The edge - really abyss - in some of Steven Wilson's albums is something else. It's actually kind of off-putting and pathetic, in a way. Some of his best albums seem to have been serial murder or incest stuff by default, but only in the lyrics.... Like I say, edgy to the extreme, kind of pathetic in the attempt to be "dark" and against expectations. Most never pay full attention, I'm sure.
His later albums are actually criticized more and more for being too crude in concept musically. There you go. That's when it's picked up.
