I still for the life of me have no idea how sausage kerbs were *ever* thought of as a good idea in the first place, let alone how the use of them hasn't been completely banned yet.
I dont get how they just installed them and never once thought about "oh what if someone hits it at 90°" lol like i know im a fuckin retard but even i would think about that beforehand 🤣 but the fia? Nah lmfao
@@silvy3047 The initial design of that chicane…the one shown in the video…didn’t do much to slow the cars down or encourage overtaking. Even if you got rid of the turtle kerbs and the tire barrier at the exit, there’s not going to be much passing opportunities in that initial configuration. Other than those two issues, it wasn’t a horrible chicane.
@@dkashvideos That would render the chicane completely pointless. You might as well as just have them flying off into Turns 3&4 of the oval at unabated speed. It was as poorly designed as the temporary tire barrier chicane that was used for the American Le Mans Series race there in 2000. A chicane that, according to factory Viper driver David Donahue, changed every time he went through it.

A kerb shouldnt break a drivers back just because they ran over it. Thats unacceptable. Not to mention all the other cars that actually went flying. Thats unacceptable as well. Ban sausage kerbs
We had kerbs, we had curbs, we had kurbs...and they all sucked. :) Great video, that second crash was absolutely horrifying. That guy had some serious hang time!
The crash at 2:16 actually broke that racer’s back, she launched over one sausage, then landed on the next, which fractured a vertebrae, she has recovered and is racing again 3:28 Without the halo that second driver would have been hit by a whole F2 car..
Saw the title, and 4:37 was the one I was waiting for, the one I was going to bring up if it wasn't included. Cannot think of a more visceral example of kerbs doing the opposite of what they're intended to.
3:16 "He's off and into the path of another car!" -- Umm.. no.. he's 'into the path' of the same guy who ran him off the road.... i'd consider that Karma....
Heidfeld's & Sophia's shunts could easily have been fatalities, and Peroni's probably would have been, if in a pre-halo car. I'm no longer concerned about driver injuries, as speed is inherently dangerous, and the safety innovations post 2001 have only allowed them to drive like disrespectful iRacing thugs -- but the people who really need to be safe are the spectators and marshals. If things turned out slightly different those three crashes could have launched into marshals or photographers if they were there, along with 3:33 and 3:00, the latter even having a chance to end up in the seats -- better off putting K-rails or reinforced concrete walls there instead of speedbumps, otherwise you might as well mount ramps on the track if the organizers just wanna see cars fly
3:55 please tell me that blue/yellow driver got fined or suspended for that... he checked his mirrors directly before turning into him so he had to know he was back there, and he 'turned' weeeeeelllll before you'd turn to make that corner....
The FIA keeping sausage curbs proves anything they say about safety is just lip service ans they actually do not care about the safety of the drivers. There seriously needs to be an international ban on their use.
I mean, they don’t have to outright get rid of curbs, just need to get rid of sausage curbs. They are the ones responsible for flinging the cars in the air.

i remeber the 1st video.. Blaming oil when it was just racers who only know how to turn to the left, having to counter steer like normal circuit races do lol
It was oil though, when the kerb broke the front splitter of the first car it also broke the oil line which then meant there was oilf on the ground, that many drivers dont go off like that unless there is oil. If you don't like Nascar and oval racing that's fine but you don't need to hate on it, they are still very quick drivers even on road courses they beat ex-F1 drivers, and sportscar drivers on road courses.
I think the big oversights of the sausage kurbs are that they are solely designed to stop a car from cutting and overlook any and all safety concerns.

Still can't believe the FIA stands by Sausage Kerbs. I guess a car has to get launched into the crowd for them to do something.
safety innovations in racing have always been in reaction to a death, so this tracks.
I saw the first crash in person and I remember the crowd cheering when they removed the broken Kerb.
I already forgot that Jimmie Johnson raced indycar.
Racing is a generous term for what he did in Indycar
5:00 The design of that chicane is boneheaded beyond belief. So glad they redesigned it.
All they needed to do was move the tire barrier back or send the drivers back to driving school, chicane as designed fine

Sausage, kerbs, turtles… whatever you want to call them. I call them the stupidest motorsport invention.
