Not that it really matters, but Gwen does practice magic in later seasons of the series. She's also his cousin, not his sister. And the omnitrix (the thing on his wrist) allows him to transform into 10 different alien forms for limited amount of time. In this episode, his future self doesn't have a limiter so just stays an alien for as long as he wants. But as a result, he's lost touch with his real self.
