Spoiler alert: Carter bough John back to life. He was out to end his life. Joss knew that at the very begin. I think, with her saying, she knew how hard it is to do that transaction. Back to reality, from a war, but in John case, come out of a black hole. Joss was the light out of his black hole. Of all the people he saved, he could not save, the one, he loved again. John never cried until Joss died, he did not know how. He told Iris he did not know how to grieve. Then Joss came back season 4 episode 20, and chewed him out. John cried again. You have to watch it to see what I mean. Watch it very carefully, is she there in his mind, or is she really there?

Gee this was a good show. Season 1-2 then Season 3 episodes 1-9. Season 4 episode 20. Tried watching the rest of the shows but lost interest. Maybe at a later date and time I will watch the rest.
