This is one of my favorite Kathy Mattea songs and it was written by Cheryl Wheeler who in her own right is a wonderful talent and I love to hear her sing it as well. I keep this one on my mp3 player.
Heaps of happy thanks to you for this and the other superb Kathy vids! I don't know just what it is she has that other singers don't, but it is made of magic and stardust and kissed by the sweetest angels of God. Bliss! Thank you! ~W
This song, and Kathy's voice, and the way everyone in the band seems to FEEL it so much...it all just takes my breath, each time I see this. I feel it...few among us couldn't relate to these sentiments. So much that is good is slipping further and further away.
I hear this now, and everytime since the first time...I'm the little kid back in my prairie hometown..it's green, small and I am totally unaware of anything sad or dangerous in the world. A song can be like a magical time machine for the mind....thanks to the writers and perfomers here.
This song is like a lullaby for adults-lol,,Kathy Mattea's voice is such a warm pure pleasure. I think she's either an alto or a contralto- I leave the singing and musical expertise to her! Just superb. The song by Cheryl Wheeler is equally as good. One of my favorites.
This song always takes me back to memories of good times with my mom, she's left to be with the Lord now, missing her, I just today uploaded my attempt to capture this wonderful song, , , picked my guitar pretty well, , , yeah wish I could sing half as well as Kathy or Cheryl.
. . . great to hear Kathy again. We were on the same bill with my band Groundspeed way back in 1989 in Europe . I still have great memories from that time .
on the Album this is from she sings this with the great Suzy Bogguss doing backup vocal. one time i was invited to a fan club lucheon where the SB/KM fanclubs merged and the put on a concert together. they san this song as a duet. it was sooo beautiful. they compliment each other so well as well as complement this song.
One of Kathy Mattea's albums has a version of this song with Suzy Bogguss that is just about musical perfection. Their voices blend in harmony so wonderfully
I can see the place where I came from I can hear those sounds right now I can find the paths I used to run And believe I still know how Then I shake my head, clearing my vision I keep those scenes at bay And I can see the place where I came from Slipping further and further away And I can feel the way I used to feel When the world was small and green And you sang a song of soft appeal And I curled into my dream Then I shake my head, clearing my vision I keep those scenes at bay And I can feel the way I used to feel Slipping further and further away Time keeps moving faster and faster I'm not losing track I'm afraid that something's forgotten So I keep looking back I can hear the songs you used to sing I can swear I won't let go You were strong and you knew everything That was all I had to know Then I shake my head, clearing my vision I keep those scenes at bay And I can hear the songs you used to sing Slipping further and further away
I love this song. I have it by Cheryl Wheeler, but this particular version is arranged so nicely.....does anyone know if this particular version is available anywhere? Thanks!
Every single time I hear this beautiful song 🎵🎶 it takes me right back to my precious ❣️ Grandma's house! 🏡💖🍀

I love this song. Great stuff.
Gifted Talent indeed!
My favorite album from Kathy.. I'd like to see Patiently Waiting show up here.
I can see the place where I came from
I can hear those sounds right now
I can find the paths I used to run
And believe I still know how
Then I shake my head, clearing my vision
I keep those scenes at bay
And I can see the place where I came from
Slipping further and further away
And I can feel the way I used to feel
When the world was small and green
And you sang a song of soft appeal
And I curled into my dream
Then I shake my head, clearing my vision
I keep those scenes at bay
And I can feel the way I used to feel
Slipping further and further away
Time keeps moving faster and faster
I'm not losing track
I'm afraid that something's forgotten
So I keep looking back
I can hear the songs you used to sing
I can swear I won't let go
You were strong and you knew everything
That was all I had to know
Then I shake my head, clearing my vision
I keep those scenes at bay
And I can hear the songs you used to sing
Slipping further and further away
I still love it!

@jcnaps71
I agree
Is this exact version available ANYWHERE???!! I love this one.
If they're are a better duo of contemporary song crafters than Cheryl Wheeler and John McCutcheon, I don't know who they are.
surprised nobody commented, but that looks like paco de lucia facing kathy.
Pretty sure that's the Scottish singer Dougie MacLean.
Yes, it's Dougie. From the "Transatlantic Sessions" series, I think, broadcast on BBC Scotland.
This was filmed in a castle in Scotland. Beautiful place.
Whoops. Im repeating myself!
