Some of our astute followers have noticed me slurring my words. I am not drunk but working with Brad it would be justifiable. I had 6 infected cysts removed from my mouth (noncancerous) and I have residual scar tissue and numbness. I will try to do better. Thanks Bob.

Yet in every Yoga, pilates, stretch classes, etc., we are shown to do these exercises. I seen not to do them on here. However, after over 10 years of doing them, i automatically find myself including them in my routine. I've had chronic back pain, top and bottom, (it horrible) for over 30 yrs now. It's not getting any better.
Family members have stopped asking how my back is now. Apart from my husband and son.
I can be ok one minute and then in complete pain, the next. I really don't think anyone will ever know how bad it gets. Don't really care.
I manage it myself. Someones, i feel as if I've reached my limit.
      I've done and tried everything.
I keep smiling through the pain.
Merry Christmas and healthy, prosperous New Year. 🙏🧘‍♂️💪

I chatted with Dr. McGill a number of years ago. He was a prof at the University of Waterloo for many years, where I currently work. Kin students raved about his knowledge and teaching ability. Very cool Bob and Brad are referencing his findings. Thanks for the vids, I've added many of your stretches to my daily routine.

I just wanted to say thank you to the two of you, when I had sciatic pain for the first few times your videos helped me find a stretch to relieve the pain and last month when I tore my meniscus I watched your videos and I was almost 99% sure I was right and just had my MRI Tuesday that confirmed it. Your tips and advice are highly helpful, keep up the good work.

I always learn so much from your channel as a PTA and Safe Yoga teacher. I am a bit confused as on a Video I watched on Jan 21, 2020, these were stretches you taught for back stretches vs forward folds. I love doing these with my patients that tolerate them and my yoga students. I often say, Bob and Brad reminded me that teaching deep forward folds is not safe for our backs to my students .
?? So are you saying we should just be mindful of these stretches now , not do them at all, or are you referencing just McGills methods. Appreciate the clarification and THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO !! I LOVE your channel!!! Thank you

Damn now I'm really questioning my physio therapists, they recommended me to do all of the stretches that should be avoided, every time I visit them they would ask me to keep my legs straight and bend downwards to touch my toes. I bent down while having my lower back muscles activated and they said that that wasn't good? They said that if I kept in bending down while maintaining a neural spine and activating my lower back muscles I will get injured one day. Tf the reason why I herniated a disc in the first place was because I dead lifted without activating my lower back muscles

Not a stretch, and I'm not an expert, but in my experience with a sore back, walking is an excellent option. May have to start slow because the back is sore, but it quickly warms up, and the pain and stiffness will reduce.

    • @happyd9733
      @happyd9733 2 роки тому +4

@@paulkennedy8163 Actually, it was literally every exercise that they said not to use. My physiotherapist recommended them all, among others. Also, lying flat on your back with your knees up. Then raise you pelvic area and contract your core muscles. It sort of extends the lower spine. That exercise and the ones that Brad and Bob don't recommend really helped me. I would imagine that spinal injuries are quite complicated and don't always have a 1 size fits all. Might be best to try their advice before mine.as the science has moved on through the years... But they worked very well for me

have been doing the one with my knee to my chest and the Pariformis stretch (with ankle on knee making a 4 position.) Is that ok? I am confused.

Dr. McGill explains that they work only as a short term analgesic. Those stretches give you 10-20min of relief but do nothing in the long term. That’s why generally people who do those stretches for years and years are still in back pain like myself.

I can’t tell if the last stretch they say not to do is a Supine Spinal Twist. They way Brad demo’d it wasn’t how I know how to do it. Usually the opposite leg is straight, but perhaps it’s the same thing? Just want to avoid it if I’m actually doing something and for my back!

I will still stick with the basic...the first three exercises are the most safest and proven effective for people with lower back pain...it is a matter of how you instruct your patient and the effect of it address the muscles that are been overused and abused with people who sits longer time and have poor posture...and the resent exercises are prescribed ,as you mentioned, are for athletes......

You guys are the best (in my opinion, of course.) About one thing that you recommend though, in other videos, Stuart McGill says not to do. On page 111 of his book, he writes: "And please stop lying on your back and dropping the knees to either side."

McGill actually recommends staying away from those exercises for back pain that Bob and Brad have recommended over the years. Live and learn. They may want to consider going back and deleting their old videos that tell you to do those stretches for your lower back pain.

When I do a certain movement with my leg, I feel a little stabbing pain in the middle of my sole, and then one of my toes gets stuck in a bent position and I can't move it for a while. What do you think is causing this? Thank you very much.

So this is confusing. I wish someone could clarify why these stretches have mixed reviews from professionals. Thanks!

    • @HereForFun98

Everyone’s body is unique and different methodologies exist (for example McGill Big 3, Mackenzie method etc.). It’s also hard to recommend just one thing because people’s pain to figure out what works and how consistent you will be with your treatment. So stretching or mobility yields different results. they’re doing the best they can by recommending different interventions.
