  • The oldest explosive known. The recipe of saltpeter, charcoal, and sulfur hasn't changed that much over time. But, the type of charcoal used is important, and making your own from red cedar is covered. The final product is excellent and burns very quickly.

    If you want to speed it up even more, both bamboo and rolls of good quality toilet paper with the cardboard removed have proven to be fastest and clean burning. Great video!

    The charcoal type is very important. Willow is the best charcoal for BP. I would ball mill the BP mix using a gem stone ball mill for 3 days using ceramic non sparking media and the resulting BP is so fast.

    Carbonise sawdust. Saves a lot of pounding to get fine charcoal.

    I hope you didn't hurt yourself. I have to say that I absolutely love when you make your own inventions or find a genius way of completing a task. And I really found the facts about black power fascinating! I didn't know any of that about black powder.
    P.S. Dr. Mr. Fireball said to let him handle the hammers from now on.🤪

    is that your handwriting on the whiteboard? that's SERIOUSLY something you should be proud of. I'd love for you to write out the alphabet in upper and lower case and make a font out of it.

    How does sulfur help to stabilize the mixture?

    • @cranialconstruction2218
      @cranialconstruction2218  28 днів тому

      First, it does stabilize the mix. I have made BP with only potassium nitrate and charcoal. It burns irregularly. Sulfur not only lowers the ignition point, but it ensures that the flame moves through the mix evenly. Insuring the burn rate is fast throughout the mix.

    So what's the video source on running the engine on wood gas?

    • @cranialconstruction2218
      @cranialconstruction2218  25 днів тому +1

      The source is from an early 2000's Discovery Channel bit. They ran a 4 cylinder car engine easily.

    IS CEDAR JUST AS GOOD AS WILLOW?

    • @cranialconstruction2218
      @cranialconstruction2218  28 днів тому

      It is comparable. However, willow may still be slightly better. The benefit of red cedar is its cost, which is cheaper than willow. And, unless you have a specific reason to use willow, red cedar black powder works just as well as a lift charge, or in fireworks.
