HUNDREDS of BOTTLES DUG in Brick-lined 1850s MANSION PRIVY

  • Could a 8x5x15 footer under an asphalt parking lot behind a sandwich shop mean that BottleNed is in over his Bottle head ?? Will BottleNed's liberal arts degree save him from defeat in the depths of an impossibly-huge mansion privy that requires heavy man tools? Of course not! But there is ONE MAN...with a jumping jack wacker, who can help...and help he does! Everybody - meet Backhoe Brent! A dude who was lucky enough to be born into a family which taught him that learning man-type shit like hunting, engine parts, & building motorized bucket pulley systems is waaay more valuable in real life than being able to write a critical essay on the allegoric significance of the movie They Live (one of BottleNed's assignments back in his college days at UC Santa Cruz). So in this exciting episode, i'll sing it loud (but not proud); "Here he comes to save the day!!!" Fuck college

    What's amazing is these guys got permission to dig in a parking lot and to rip up the asphalt. Real diehard dedicated diggers. But how dare they call stuff from the 1930s crap. I dig in 30s dumps and find a lot of cool things like marbles, candy containers, made in Japan figurines, metal toys, poison and milk bottles, sodas, liquors, et cetera. And I sell a lot and make $1000s. If I ever become picky and highly selective is when I'll quit dump digging and take up golfing. Btw, that is a nice large cent. I collect them and want to buy it. I can honestly say this is the best digging video I've ever seen. Wow what an excellent treasure trove of bottles.

    How about those other liquor dealers? Lilienthal. "Late throws" Out here it's c1878-1915, then a top layer of WWII. Still haven't dug a Warners, or even found a frag. In 1957 the neighbouring High School was built and a lot of the Dump was removed. Diggers were there in the 1980s. I have found about 5 common Hutches, a c1913 ABM and a few smalls. An 1872 Quarter is my oldest coin. An 1898 Nickel appears near uncirculated under the verdigris. Machine shop scrap of the period is evident, and many broken Dietz No. 0 tubular lantern globes. During the sugar harvest the mill ran day and night, as cane needs to be processed w/I 72 hours of cutting.

    The bottle with the L&W on the base is Lorenz and Wightman Glass Co. That one there is probably 1870's. From about 1850 to 1880 they put out some great historical flasks, mineral water bottles and some great meds. I'm from the the Pittsburgh area and although known as the "Steel City" it was also the largest glass blowing center in the US in the 19th century. Pittsburgh glass is a who's who of famous glasshouses and a lot of your most valuable bottles were blown right here. We dug some incredible privies over the years here with some really valuable bottles and early historical flasks in various colors that would blow your minds. Good luck in the future guys.

German, British & Australian slide in too. I dug a black glass beer with an Iron Cross, from Kiel, a German Navy Town, seized from Denmark 1864. Get a sifting screen and find all the seated Dimes! Still waiting on a Warner's here. No shame on gluing back together, my Bayview Brewery, Seattle is the 3d broken so far. You guys killed it here!

    I won't lie... It bugs me that you think 1930s bottles are garbage... I "save" bottles from the 1850's to about 1980 (I enjoy finding the bottles I grew up with and that my Mom used) I'm 60...
    All past bottles and every bottle is a day in the life piece of lost history, finding them is a spiritual experience, I find kids toys and shoes that lived their whole life and are dead now, then I come along and find it where it was left on that day in the life... It's meaningful to me.... I have never sold a bottle, have given away 100s... To be back on the surface of the world for folks to see and think about again...
    Not judging those who do... Just saying... Perhaps consider them all very important... Give them to old folks for their window sills... I found that young folks are very interested in these things, maybe present them with passion, as the kids may think they are more important... Yep, not garbage (send them to me, lol)
    Rock on dudes, I liked, subscribed...
    Just saying....

      Yes but they will never be hand made from a period before mass production and will never be rare because of how many are buried in landfills. But I agree - respect anything old! Interesting dig video! The color of that gothic pickle jar is amazing. I have to ask one question though: At 51:48 those look like ordinary generic pomade, ointment or salve jars, or sometimes held pills. Why jump to the wild conclusion they had anything to do with helping a man have kids? Very weird logic. Sounds like historical revisionism to me. Most of those jars were used for products that had nothing to do with sex. Anyway most people in those days were more "natural" and didn't use "lube" when feeling amorous.

    • @BottleNed
      @BottleNed  2 роки тому +2

      These contained petroleum jelly. The later versions are embossed “Vaseline”. One of the uses of petroleum jelly back in the old days was personal lubricant. BottleNed does not revise history as this channel is focused on giving accurate info! Thanks for the question !

    • @davidwhitten2097
      @davidwhitten2097 2 роки тому +1

      @@BottleNed It's a generic Pomade jar. Many of those types of jars were termed "Pomades" and held hair grease, as well as various brands of petroleum jelly. (look up old glass factory catalogs) Personal lubricants was indeed one use of Vaseline, but certainly not the only one. Vaseline was originally/primarily used as an ointment to soothe cuts and burns and help the healing process by keeping out air and water. Your comment indicating each jar pointed to a man trying to get women pregnant is a bit of an over-reach. No offense intended. I do enjoy your videos.

    • @BottleNed
      @BottleNed  2 роки тому +1

      Fair enough. Examining old trash has some interpretive elements to it, as we don’t know the full story. I know the guy had kids, I know the layer I found the ointment jars in dated to the aprox time kids were born (Before he moved out & it became a bdg house), & ive dug other layers containing many of those jars behind sex workers’ houses and houses that had families w many children - so this is an educated guess based on available info. Of course, since it is a guess, there are other possibilities...but that’s the nature of examining old trash. There is some filling in the blanks to do...
