life!
Isn't golf bizarre.... A family friend and his girlfriend took up golf when the retired, bought some clubs, had a few lessons and got out on all the local par 3 and 9 hole courses to sharpen their new found skills, within a month Maria hit a slam dunk hole in one, two weeks later Malcolm teed off on the 1st of "my" local par 3, hit the green, rolled up and straight in the hole.!! The cheek of it.!! I've been playing golf for half of my life and never had a hole in one, dispite being within an inch of the cup on a few occasions. 💭Golf eh.
A happy new year to you Simon. This looked a really nice course and I thought you played well. Not sure I would like the bunker shots especially if the got close to those sleepers. Rose sounded like a really nice caddie. It’s sad that some pathetic golfers take their crap performance out on the caddies. Looking forward to the next video Simon. All the very best 👍🏻🏌🏻♂️⛳️
Happy New Year Paul, it's nearly Feb! Where does the time go? It was very nice, hardly a blade of grass out of place except the muddy bit round some of the water hazards. You treat it as gur and drop a bit wider. Rose was great, I think I laughed all the way round. If you say 1 in a 100 caddies are poor then you have to add 1 in a 100 players are poor. Measly tips to someone who earns so little or shouting at them for missing a putt. I've sadly seen someone who reduced a caddy to tears. He was sorted out by a couple of Australians in our 4 ball who reminded him to be human. If a caddy gives me a line of 2 holes right on a 20 foot putt and it misses left because it should of been 3 holes then I'm 'Oh it turned a bit more or a bit less' or I'll be bloody honest and say I hit it out there. I guess if you want a PGA Tour caddy you had better pay PGA Tour money. Some people forget that.
Well that is very much how long is a piece of string question. I did everything through Golf Asian so I had the full package price from Hotel, golf and all transfers. I like it that way so I don't have to worry about anything. The other choice is book your own hotel, book your own taxi from the airport. Then book your own tee times using a service like Golf Savers or simply call the golf course and ask when their 'sports day' is. That is when it's cheaper. Then use the grab app to get yourself a taxi cheap. Then on the courses that permit walking walk. In short there are mnay different prices, it just depends on how brave you are to take control of your own holiday in a country that does speak some english but many speak none at all. Golf desks speak english, hotels do but not every person you bump into will. Plus the dual pricing. A local can play Aquella for 2380 but you would pay 3800 that includes caddy and cart. Then you have to get there from Patong. 1000 each way at a bet. The price you pay is not fixed in stone. Hope that helps.
Aquella looks different to most courses you play in Thailand. Almost a European parkland feel to it? It looked stunning. Interesting to see the effort and expense put into the bridges, something you see in America more than the UK in my experience. Will be good to see you play this again.
It's certainly flat and you don't see much outside the golf course. No views of mountains. Which meant I couldn't see some of the hazards. But it was lovely. The greens were great and looked so much faster than they were. I couldn't adjust, nothing wrong with the greens. The cart paths and bridges are superb and then you have the drinks kiosks round the course. Clubhouse was beyong superb as were the locker rooms and showers. A must have out there. Food was fantastic and very affordable. The staff were great. Couldn't ask for more and it was relatively cheap too.
It certainly is. Water on 17 holes I think so you have to play a bit of chess rather than booming it everywhere. If you get there in Jan or Feb the ball will roll out more so should play shorter. Plenty of chances for birdie to wipe out a bogey or two. Clubhouse is fantastic and from the moment you get out of the taxi the reception from the staff is wonderful. On the par 3 by the beach take a short walk off the back of the green through the trees. Not a lot to see but worth getting sand in your shoes.
@@thehairygolfer That par 3 is stunning had a funny experience on it a couple of years ago. I hit one through the back of the green, the green dips down at the back to my horror 2 heads popped up, it was still being played anyway I apologised to be fair they was great and realised it was a mistake good job ha ha
Looks one of the best courses that you have played out there
It was lovely David. Plus the weather was cool too. Well, relatively cool.
Loving this series Simon
Cheers. It was fun making them. Hell, it was a great holiday.

Thats a very armsy swing for you to get such good control.... impressive really. I would never be able to get my tempo right !
The body doesn't work anymore James. It's all timing or sometimes not timing!
@@thehairygolfer Completely understand ! my body never worked lol.
@@jameslovering9158 7 iron feet together is what I do for timing. Can't beat it.
Lovely looking course, great 5 iron under the trees, keeps you coming back

That looks an incredible course. Reminded me a little of some
British courses. Just with palm trees, sun and sea views. 😂

Course looks more European the video.
I never would of guessed that was Thailand looking at your first (10th) tee.
Glad you're enjoying your round.
Very european except for water on 17 holes sometimes both sides. That and the 66 bunkers. Plus it was warm. Here it would be pissing down!
