    I've always found it good luck to have a great dog on the boat! Pretty, and smart ladies are helpful too. But, Oly clearly knows his place and knows when to bark when he hears "fish on!" and the net comes out! Good boy Oly.

    Well thought out set up! I'm in northern CA and can remember the first drift boat I ever saw. Someone from Oregon brought a homemade one down to fish the Eel River. We all didn't think much of them at the time, but when we saw how effective they were, well you know the rest of the story. Tight lines Bad Ash!

    Steelhead & Salmon fishing out of a drift boat is the ultimate in my opinion. I've floated most of the Northwest rivers but never the Quinault. Do you guide on it? The Clearwater is a good one over there that's a gem & not too much pressure the times I've floated it. Been to Buzz's place on the Klickitat years ago & fished that river many times. Good times.

    Great video - timeless in a way. Im new to the drift boat world and ordered a boat which will be delivered in the spring. So I am learning as much as I can in advance of hitting the water. On the topic of anchors - what is your opinion of lead vs composite anchors (such as the torpedo stack)?

    What size oars you running in that clack my daughter just purchase one

  • @lurebenson7722
    @lurebenson7722 Рік тому

    My Lure Benson designed and built by me for sale drift boats - sleds - Dory's I use the pully system on the right side of the drift boat and often use on my other boats and use a double pully for the anchor system giving leverage to pulling up the anchor.
    For me the floor step & drop anchor system here is to slow and by the time you've grunted to get that anchor up the boat has slipped 20 feet down river.
    I also would never leave my oars up out of the water which caused the drift boat to slip & slide from side to side.
    Placing the oars in the water with the blade vertical acts as a rudder keeping the drift boat straight on anchor.
    Another plus of my drift boats is an inverted water Ruder system to assisting the drift boat in tracking strait along with my drift boats have a 2"x1" UHMW chines and the bottom of my boats are armored with 1/4 UHMW skid shoes.
    Summer of 2023 will be a new 14 foot drift boat model that is already started.

    Hi, I’m new to your channel. Why did you choose a glass boat over a metal one?

    • @BadAshOutdoors
      @BadAshOutdoors  4 роки тому

      Hello Jake, and welcome! I chose a glass boat because I felt more confident rowing less weight. I can manage three people, gear, a Labrador, and a bag of fish just fine in lower water or sketchy situations. I felt less confident in my strength with a big metal tank. Hope you enjoy the Quinault fishing video- there you see the boat in aciton :)

    I'm in the Willamette Valley and getting ready summer steelhead. I've been doing mostly soft beads this winter. Should I stick with this pattern, or go to worms or jigs? I know cork and yarnie are used a lot too.

    • @BadAshOutdoors
      @BadAshOutdoors  4 роки тому +3

      I certainly would not rule out jigs and worms. Stick with your pattern, but bring a good variety of tools and lures with you. Size down on your jigs and worms for potentially lower and clearer water. Here's a hot tip for you- since Steelhead are an anadromous rainbow trout- lots of things that are highly tested on trout will work well for steelhead. Pick up some powerbait, and tip your jig with a little ball of powerbait. Scented, and a great color additive! Lots of science that has gone into Powerbait as an attractant for trout- use it to your advantage for steelhead.

      @@BadAshOutdoorsThanks for the scent tip. Also sizing down. Been using 14mil beads. I'll drop them down to 10s. B&R soft beads have been awesome. I've used size 4 Blue Fix spinners. Should I drop that size also? Thank you again Ash
