The second Osprey chick has hatched after 39 days of incubation! Watch the hatchling perk up and turn itself around to receive its first meal alongside its 3-day-old sibling. A visible pip (or break in the egg) was seen overnight, and the chick was first seen working its way out of the egg at 3:45 AM. One egg remains!

During the Fall of 2014, a pair of Great Horned Owls began frequenting an abandoned Bald Eagle nest adjacent to a protected, nutrient-rich salt marsh along the Georgia coast. This nest sat nearly 80′ above one of the six Audubon International Certified golf courses at The Landings, on Skidaway Island, near Savannah, Georgia. Over the course of 2015 and 2016, a pair of owls successfully fledged four owlets from the site, but they did not return to breed in 2017.
Instead, a pair of Ospreys began renovating the nest and committed to breeding at the same site from 2017 to 2019, when the dead tree that held the nest was removed due to being designated as a falling hazard. A new nest site was erected in an adjacent tree in the fall of 2019, and the Ospreys were quick to take up residence at the new site in 2020.
Ospreys are consummate fishing birds, and this pair fishes primarily from the nearby salt marsh, ponds, and waterways. They use their 6-7 foot wingspans to soar above the water, looking for fish, then diving as deep as 3 feet for shallow-swimming prey. Adult Ospreys usually weigh 3-4 pounds, and they can carry prey up to 50 percent of their own weight. Ospreys can live up to 25 years, and they typically lay 1-4 eggs in a clutch.
Most Osprey pairs are monogamous, staying paired across seasons and beginning nesting soon after each returns from a long migration. Both sexes incubate the eggs. The female sits for the majority of the time (including throughout the night) while the male provisions her with fish. After the eggs hatch, the male continues to bring fish to the nest; the female exclusively broods the young and dissects their meals for about a month after hatching. Later on, when the chicks no longer require her protection and their appetite for fish increases, she will leave the nest and go fishing.

So sweet the Mom feeding small pieces, of food, to the babies. Thanks for the nice video.
This is incredible, thank you once again for sharing these.
I was on tenterhooks waiting to see if she fed the smaller chick!
Second chick learned quickly to turn to mom if it wants to be fed.
Superb documentation 👍👍👍👍👍
Great job the babies are so small
Thank you kindly, so gentle to feed the babies.
먹이 주는 어미도 무척 힘들거에요 대단하네요 사랑이 넘칩니다 ❤
Beautiful chik is very hangry
So beautiful this chiks are 🥰🙏
Poor younger chick can't stop bobbing round for longer than a second to grab the food out of Mother's beak.
Very nice video, thank you.
Two babies yay
very clever parents both chick get food evenly
Lovely thank you
Well, I am so glad to see she is feeding the second chick. I sure hope the 3rd one hatches today or better yet, is infertile. There has been too much sadness watching this nest due to the mother not feeding alll 3 and horrible bonking that have both killed other chicks.
Oh goodness! I watched only towards the end last year so I didn't see any this. I saw just the two a few weeks before they fledged.
Birds of a Feather I was so upset about it. I know they let nature take its course, but it was so horrible to watch. If a bird falls out of a nest, they rescue it. Seeing a bird starve to death or be pecked to death, they should intervene IMO.
i actually stopped watching Osprey nests because i couldn’t take any more of the sibling aggression. i don’t know of any other bird of prey chicks who are like this. they do some bonking, but not to the degree that the Osprey chicks do it.
can anyone tell me why Ospreys are like this?
@@msbadkittie That's a good question. I did a search for sibling rivalry and ospreys, and someone said this about raptors in general in a blog: "There are 4 major hypotheses trying to explain sibling aggression and siblicide: The Food-Amount Hypothesis (FAH) - the most generally accepted hypothesis, the Prey-Size Hypothesis, the Brood-Size Hypothesis and the Challenge Hypothesis."
Those are all pretty self-explanatory, but I think I'm going to search about the Challenge Hypothesis.
@@suehsd yes, i’ve looked that up before as well. but it seems like the info provided hasn’t really applied to any of the Osprey nests i’ve watched. the degree to their aggression is so extreme. and they don’t seem to outgrow it like bald eagle chicks do.
would love to know if you find anything on it.
i had to stop watching Lesser Spotted Eagle nests in Europe. was horrified to discover the first born chick will kill the younger chicks. it’s like watching a horror movie. they just keep going after the younger one until it dies. too brutal for me.
Hermosos
Look them love
can baby ospreys' see? They make such a racket! Great - means that they're healthy for now; but wondering why other baby doesn't turn around to get fed by parent? Are their eyes focusing right after birth?
Beautiful
Good to see mom feeding cuties 😍 is father around or taking care of food supplies??
@Bird Lady nice 👌
Feeding time was over when they had no strength to swallow the handouts. Mom knew, stopped feeding, and put them to bed.
Hermosa como cuida sus bebes lindos

かわいい🐣🐥😍
Although this video is a few days old, on the live feed, I have not seen ANY bonking. Maybe 2 males? The nest has been particularly bad as far as bonking chicks and 3rd chicks dying due to starvation. So glad these 2, so far, are not bonking. Please 3rd egg, be nonfertile as you will not survive.
What's bonking?
М-да...... Не просто прокормить птенцов! 🐣🦅
Good Job Mom.👍😉
good😍🥰
Bonitos tiernos inocentes pero zero paciencia
❤❤❤❤
Today is the 19th of April, and the little one will be lucky if it's still alive by the end of the day. The older one is a bully. Too violent for me!
Nice
Enquanto a mãe empazina um de comida o outro morre de fome, que mãe é essa?
Verdade
I was waiting for them to stop begging for food and then she sat on them 😅
Что за птица?

PLEASE feed the other baby 😭😭😭😭

人間で言うところの首がすわってない状態だから餌をもらうのも大変だな~。
3rd chick is doomed
This. Bird do. Good things. For his baby's food. Instead. Of. Human being
The big one is greedy.
