Good song for practicing picking technique on fast tempos. Triedmy best with the tone. It will be more effective with fresher strings. Transcription went easier thanks to an isoalted bass+drums track. Let me know if you have any question. I'll be anwering. Song has different harmonic approaches coming from a rock/punk context. You can say the main key is A Natural Minor, with some G Major approaches and a chorus that can be different things. If you have some ideas on theory you can let me know.

For the theory approach, analyzing the song in A minor is close, it’s actually the A Dorian mode. The Dorian mode is a regular minor key but with a major sixth degree, in this case making F natural become F#, which ties in perfectly to the G major approaches you talked about, being that G major only has F#, and A Dorian only has F# in terms of sharps or flats, these keys use the same notes

Sometimes I forget what a great song this is. Has an ominous and creepy feel like many Slayer songs, though this is a different genre. You can also hear how Jello Biafra must have really influenced Serj Tankian and others

@@HVSvideos He was a pro session bassist, and the fashion at that time was picked for rock and fingers for soft rock/romantic songs. (Carol Kaye said as much too.) Everyone I knew then (not that I was anyone, just went to a lot of concerts and gigged some) used a pick.

@@dalekofdoom I think it *can* be played with fingers, but I think it would be difficult to play live with the kind of punk feel (hard attack) of that era on the equipment of that era without a pick. Especially in front of a punk audience.

GMH615 there is bass. There’s an isolated bass track. The bass plays in unison to the guitars and is more distorted and is louder in the mix.

How do you go about trying to even out the volume between the D and A strings in the main riff? Every time I play this, the A string is noticeably louder than the moving line on the D string, and I'm wondering if maybe I'm being too heavy handed if there's some other technical aspect I'm missing. It may even be an issue with the setup of my bass.
Focus the picking less on the open string. You can achieve this by slightly pressing more an angle through the fretted notes. Open A almost has to resonate behind the fretted note. Compression will help you too.

i’m new to bass and i was wondering what the 0s under the numbers are
When you see a 0 on a bass tab, you have to play the open string, that means that you have to play it without pressing down on any of the frets.
The 0's are under the other numbers because you have to play the open A string at the same time as you play the 10'th, 9'th 8'th and 7'th frets on the D string.

How do pick with two strings?
strumming, like you'd do with a guitar. The motion is fast enough do both strings are played almost at the same time

quite similiar as you'd do with guitar, but caring that you are not playing unwanted strings, so muting is very important. Besides that, try using a softer strumming motion and practice slowly

It is late 1970's Punk so it's not too out of the norm for back then.
Their drummer was DH peligro, (Darren Henley) he is black. I don't think anyone should care, he didn't.
Fun fact: DH peligro was also in red hot chili peppers.
It's just a term in this song, not so much an insult. The Dead Kennedys weren't racist or part of any political party, they hated hypocrites of any kind, or any real immoral thing that was going on at the time.
