Sometimes it pays to be the smaller one, they are usually tossed out of the nest by the parents. The little chick was lucky the bigger one shielded its presence in the nest.

Pretty shocked the hawk didn't come back. Birds of prey will often return to the nest and make sure they've cleared it out. Also pleasantly surprised the parents did not abandon the nest, which they will sometimes do if a predator is known is known to be aware of it.

Birds make their sounds with their unique respiratory system. Any air moving in or out of the lungs can be used to make chirps. Unfortunately this means the squeals you hear are probably from it still breathing and panicking.
