I also think the quality of the big designer brands have decreased significantly in quality (Especially LV and Chanel) while increasing prices astronomically. I sold a lot of luxury bags. I kept my chanel boy and LV artsy and Eva clutch . Quality was much better with my pieces which are now 10-15 years old. I’m contemplating selling the boy bag. It’s now double the price. I prefer these higher quality mid range bags.

I think that renting designer bags is a brilliant idea. If I really want a bag but am not absolutely certain it will work for me renting it for a month to make sure before I buy sounds like money well spent. Rather like taking a car for a test drive before buying it.

Resell market is also taking advantage of price increases. Just a few hundred dollars less brand new with a lot of wear. A friend who's not so well-versed with pricing got an LV wallet from Fashionphile ,she thought she got a good deal but it was just $75 less than brand new and the wallet is well-worn I guesstimate been 8yr old but model still available at present. If you have the Hermes,Chanels etc, it's easy to look at mid-range to widen your collection and continue the shopping as a hobby but personally, I still have a few high-end that I wanna have in my collection and mid-range wouldn't fix that.

Inflation was high during the 2+ years of major Covid waves (2020-2022). Actually those years of high inflation were when everyone was buying luxury items online! So high inflation = people bought tons of luxury. Crazy. Inflation is now only 2.6% currently in the US, and similar in and other G7 countries. So no, it’s not inflation. lol It’s income inequality. Salaries not increasing fairly enough to keep up with increasing greed-flation prices by corps and extreme housing prices/rents.

Mid range brands I love are Club Monaco and Banana Republic. They use lots of natural materials without the crazy designer markups. But they have better quality and service than Zara and Top Shop tho
I’m ok with buying LESS items at a FAIR price, not an EXCESSIVE price

I find most collections uninspiring and not worth the price at all.
