Silver Shroud definitely has some Dick Tracy but he has WAY more parallels with the Shadow. The Batman parallels mostly come from The Shadow as well since Batmans Creators were "inspired" by him
K.D Inkwell is at least partially inspired by the character The Doctor from Dr. Who. As they both travel through time and K.D's Atomic Quill is visually similar to The Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver which is his iconic gadget.
Gotta say, IMHO, the biggest influence on the Shroud is the Shadow. The Shadow has the trenchcoat, fedora, and red scarf covering his face, sticks to the shadows, uses a tommy gun, has been in radio plays, comics, movies, video games, and films, and a bunch of other similar tells. I'd also say that The Spirit could also have influenced the Shroud as well.
The Fallout 4 radio mod "Old World Radio 2" has a station called Repconn Radio hosted by Captain Cosmos and Jangles (he had become a ghoul and Jangles was mutated by radioactive water to become intelligent and capable of talking.) Their conversations with each other are pretty funny. The station itself plays some old sci-fi radio plays and has clips of old Captain Cosmos shows. One other very small detail about the Silver Shroud. His butler's name is Jarvey. Tony Stark's AI assistant is Jarvis, named after their household Butler from his childhood..
5:56 the Shadow feels like a good possible inspiration for the shroud. Not only one of the influences who inspired the Batman but also one of the most popular noire series and radio plays. I’ve also seen an analysis comparing the Shadow to early depictions of the G-men stereotype for federal agents in media.
I'd like to thank Grognak for giving me the only melee weapon I ever use, and the confusion as to why a real, steel, sharp and combat-ready axe prop was made for the TV show.
Seeing that cover of Grognank in the Bosom of the Corsair Queen totally seems like an homage to the Simpsons when Marge is fantasizing over a romance novel. Marge: "My, these seas certainly are heaving!" PIrate: "Well, no more than your bountiful bosom, m'lady."
The Silver Shroud is more likely to be inspired by the 1930's comic and radio play hero "The Shadow" who was a detective-esque Superhero who wore a black trenchcoat and fedora with a red scarf, often pulled up over his face. Although he weilded a pair of 1911s his methods and tactics are very reminicent of The Shroud. He was also an inspiration for batman.
I think that in addition to being an obvious copy of Conan the Barbarian, he also takes inspiration from He Man, as the two are both muscular warriors who use a large weapon. Grognak’s villain being a necromancer named ‘Greylock’ seems like a reference to He-Man’s Skeletor and he-man’s castle Greyskull. As well as the fact that as you said there is a He man comic about Terror-dactyls. In addition while Conan the barbarian is not blonde, He man is, so it seems like Grognak is a combination of Conan and He Man
I really wish they would have made side quests for all of the heros. Grognak was Nate's favorite. Nora getting esoteric powers would be awesome considering the Lovectaftian influence on multiple quests.
Revenge of the Mansurian is most likely a reference to Sauron of Marvel, a half man half pterodactyl/ dinosaur whom Conan would frequently fight in Marvel comics centered around the Savage Land
Honestly I wasn’t until I found the Silver Shroud script in Hubris Comics that the Shorud convinced me that there needs to be actual comics about these guys, like the line “Death has come and I am it’s Shroud!” goes so unreasonably hard.
the mistress of mystery reminds me alot of batman mythos stuff, especially stuff with the al Ghul family. Also the litteral batcave that she has is kinda on the nose there too.
The Silver Shrowd is based of The Shadow, who wears a black trench coat, red scarf, black cowboy hat, and a black and red cape. He weilds a pair of 1911s, and a tommy gun. He also has magical powers and has death related catch phrases. He also had agents who were regularl people that would inform the shadow, supply him with resources, and would dress as him to convince his enemies that he isn't his secret identity, LeMont Cranston. He also had a chick interested in him, and predates both Batman and Dick Tracy. His writer was familiar with Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard. Conan's writer, and the two were part of a team.
I mean the fallout protagonists can definitely be classified as superheros with the inhuman feats and accomplishments they pull of like the courier single handily tipping the scale or braking the scale of the ncr and legion conflict and having the opportunity to carry like 30 gold bars
The Silver Shroud also shares parallels with The Shadow and The Phantom. You can also go way back to the first incarnation of Batman where he wore a fedora and had a gun he didn't mind using.
Rather than rib you for missing the connection to The Shadow, since everyone else has too, I'm going to point out that the Mexican version of Fantômas (Fantomas for ctrl+f users trying to see if he's been mentioned) is an obvious parallel for La Fantoma, with both being thieves from Spanish comic books (Yes, I know he was created by the French, but since the Mexican Spanish version of the character differs so much, is actually a comic book character, and could vaguely be described as a "hero" instead of wandering psycho the original doesn't really apply here)

I think Captain Cosmos is based on space ghost and his monkey. He sounds like a mix of the 60s show and coast to coast. Also, the Mistress of Mystory might be based on moon knight.
Oh man the Silver Shroud is my favorite. I always keep the costume & The explosive Tommy gun(Spray & Pray) in my inventory. Plus the Shroud lines in the quests are a bonus for me lol 😂. It’s a shame that the silver Tommy gun doesn’t have a legendary effect.

One thing to note about Captain Cosmos. The Shadow 100%. I’m really surprised you think Dick Tracy is the inspiration for the Silver shroud. I mean it’s in the name- shadows can hide you just like you can be shrouded, obscured by a cloth. TS and SS are both rich. They both have very similar catch phrase. The butler comes from batman who was a copy of the Shadow. I’m just shocked you think Dick Tracy is FO’s analogy for the SS.
3:07 Mechanist is reference to Metalo from original Superman comics from Worlds Finest Comics #6 He had same level of strength and durability as Superman through his metal costume and serum that gave him strength and he could jump high using thrusters in his costume which also allowed him to jump with heavy objects like train wagon. He was literal "The Man of Steel" and first villain who was originally a physical match to Superman (there was also Luthor in Action Comics #47 and Superman #17 but he Wasn't super powerful originally, not to mention he was terrible at combat with Superman). He inspired Iron Man (literally The same original design but without red cape, jet trusters that allow either to jump high, also because Metalo inspired first evil Metallo which was man with mustache who had artificial heart supported by radioactive material) , Mysterio (villain impersonating superhero to rob and tarnish reputation of a hero) , Frank Miller's Batman armor (metal armor with cloth cape) and The Steel (being also literal The Man of Steel, in metal armor with red cape and Superman substitute but a good one) .
One of my favourite playthroughs of Fallout 4 I've ever done was my "Silver Shroud" playthrough using the FudgeMuppet build. I named the character "Robert West" after two Batman actors from the 40s and 60s, Robert Lowery and Adam West.
Hey man i used to keep up with all your video watching them all. The past few months i been feeling more and more down im sorry i missed so many but they do really help me
Judging by the pose of the Black Devil, he might still be inspired by Daredevil, mainly because of the horn like potrusions and because of the devil like theme to the character
I love that later Fallout games have introduced superheroes to the world with memorabilia and other dedicated fans. Even allowing players to embrace some of the more popular heroes like Shroud or Mistress! I really hope they go further with this in the next installment, maybe a more fleshed out questline where the player gets to actually meet or discover a hero that’s been frozen or displaced and fight alongside their cause. Or uncover what happened to their teammates like the Unstoppables. Basically a short story that actually proves that superheroes did exist to an extent in the past before the bombs dropped. Maybe fighting a battle of the Sino American War in secret. Or stopping a nuke that was secretly launched and destroyed before the Great War.
I do believe that the Silver Shroud also has Inspiration from the Question who like Batman is both a Detective and a DC character Evidence: Silver Shroud has face in a way that we actually don't see his full Face shown (Except for extra arts seen online) The Question has been shown to actually NOT have a face
Also, the terror Doctor one might be an excellent reference where they go back in time, and 1 of the human beings is immune that absorbs power becomes a flying talking terror Doctor with an alter ego. As for this weird whole bunch of alien ones, I think that's reference. We're all the heroes and one of the loose comic books back in the day. Go to find the Hawk after sending them away. In this space and they have wacky little adventures where they run into other alien life forms and stuff.Which kind of helps but also hinders them because then they have to fight some of them but some of them actually help fight the others and it kind of just gets a little convoluted after that
Ok, I hope this will get seen because I literally wrote down this by hand so I wouldn't forget. First, Silver Shroud may also, or actually, be a reference to The Shadow. It was a 90's movie featuring Alec Baldwin. Second, Captain Cosmos may also be pulling inspiration from Space Ghost. La Fantoma could also be pulling from The Phantom which was another 90's movie which stars Billy Zane. Sounds like the one right before that is taking at least some inspiration from Dr. Who. Last, Mantaman is probably also slightly influenced by Submariner. I'm surprised you didn't mention the connection between Robert Howard, the creator of Conan, and H.P. Lovecraft. Fallout has been influenced heavily by Lovecraft so it's not surprising to get Conan in the mix and probably explains why they travel to such a place since in the Conan comics he faces off against "Lovecraftian" monsters.
I hate to echo everyone else, but how could you not mention The Shadow? The Shadow, dude. Silver Shroud is The Shadow. Batman was inspired by The Shadow, and The Shadow debuted before Dick Tracy by a year.
5:15 Batman originally didn't have butler , unlike Dr. Occult (from creators of Superman). Alfred only appeared in comics only because of 1943 live action show which also gave Batcave and bat branding into Batman canon. And obviously as other people mentioned The Shadow is another major influence on Silver Shroud
I know who knows some inspiration about the Civil shroud the shadow knows the shadow being a pope hero from the golden age of superheroes actually I think the shadow is more of an inspiration than Batman and the current construct cuz in itself Batman was inspired by parts of the Shadow if I'm remembering that correctly
Something about this comment section tells me that something about the silver shrouds inspiration may have been missed. What on earth that inspiration might be eluuuuuuudes me
The Question was from Charlton Comics, DC just bought them out and yoinked their ip portfolio my dude; he was created by Steve Ditko the Spider-Man and Dr. Strange guy. My fave portrayal of the Question has to be from the Justice League cartoons where he's voiced by Jefferey Combs and done as a conspiracy crank as a jibe to the original Charlton character being an Objectivist Rand whackjob, it's the best.

I certainly get a Phantom Stranger (DC) vibe from the Shroud. Especially considering his metaphysical relationship with his gun. Cool video!
Happy Radsgiving to all who celebrate!
I think K.D. Inkwell might be a reference to Dr Who.
3:07 Mechanist is reference to Metalo from original Superman comics from Worlds Finest Comics #6
He had same level of strength and durability as Superman through his metal costume and serum that gave him strength and he could jump high using thrusters in his costume which also allowed him to jump with heavy objects like train wagon.
Dude this is a cool video perfect timing too needed something to watch today thanks man!
You didnt mention it but KD Inkwell is very obviously inspired by Dr Who and Star Trek (M.I.N.D. seems similar to the borg) and other similar scifi
I forgot about La Fantoma. She’s cool!
This means you've never seen The Shadow movie from the 90's. Please go watch it, and The Phantom. Both are incredibly underrated superhero movies.
26:57 LARA not LAURA. Why do we yanks have such a hard time with that?
Captain Cosmos always reminded me of a re-skin of Space Ghost. Aesthetically speaking.
5:48 To the topic of "influence on Silver Shrouds character and design"...
What about the "Gray Ghost" ?
I do believe that the Silver Shroud also has Inspiration from the Question who like Batman is both a Detective and a DC character
Evidence: Silver Shroud has face in a way that we actually don't see his full Face shown (Except for extra arts seen online)
The Question has been shown to actually NOT have a face
Except in Justice League Unlimited.
The Silver Shroud may also be somewhat inspired by the BTAS created character, The Gray Ghost.
Why does Mantaman have his underpants around his ankles? Seriously, check out that first picture.
No nuka girl?? Lol fantastic video very enjoyable.
My irradiated majesty, please if I could ask, would you go over the Fallout table top? They released Winter Of Atom not too long ago.
Thank you for your content,it is both entertaining, enigmatic, and calming after a long day. Thank you
I maintain that Bethesda could have published and Unstoppables comic.
Captain Cosmos was also inspired by Tremendous Terrance. He is the space faring hero in the Count Duckula cartoon series. Very cool.
Something about this comment section tells me that something about the silver shrouds inspiration may have been missed. What on earth that inspiration might be eluuuuuuudes me
The Inspector is inspired by both Zatanna and The Question. Question is a hero from DC Dark and like Zatanna casts spells and solves mysteries
I think La Fantoma was a skill magazine in New Vegas as well
The Fo3 Grognak cover is based off the Barbarian class picture from Oblivion. The board game reminds me of Hero Quest.
The axe both in game and in the cover is clearly heavily based on Oblivion's Iron Battleaxe too.
