Jon had a hairy day, and a good story to boot. Twas the effort of good hearted strangers that made this story possible. Let us all have the opportunity to show that we are good hearted strangers.
For a Rogue River guide-looses-his-drift-boat-story this is incredibly tame, and has quite a happy ending, but like he said most of those stories are not ones you could ever tell a camera 😂. The stories I've heard on the decks of those guideshacks in the lower canyon are insane.
now I realize how dangerous that was snow on the ground rescued it rite before I Rapids. Drove home in my under pants didn't have time to take all my clothes off
I'm glad you got your boat back. For myself, I'd get rid of waders and swim with a PFD. I was on the Snake in high water back in '78 went through Lunch counter, 9'-10" waves. The kayak and I got knocked over on the eddy-line and the turbulence pulled me down. The river spit me into the eddy on river-left and my boat meandered down to the bank on river-right. There were a couple guys taking it all in not realizing how hard it would be for me to recover my kayak. As they mindlessly watched frustrated I yelled," Can ya get my fuck'in boat." Seemed like they woke up and saved me from chasing my boat to the "narrows" a few miles down river. I wish I'd had beer to offer them! I don't think it tops your story.
As a seasoned river guide, I assume you do know how to swim, right? So...what happened to swimming out to your boat as soon as you know it has broken free of its anchor? That would have been my very first instinct. But, hey, I wasn't there, so maybe swimming was not an option. Days like that one are great learning devices, and I am sure Guide Hazlett remembers that day every single time he ties up his craft...and I'll bet he tends to the reason he could not swim out to his boat in the first place. Funny story, and you probably made that old man's day.
@@LokeshThakur a river guide should be knowledgeable in swiftwater rescue techniques which include swimming in moving water, its really not hard if you know how to read water. And the Rogue isnt even that rough of a river where he was, no excuse for not going after your own boat.
Moral of the story...... Don't be a googan guide and you won't have these issues... Googan. You had a dude as a client. Your client had a googan as a guide.
So the guy was 80+.... show him some respect! He got your dumbass there, you got your boat back, and a great story that you could have told without the ridicule. Just remember we're all getting there and your closer than some.
John.....I think Mr Hazlett was probably a bit too busy trying to rescue his boat than to take videos. BTW, this is my You Tube Channel, not Johns. Nobody including me, is making any money by telling guide stories here.

Best story I've heard on UA-cam, seriously.
Jon, Only people who own or have owned a boat, feel everything you went through!

Wow what an incredible story lol. Loved it.
It can only happen on the Rogue River. Gives me flashbacks of my experiences.
I hope he gave the old man a beer.
Epic story!

Amazing what people will do for alcohol.
Hate to say it, but that story with the old man is one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time. Glad you got the boat back though.

It is quite hard to swim in a fast moving current. Its also hard to climb onto the boat when you do not have your foot as leverage.
As a guide you should be able to get into your boat and swim in fast moving currents.
climbing on to your boat, yes, swim, yes, swimming in a fast moving current? thats not as easy as u think man, he isn't a navy seal lol.
