The Silver Shroud is almost literally The Shadow. Down to the scarf and radio play. The intro of the radio play is almost the same as the original The Shadow one. "When evil walks the streets of Boston, one man lurks in the shadows. Shielding the innocent. Judging the guilty. That guardian is... the Silver Shroud!" Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!"
@@Smorgasvord The similarities are so painfully obvious. Whoever made the Silver Shroud was clearly a fan of The Shadow and old radio dramas. The design barely makes any attempt to differentiate from its inspiration.
There is someone you failed to mention when talking about the Silver Shroud, and that is The Shadow. He dresses more like The Shadow than Dick Tracy, and the Shadow had no qualms about killing. He even had a catch phrase to strike fear in the hearts of his enemies.
Silver Shroud definitely has some Dick Tracy but he has WAY more parallels with the Shadow. The Batman parallels mostly come from The Shadow as well since Batmans Creators were "inspired" by him
K.D Inkwell is at least partially inspired by the character The Doctor from Dr. Who. As they both travel through time and K.D's Atomic Quill is visually similar to The Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver which is his iconic gadget.
Gotta say, IMHO, the biggest influence on the Shroud is the Shadow. The Shadow has the trenchcoat, fedora, and red scarf covering his face, sticks to the shadows, uses a tommy gun, has been in radio plays, comics, movies, video games, and films, and a bunch of other similar tells. I'd also say that The Spirit could also have influenced the Shroud as well.
That "Warrior Maid of Mars" reference is probably closer to a John Carter of Mars/Dejah Thoris reference. John Carter is kinda like a scifi adventure story counterpart to Conan, with a red martian princess that does end up being a warrior in her own right in some media
The Fallout 4 radio mod "Old World Radio 2" has a station called Repconn Radio hosted by Captain Cosmos and Jangles (he had become a ghoul and Jangles was mutated by radioactive water to become intelligent and capable of talking.) Their conversations with each other are pretty funny. The station itself plays some old sci-fi radio plays and has clips of old Captain Cosmos shows. (Made up by the mod authors of course, but it's an excellent mod all around.)
One other very small detail about the Silver Shroud. His butler's name is Jarvey. Tony Stark's AI assistant is Jarvis, named after their household Butler from his childhood..
31:04 the Egyptian artifacts angle could be a number of things but Hawkman does stand out as a possible inspiration, especially the Carter Hall version
5:56 the Shadow feels like a good possible inspiration for the shroud. Not only one of the influences who inspired the Batman but also one of the most popular noire series and radio plays. I’ve also seen an analysis comparing the Shadow to early depictions of the G-men stereotype for federal agents in media.
Revenge of the Mansurian is most likely a reference to Sauron of Marvel, a half man half pterodactyl/ dinosaur whom Conan would frequently fight in Marvel comics centered around the Savage Land
I'd like to thank Grognak for giving me the only melee weapon I ever use, and the confusion as to why a real, steel, sharp and combat-ready axe prop was made for the TV show.
The Silver Shroud is more likely to be inspired by the 1930's comic and radio play hero "The Shadow" who was a detective-esque Superhero who wore a black trenchcoat and fedora with a red scarf, often pulled up over his face. Although he weilded a pair of 1911s his methods and tactics are very reminicent of The Shroud. He was also an inspiration for batman.
the mistress of mystery reminds me alot of batman mythos stuff, especially stuff with the al Ghul family. Also the litteral batcave that she has is kinda on the nose there too.
I think that in addition to being an obvious copy of Conan the Barbarian, he also takes inspiration from He Man, as the two are both muscular warriors who use a large weapon. Grognak’s villain being a necromancer named ‘Greylock’ seems like a reference to He-Man’s Skeletor and he-man’s castle Greyskull. As well as the fact that as you said there is a He man comic about Terror-dactyls. In addition while Conan the barbarian is not blonde, He man is, so it seems like Grognak is a combination of Conan and He Man
I really wish they would have made side quests for all of the heros. Grognak was Nate's favorite. Nora getting esoteric powers would be awesome considering the Lovectaftian influence on multiple quests.

You missed the Chrono-Cowboy, mentioned as a new release in FO3. I'll second the notion that The Green Hornet may be part of the inspiration for the Silver Shroud - suit n Fedora, butler, good at close quarters, even had a green gun at a time

Even allowing players to embrace some of the more popular heroes like Shroud or Mistress! I really hope they go further with this in the next installment, maybe a more fleshed out questline where the player gets to actually meet or discover a hero that’s been frozen or displaced and fight alongside their cause. Or uncover what happened to their teammates like the Unstoppables. Basically a short story that actually proves that superheroes did exist to an extent in the past before the bombs dropped. Maybe fighting a battle of the Sino American War in secret. Or stopping a nuke that was secretly launched and destroyed before the Great War.
Also, the terror Doctor one might be an excellent reference where they go back in time, and 1 of the human beings is immune that absorbs power becomes a flying talking terror Doctor with an alter ego. As for this weird whole bunch of alien ones, I think that's reference. We're all the heroes and one of the loose comic books back in the day. Go to find the Hawk after sending them away. In this space and they have wacky little adventures where they run into other alien life forms and stuff.Which kind of helps but also hinders them because then they have to fight some of them but some of them actually help fight the others and it kind of just gets a little convoluted after that
everyone's mentioned The Shadow as inspiration for the Silver Shroud, but another one that people are overlooking is the Green Hornet, another popular hero from that time in that same style

La Fantoma could also be pulling from The Phantom which was another 90's movie which stars Billy Zane. Sounds like the one right before that is taking at least some inspiration from Dr. Who. Last, Mantaman is probably also slightly influenced by Submariner. I'm surprised you didn't mention the connection between Robert Howard, the creator of Conan, and H.P. Lovecraft. Fallout has been influenced heavily by Lovecraft so it's not surprising to get Conan in the mix and probably explains why they travel to such a place since in the Conan comics he faces off against "Lovecraftian" monsters.

Fun fact us Shadow fans know, the Shadow was created by Orson Welles. Welles had a crime story show and he did a character to narrate it he called The Shadow. It was pretty much the Crypt Keeper but for hard boiled detective stories not horror and decades before EC. The Shadow character would read from "The Shadow's magazine," which was pretty much whatever true crime pulp Orson would pick up on his way into work. Pretty soon everyone was pestering the newstand guys for The Shadow's Magazine so Welles sold the character to Street & Smith and the Shadow's adventures were born. Then Gibson convinced them to let him write the novels where king of hack writers our boy Wally would use revolver and automatic both as synonyms for a pistol. Who doesn't know firearms...Walter Gibson. Muah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
How did not one person mention 1:00 that you can also do the mechanis quest as him as well I went thru the comments and not one person says it I know cause I did it

I don’t pay much attention to super heroes but this was fascinating.
Even the mighty RadKing falls victim to the cursed mispronounciation of "Laura" Croft.. 😅
How did not one person mention 1:00 that you can also do the mechanis quest as him as well I went thru the comments and not one person says it I know cause I did it
I can't wait for the Villans. Grelok and Zorbo are two of my favorite Villans. The radioplay Zorbo hits my mood when dealing with coworkers lol.
My irradiated majesty, please if I could ask, would you go over the Fallout table top? They released Winter Of Atom not too long ago.
