  • A review of the cheap & versatile Retekess multi-wave band V115 AM / FM / 7 band Shortwave Radio, MP3 player, recorder, that also comes with a built-in microphone, SD card slot & auxiliary input and is complete with both a rechargeable battery & USB lead. This is a really good, full-featured, and very useful receiver that I enjoyed reviewing and one which I would recommend for both its sound quality given the size of the radio & also its competitive price, (£17.99 at the time of recording).
    If you want to check this out on eBay then the following link should prove useful:

      Hi, appreciate the feedback. TBH for the money I paid at the time, it offered an awful lot of features that actually work well, but I understand where you are coming from. I have noticed that the price for these does vary considerably these days, but there are some identical sets with a different manufacturers logo at a more competitive price so it pays to shop around. Thanks for the interesting review of this multi-featured small receiver. I like it a lot, especially for its recording capabilities. I use it to record audio over the line input from other receivers when I catch remarkable DX on SW.
    I really wonder what engineer was dumb enough to decide that audio files of recordings from the line in would be called AUXnnnn.MP3. Good luck trying to open these on Windows... AUX is a reserved name, Windows won't allow it in file names!
    Apart from this stupid bug, it's a nice radio that has decent reception... when hooked to an external antenna because when on its whip antenna, it suffers from much interference on SW from its own internal logic and display in my experience.

      Hi, thanks for your detailed feedback - very interesting. This particular receiver seems to be the benchmark that many UA-camrs defer to when evaluating the performance of other budget friendly sets. A good sound quality, a decent display, a facility for recording and a reasonable build quality makes this a popular set with viewers. Like you, I have tried connecting just a short antenna, (a clip-on wire that’s elevated in my case) with both this and a few other sets and although sometimes you need to adjust its length to prevent overloading, it does make an improvement. Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch.

      Hi Rajesh - thanks for getting in touch and your kind words. To be honest, the Retekess V115 would make a very good world radio if your on a budget. There are much more expensive receivers that have a greater capability but, if you simply connect a good length of insulated wire to your existing radio aerial and just hook the other end to something that is as high as possible, you will receive many more stations from around the world! enjoy 👍

      @@rajeshgaur8948 Hi Rajesh - good to hear from you. With regards the availability of the radio in India, I think it should be. It is certainly available on AliExpress and EBAY (UK) so a bit of search on the internet should show availability. sometimes it is shown under a different brand name, but is still the same radio. The vinegar I used was White Vinegar (not the vinegar that you put on fool lol), which helps clean of oxidize contacts and a little corrosion. If you have rusty battery springs then I would suggest fine emery sand paper to remove the corrosion and restore electrical contact. Good luck searching for your radio!

    interesting small radio with lots of features but its best s mp3 player
    Poor reception as radio due to the high internal noise. YOu need to use extenal antenna for shortwave or specialized antenas for MW or FM

      Hi Zach, thanks for the feedback. Agreed, a long wire antenna clipped to the aerial would help with shortwave reception. It's far from perfect as you correctly point out, but for the low cost, it's a great little radio & MP3 player. Thanks for the tip on the charger!

      There is a "FIX" see here via UA-cam in which some copper shielding tape is wrapped behind the DOT MATRIX LCD. RFI internal noise will be somewhat "muted". Noisy SW reception has always been my cincern from day 1 of receiving my V115! 73's & good luck indeed...

    • @TheWobblyCameraGuy
      @TheWobblyCameraGuy  2 роки тому

      Hi, it's a good question. I have gone through the manual and can't see anything obvious as to how you can access it. For MP3 playback you can select pre-set equalisation settings for rock, jazz, country etc. but I can't seem to access those settings from the menus that are available when in FM mode. If any UA-camr's out there have any knowledge on this, we would be really interested to hear from you. It's a great little radio / MP3 player - thanks for getting in touch.

      Hi, thanks for getting in touch. My first thought is to check the file format of the music on your SD cards. I think that the V115 can only play MP3 format tracks, but its possible that the file format of your music could be different? (possibly .wav ?). Your PC probably has software that can read multiple types file formats so may not have issues with playing the music on your SD cards. An easy way to check is to simply download an mp3 track off the internet, copy it to the SD card and see if the V115 can play it. If you are still struggling, please get in touch via the comments section and I will do my best to help you.

      @@Cuneyt_3D Hi, that's probably why its coming up with an error on the display. Try putting a track onto the card and see if it reads it? Incidentally, you can connect the V115 directly to your laptop. Once connected, press any key on the radio and the software to allow your PC to connect to the radio should automatically load. I have not tried this but you may be able to copy mp3 files directly to the SD card inserted in your V115 from your PC?

      @@plamentodorov788Hi, no problem, I will be interested to see the results myself.
      In regard to your query in terms of sound quality and overall performance between the Retekess V115 & the KK-62, I am going to recommend an alternative and suggest that you take a look at the L-258, (review on my channel). This is similar to the Retekess although does not have a record facility or an LCD graphics style interface. However, it sits rather nicely between the V115 & KK-62 in terms of price and in my opinion is a bit of dark horse. It has a nice large LED display, covers all the wave bands and can play MP3 music. It has a larger passive radiator so the quality of the audio is excellent and combined with a large key pad arrangement, makes for a very easy to use, good quality allrounder for a modest price
