@@AMT_AllMyThoughts Respect your opinion man and hell, I actually like Valhalla and I totally agree with you on Ubisoft’s creative aspects of such an RPG but that’s the thing, it’s an RPG, as awesome as the game is, it’s not assassins creed, it’s not templars vs assassins or abstergo’s war in the modern days, IMO it should have been called for honor because it is pretty good and the concept of its gameplay is absolutely amazing but it is not the assassins creed we thrived for years ago, and it is successful in its RPG genre but not as an assassins creed game, hell I’d say I want unity because that’s how much I miss the old assassins creed games, fighting wars against the wrong side, epic plot twists and sets of events (ac rogue), obviously the huge man o war battles and the classic stealth gameplay and lastly, a beautiful story set in the 16th century at least since we have been having their origin prequel games for the past 5 years and the start with origin was good but now it’s just boring and we seem to slowly draw away from the creed perspective of the franchise and like i said as good it is, it’s not assassins creed. Hope you understood what I mean although I may not have been able to express it as clearly but yeah that’s sums up my opinion of valhalla
Black Flag will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember the feeling the first time I set sail and the boys started singing and a storm was rising up on the seas it was just an epic video game moment that I will cherish for the rest of my days
I am very very attached to the whole ac franchise, but THIS game is the one I'm most attached to I have many good memories playing this game after I got home from school on a Friday night and played till the morning. Possibly my favorite memory with this game is when me and my friends found a white whale for the first time and it took us a solid three hours to get it down but when we finally did we all jumped out of our seats and started cheering (those were the good ol' days)
From a sailor (me): This is a quite an accurate portrayal of how sailors view their job as there's a love/hate relationship with sailing. On one hand there's the beauty of being at sea and travelling to new places but on the other hand theres a disdain for the long stints at sea. the bad food and the sadness of leaving loved ones behind. it's an old song but still rings true for those at sea.
I'm replaying it now, actually. Been a couple years. Man, what a sorry state this franchise is in now. I miss the good old days with Altair and Ezio and Edward. 3 could've been better, but I liked it a lot more than everything from Origin on. They just didn't feel like Assassin's Creed games to me. And now there's the trainwreck that will be Infinite. But the good ones will always be out there and we'll always have the memories of the first time we solved an Assassin's tomb, the first time we set foot on the Jackdaw, our time with Desmond, that fucking map puzzle...good times.
yeah...just sailing around the carrabiean not fighting or really doing anything just sailing around looking at the beautiful islands and listing to song form my crew good times really peaceful and relaxing...
The first game is where it had to end, the only one where assassins made sense. This game could be so much better if it took the life of a pirate without the animus/assassin bs.
Same, though my second favorite is probably the most underrated AC game: Syndicate. The last game before they went full RPG and I loved every second of it.
"For years I've been rushing around, taking whatever I fancied, not giving a tinker's curse for those I hurt. Yet here I am... with riches and reputation, feeling no wiser than when I left home. Yet when I turn around, and look at the course I've run... there's not a man or woman that I love left standing beside me." -Edward Kenway
A great lesson in money and materialism can't fill your empty soul. It may make you feel better temporarily, but it costs you in the end. When all you are surrounded by are gold coins and riches it gets lonely. I rather be poor, but integrated in a loving community than be rich and alone . Something to think about these days. Search inside yourself.
@@robertpatter5509 - or even worse: gold coins, riches and people ‘close’ to you who, as you know in your heart, only want to be close to you for the aforementioned things.
@@MensHominis Also that. Do people value you for your stuff , looks and things only or is it character? Looks fade. Money gets spent but character is eternal.
For those who do not know: In olden times there were no clocks or timers and if something like hoisting a sail involved many of the crew, there needed to be a method of timing their actions so it would all happen together on time. The result was the Sea Shanty, a rhymed song that was simple to learn and all could sing in time together. Thus everyone knew when to do his part, pulling on a rope, raising the anchor, preparing the cannons to fire, or even when to get in line for a meal. These old sea shanties are the remains of that simple but beautiful system. Enjoy them. R!
Reminds me of rice planting songs in certain parts of Asia like Japan, Vietnam, and Philippines. The job itself was considered to be back breaking and hard to the point that farmers and farmhand would constantly complain during the work. Singing in unison was used in order to distract them during their work.
Somehow I doubt that. The first clock was invented in around 14-15th century BC. The clock as we know it today was made at the end of 17th century, but they used Henry De Vick's clock for 300 years before that. Hourglass and sundial clock were used by sailors to tell the time. Sundial clock is very accurate. Hourglass is perfect for timings, for example. When you're spending years on the sea, you can tell time without even looking at the clock, you just follow the sun. It was not sang because there was no clock was the point of my comment. Now, they might have sang them when they done chores or in battle, but not because there were no clock back than, but for timing when to do stuff once they start singing. I mean, imagine you had to sing the whole song just so you could eat. It would take all fun from singing.
@@johnnybravo437No, OP is correct: there were no timekeeping instruments for labor. They didn’t use clocks or hourglasses to time their labor. From William Falconer’s 1784 Universal Dictionary of the Marine: “It requires, however, some dexterity and address to manage the handspec to the greatest advantage; and to perform this the sailors must all rise at once upon the windlass, and, fixing their bars therein, give a sudden jerk at the same instant, in which movement they are regulated by a sort of song or howl pronounced by one of their number.” Shanties were used to time their actions and keep crew in sync with each other. And they could also just be good relief from monotony/a fun way to pass the time.🫡
Also for those of you who don't know, the "Her" being left is not a woman, but the ship. This shanty was traditionally sung when the ship was at port after it had docked in the final spell at the pumps.
HAHAH i remember feeling sad when i accidentally shot that uh u know floating raft with a bed and all with a guy, if u capture him u get crewmen.. i always felt happy when i got one because i felt like i saved aperson
God, I hated my time in the Navy, and i would do it again in a heartbeat. Best job i ever had. The long stints at sea, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the ocean, the terrible food, the sunburns and blisters, the wonderful people. Absolutely terrible, and i miss it everyday.
As a former sailor I must this is how I felt when my boat was retired as I have been on her for five years I develop such an emotional strength it was hard to leave God Have mercy on all sailors who read this
The melancholy of this shanty represents perfectly how the game made me feel at the end: both somewhat happy for experiencing such a great game, but also sad about leaving it behind and the great characters in it. Probably a bit how Edward felt happy uniting with his daughter at the end, but sad about how many good friends he left behind hi in the Caribbean, the majority of which dying seeking a dream none were able to truly grasp. Black Flag for me was the peak of the franchise. The games afterwards never reached the same level.
The folks in the comments section seem confused about who the "her" is. The her jonny is leaving is a ship, not a woman. The lyrics in this version of the shantie are confusing though. Its supposed to be "the voyage is DONE, not the voyage is LONG." Tomorrow ye'll get your pay - sailors were paid at the end of the voyage when departing the ship
It's an alternate lyric. Instead of Johnny being told to go because it's already done he's being pushed to leave because the voyage is long and hard and there's a life waiting for him back home. Instead of it already being graduation at school he's being encouraged to graduate early and move on with his life rather than going back for a couple more years before moving on. Because the voyage is long and the winds don't blow he should get out while he can--take his pay, and go--don't re-up. It still makes sense, but instead of it being about leaving a boat at the completion of the journey it's about closing a chapter of his life so he can have one.
@@bufficliff8978 The only problem with that idea is that so many of the remaining lyrics explicitly talk about ships and never mention what you are talking about. Besides, using that logic, any song can be about anything.
@@hooligan9794 Yes. Like John Green says the author's intent only matters to the author. The meaning of art is in the experience of those who consume it. Books, music, and paintings have many meanings and can mean anything
for anyone unaware, the "her" in leave her johnny is actually referring to an old ship that's been run down, not an actual person edit: hi its been a year id just like to ask that people please for the love of god stop making johnny depp v amber heard jokes, not only are they unoriginal they barely relate to the song in anyway other than "omg jack sparrow!!"
Music is meant to be interpreted differently by the listener. There is the actual meaning of the song. And there is how the listener interprets it. If you want it to be about a girl, then it's about a girl. If you want to be true to the song, then it's about the ship
@@joshuanewton The song says about leaving someone or something because of useless. So it could perfectly be about the extintion of the Earth, and "Johnny" could be the last one alive leaving it for looking another planet to live. Now, is my interpretation wrong?
It's hard to lose someone special to you. Especially if there is nothing in logic that says she loved you back. Others may say it is foolish to cry over the passing of a ship, but they are the fools for they do not understand what she has done for us. She has been battered, bruised, and set ablaze. She's carried many a man, and cargo that no man can lift alone. She has fought with us, killed with us, save with us, and freed with us. She has guided us through storm and hardship. And she has always stayed afloat for us, kept us safe and at home while rocking us to sleep at night. Holding us together like an angelic mother with all her crew her children of the wind and sea. But now she has begun to rot, and asks softly to be put to rest. And the next time someone tries to tell us that our beloved ship cannot love us back, think back on all that she's done for us and you will see that she loved you just as dearly, and is so proud of the person you've become, even as she rests at the bottom of the sea.
It's incredible how a song can hit so different with added harmonies. There's something about harmonizing that just pleases the brain on such an instinctive and visceral level.
Well I want this song to be sung at my funeral one day. I'm the only sailor in my family and I also see my life as a voyage. When my life will end eventually the long voyage will be over. I want this song to represent how far I've gotten in my life when i die. Tho I would prefer burial at sea as well but it isn't legal
However if you have your body cremated you can have your ashes scattered into the ocean... my mother wants/wanted her ashes scattered in the mountains up near Kenilworth in Queensland, Australia because she loved the scenery there, I have her ashes now all I need to do is wait for the weather to settle down and plan to do it
I'm gonna agree with this one cus I'd love have it sung maybe for my burial at sea off the coast of Thailand but I doubt it would even be done if I asked in whatever will I write cus what active duty sailor can be bothered with it for a shellback being spread to the winds on the south China sea
I normally don't play AC games but Black Flag was one I played a lot, mostly because of the soundtrack. Simply sailing the sea and listening to the shanties was really amazing and had a special feeling to it.
I just realized this song is not about Johnny hating himself for leaving his beloved woman on land while he's sailing, its about Johnny wont leave his beloved ship to be scuttled or abandoned
Beforr I left for the military my buddies and I went to our family's cabin on a little lake, got hammered and, sang this out with all our heart on a little rowboat. There were people watching and all were smiling. Now I'm hundreds of miles from home and I miss it
Un juego muy bueno. Y si, da nostalgia el ver como eran los viejos tiempos en los que los juegos de Assassin's Creed si eran assassin's creed. Los de ahora son una tontera RPG.
ah, so many memories this song brings, I remember that in 2014 my father gave me an Xbox 360, it may not be a lot for the year but here in Brazil a console is very expensive, I went to the store and bought the Black flag, it was hours prowling those seas and listening to the songs, a feeling I may never have again :(
the fact that this now ancient song manages to still touch the hearts of young men and boys through a completely different way than when it was written.first through the horrors and freedom of the open sea then video games in the end we're still singing the same chanty and dreaming the same dreams . Dreams of freedom and of riches and dreams of hope
AC3 was massively underlooked and underrated. I never played the originals with Ezio and Altaire but I hold AC3 and AC4 very close to my heart. AC3 had quite a few flaws but the experience and characters around it was fantastic. I wish I could go back to those years. I might've been very young, innocent, and ignorant but I would cherish spending times with my brothers playing though games like these when we didn't have a care in the world. Even though I was severely under the rated age for assassin's creed I loved every second of it. We always look forward to growing up in childhood and now as I look back at my childhood I realize why people told me to enjoy being a child because you'll never get those times back. Very good memories. I'll always cherish the memories I had with my brothers in childhood and the chances my parents let me have by allowing me to play these games.
What a song. Sometimes in life, things just don't go how you want and you have to cut your losses and soldier on. Change hurts and isn't easy. But sometimes you have to walk away from things. It could be a relationship, job, your hometown. So many meanings can be drawn from this
my wife left me 6 months ago for a man she met on tik tok..This song as I sing it reminds me of her, this comment just healed me, thanks my brother, you really did alot with your words
All these shanties reminded me of when I first played AC4: BF. It was one of the most beautiful games I have played in years. It is still by far one of my favourite games of all time. It is pure nostalgia to hear them again
The first time I heard this song was when I was on vacation in an amazing inn with my family, and listened to it again on the day-long car ride. This was also one of the songs that started to get me into singing in public more. This song is very special to me, and not just because it's gorgeous.
I played AC Black Flag everyday during one of the darkest years of my life. Some of my best memories were sailing around listening to my crew singing this shanty. I’m grateful.
I left my job 5 months ago for a complete career switch, I had know idea wether it was the right choice or not at the time. I played this song as I drove away with all the possessions I’d accumulated in my office over years in the back of my car. Happy to report months later that the switch was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Work to live, don’t live to work!
My 2 year old LOOOVES this song. Sings it all the time (without me even playing it for a few days!) Asks for it all the time. Asks to replay it over and over. Makes me so proud!!
It was my childhood dream to play a game in which I could commandeer a pirate ship, and then AC4 delivered just that. It was amazing. I always forget all my worries when I'm on a boat, surrounded by the sea, even if it's stormy. I never experienced what seasickness could be like. I remember watching a video of a ship caught in a storm and how amazed I was at the beauty of a marvel of human engineering withstanding and rolling over such powerful forces of nature. It's my ultimate dream to have enough money and passive income to live the boatlife before I die, no matter the many challenges of it. Anyways, I got carried away. Why the hell did you read this comment anyway? UA-cam is my diary and there's nothing you can do about it.
@@hemamalinisrinivasan2690 It just never gots old,I would play it right now but my R2 button (sprinting button) is half broken becose I played the ACIV so much.😆
This and Randy Dandy-O and a few other shanties have been playing in my head for about six years coming up every so often but when I started playing sea of thevies about two years ago they camtof back in full force and reminded me othe good ole days of coming home after school hoping on the Xbox 360 and setting sail and sinking almost every non pirate ship I saw, and becoming depressed for like two weeks when Black Beard died, and how the game got so interested in pirate that for next two years I did nothing but study a whole lot on pirates
I know this song was originally written about the ship. But it also heavily seems like it’s about leaving your wife/ girl, and your mates are all advocating for it. “For the voyage is done (I know this version says long, but it originally says “done”) meaning, the relationship ran its course) “and the winds don’t blow” (the love/ thrill is gone)
Sometimes I think that these men normally had a short life, but the experience of getting on a ship and sailing is epic imagine yourself on a ship singing this and randy song, simply a dream
I was playing this masterpiece for the 3rd time in 2020 (yes, that GODDAMN year), it should have been just another depressing quarantine night...but the crew started to sing "Leave Her Johnny" and I immediately felt a mix of happiness and doubt about the future in that difficult time...just like a sailor who doesn't know what kind of mystery waits for him at the end of the ocean. It will never be just a game.
Johnny: "I don't know what to do anymore Kenway." Edward: "Let it go Johnny. You loved her. You did everything for her. It's time to let go." Johnny: "Bu- but, how?" Edward: "Grab my hand old friend, It's time to set sail. " 0:00
When i left my last job, one of my coworkers played this song for me on my last day. Now this song just brings back fond memories of that job, and it kinda makes me tear up oddly enough.
For me, no other video game has had a bigger impact story-wise. This game was my childhood and it's insane that it hit shelves ten years ago already. Knowing the meaning of this shanty, it hits you like a train if you grew up playing this. Thank you, Captain Edward Kenway for an experience we the fans will never forget.
Lyrics: I thought I heard the Old Man say "Leave her, Johnny, leave her" Tomorrow ye will get your pay And it's time for us to leave her Leave her, Johnny, leave her Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow And it's time for us to leave her Oh, the wind was foul and the sea ran high Leave her, Johnny, leave her She shipped it green and none went by And it's time for us to leave her Leave her, Johnny, leave her Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow And it's time for us to leave her I hate to sail on this rotten tub Leave her, Johnny, leave her No grog allowed and rotten grub And it's time for us to leave her Leave her, Johnny, leave her Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow And it's time for us to leave her We swear by rote for want of more Leave her, Johnny, leave her But now we're through so we'll go on shore And it's time for us to leave her Leave her, Johnny, leave her Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow And it's time for us to leave her
The nostalgia of this song is off the charts.. Being younger and carefree blasting this & sailing across the map just vibing.. Black Flag was special man
I lost my mother last August, and during her burial I sang this song to myself, I don't know why but it felt right, so this song, this rendition is very meaningful to me.
When I was eighteen, my step-brother, who is called Johnny broke up with his girlfriend and keep pestering the poor girl to get back together for almost a whole year. And me and my friends started to sing "Leave her Johnny, leave her." Everytime her name came out of his mouth. Eventually, it got the job done and he stopped.
Yeah it's about ship, but this song motivated me to move on from my ex crush and start to looking the real treasure (better future.., Better Life..., and better one....)
I just got a flood of memories about my brother. He introduced me to video games, and this one when I was around 7. One of the last memories I have was him singing this to me. I really want to get this game now.
I really love this song but, something about it makes me so sad, I cry almost every time I hear it. It doesn't seem like it's supposed to be very sad but the way it's delivered hits me right in the feels.
Anytime I listen to this song, it fills me with so much Nostalgia. Like I know it might sound pathetic, but I tear up when I hear this, I just reminds me that I’ll never experience my first memories with this game. Without a doubt, my favorite song, and game of all time.
Please erase all my memories of this game so I can go through these beautiful emotions again. I've played black flag a few times but the emotions you feel on the first playthrough are unique
@@Viscount_Castlereagh Right, and then you'd go diving and encounter 5-6 sharks all coming at you at once, which made that whale look real cute. GOD!!!! I miss this game so much, I can guarantee you, that whenever I play it again, I will actually start crying, 7 years, and I still remember hunting for those goddamn monkeys that wouldn't stop getting away, or, getting spawn-killed by a jaguar, and of course, you cannot forget about the Legendary Ships, those battles proved how good you were at the game, I remember them so well that I remember how much health I had at the end of each fight, i didn't even lose a bar of health, because I fought them so many times that I got used to their tactics and....sorry, I can go on all day long. You get the story though. Best AC game ever made.
I love how this is very close to an actually a real song that sailors of this time period sung. They usually sung it when the ship was about to dock, so they sung this song as their last opportunity to complain about the voyage before they got paid. But I find it so much cooler to interpret it as a ship sinking from it receiving too much water from a nasty storm with tall waves and how the crew is begging the captain to abandon ship and sail to shore on the row boats while the crew is also recalling their time on the ship.
Without the sounds of the ocean plus the lack of an instrumental, this song sounds much more somber than when I first heard it in Black Flag. Incredible song/game, I love it!
I was just out of high-school and in a relationship with a girl I did love, things happened fast and we started living together, things were not perfect and I was honestly terrified of getting her pregnant and being unable to provide a good life, I remember hearing this song and being inspired to live my own life while I still had that option, I took the chance and left, now 10 years later I'm sitting here alone and realizing the song was about the ship....
But you’re still alright man. I’m going through the same right now actually. You made the right choice - at least I hope so for your sake and for my own lol.
@@edeliteedelite1961 okay, your comment doesn’t make any sense. In my original comment I was talking about pirates singing there song as they lay there friend to rest in the waters. @Diablo Ultimez I agree 👍
I've just started to play Assassin's Creed 4 again and sailing on the jackdaw, and I'm not gonna leave her anymore guys!

I'm replaying this game once a year😅 i think my last voyage will be in the future, but not in the next couple of years
Why you gonna do me like that man?

Enjoy them. R!
LET'S GO BROOO
Really intersting ❤
@@johnnybravo437 OREOOOOOOOOOO nobody ask

The melancholy of this shanty represents perfectly how the game made me feel at the end: both somewhat happy for experiencing such a great game, but also sad about leaving it behind and the great characters in it. The folks in the comments section seem confused about who the "her" is. The her jonny is leaving is a ship, not a woman. The lyrics in this version of the shantie are confusing though. Its supposed to be "the voyage is DONE, not the voyage is LONG."
Tomorrow ye'll get your pay - sailors were paid at the end of the voyage when departing the ship
They probably changed the lyrics purposefully to make it about a woman
@@tomascosta627 I mean, the lyrics still make it obvious that it is about the ship.

Isn't the message of the song not to do that
It's hard to lose someone special to you.
Yeah, losing a ship that did so much for you had to be sad for a lot of people.

The nostalgia of this song is off the charts.. Being younger and carefree blasting this & sailing across the map just vibing.. Black Flag was special man
Doug got his fucking record. let's go.

This is how sea shanties were meant to be played
I lost my mother last August, and during her burial I sang this song to myself, I don't know why but it felt right, so this song, this rendition is very meaningful to me.
This song brings beautiful memories of the old times, when life was easier.
Johnny. *STOMP SIMPING AND SAIL WITH YOUR HOMIES!*
Dude the song is about the ship not about woman
@@hornymonke5303 stop simping about the ship then.
@@elijah_oofoof8891 If you don't simp for the Jackdaw... Idk what to tell you man
Yeah it's about ship, but this song motivated me to move on from my ex crush and start to looking the real treasure (better future.., Better Life..., and better one....)
@@elijah_oofoof8891 uh.... how will you sail if you don't have a ship?
"Its not about the gold its about the glory"
In a world without this song, we wouldn't have left her
There's no music playing and yet I want yo hear this again and again! What a beautiful voice!!!
I just got a flood of memories about my brother. He introduced me to video games, and this one when I was around 7. One of the last memories I have was him singing this to me. I really want to get this game now.
Damn. I hope I'm not getting this wrong or too dark, but it sounds like your brother was young when he died. I'm sorry.
For the first time in a long time, we can all agree. Ubisoft made us all unanimously happy.
Black Flag, uma obra prima que marcou muita gente 🖤🏴 Leave her Jhonny leave
I really love this song but, something about it makes me so sad, I cry almost every time I hear it. It doesn't seem like it's supposed to be very sad but the way it's delivered hits me right in the feels.
Anytime I listen to this song, it fills me with so much Nostalgia. Like I know it might sound pathetic, but I tear up when I hear this, I just reminds me that I’ll never experience my first memories with this game. Without a doubt, my favorite song, and game of all time.
Dont worry, you are not alone bud. Dont feel bad about it.. it is truly a magnificent game. 💚

Everytime I play assassin creed pirate i always hear this. Man i didn't play that game was like a year ago
Please erase all my memories of this game so I can go through these beautiful emotions again. I've played black flag a few times but the emotions you feel on the first playthrough are unique
When hunting a white whale was the biggest challenge you could face.
@@DwarfNFavor In my top 3 games ever made.
Every time I get back on ac4 I feel lonely because I finished everything and Im just sailing the seas with the jackdaw
I cried all 5 times. 😭😭
Music pre 1950 was something else, an art with soul and meaning, stories to be shared, not a commodity to be packaged and sold.
I’ve just graduated and this song actually makes a solid goodbye. Thanks ❤️
Essa música me faz querer jogar Black flag novamente 🐱
The shanties were such an awesome addition to the game.
This song is what I would believe pirates would sing at there comrades funeral. And that is why I love this song.
Law abiding merchants more like. Is everyone 7 years old or why does everyone associate these with pirates?
@@edeliteedelite1961 okay, your comment doesn’t make any sense. In my original comment I was talking about pirates singing there song as they lay there friend to rest in the waters. That has nothing to do with merchants. I don’t think merchants would sing this song at a funeral. You made my brain hurt, sir. Have a day.
@@edeliteedelite1961 because this is from a game that involves pirates 🗿🗿

You can don`t like AC, but you never say: "i don`t like AC`s music". It is so beautifull
For the voyage is long, and the wind won't blow and it's time for us to leave her!
Forgotten how much of an impression this game had on me when it was released
Estou jogando toda a saga, e concluí o AC 4 - Black Flag à poucos dias. Reviver toda a emoção dessa canção no AC Rogue é muito gratificante. Uma das melhores franquias de games que eu tive o prazer de conhecer em minha vida.
This song aged well like a fine mega pint of wine
I still come back every once in a while I love this song 😭❤️
