As a BRZ owner and frequent message board dweller, the stock car actually makes closer to 250hp stock according to dozens of owners' independent dyno charts. I think Toyota didn't want to put the real number because it would be too close to the Supra's 255hp on paper (which is actually underrated as well). It's an NA engine, so there's really not much more tuning they'd be willing to do from the factory. Much like the last gen, I'm sure when/if this gets a power bump it will be 5-10hp claimed. Of course you can do a quite a bit more than that with an aftermarket tune though. Anyway, don't let the "228hp" fool you. This car is faster than it seems on paper.

    • @Chickentenddies
      @Chickentenddies 10 місяців тому +8

*250hp at the crank. Most stock dynocharts are getting 200-210hp at the wheels. Considering about 16% drivetrain loss, that puts you at about 250bph at the crank.

@@jonathanwrx7805 All the cars you mention are turbocharged though the gr86/brz is now the most powerful NA 4 cylinder up to date, overtaking the s2000 in both torque and maybe HP. I used to own a Honda eg hatch and ITR dc2. I now own a gr86 and it feels just like my old ITR that I regrettably sold years ago. Apart from the fact that the Gr86 is rwd and the ITR is fwd, it has the same raw driver focus feel that all the new Hondas these days lack. That's one of the reasons I didn't buy any Honda products made since the early 2000s. The Toyota gr86 stole my heart.

Nonsense. Only Americans are having these reported issues and I wonder why. I am currently watching the Japanese GR86/brz cup race and so far not a single failure. Same with the GRNA cup. These cars are being raced hard and not a single failure on track. Nowhere in JDM market or EUDM market there are reports of RTV or oil starvation blowing up engines.
Of course, there is going to be an acceptable failure rate just like any other cars on the market but the idea of massive failures on these cars is simply not true. Just Americans blowing shit out of proportion and over reporting a non-issue.

This is pretty much in line with all the other Ts models they have made in the past, or the "Series Blue" or "Series Yellow". I have a '17 Limited with the "performance package", which added Brembo brakes, Sachs dampers, and slightly wider wheels (probably to fit the Brembo brakes). It was a bargain package at $ 1200, but I knew they hadn't tarted up the drivetrain. Surprisingly, the colored stitching on the seats doesn't add any HP or torque.(sarcasm font enabled) I had a chance to buy a Series Yellow when I bought the Limited with PP, and other than being stuck with a yellow exterior and the stitching, it had nothing mine doesn't have. The Series Yellow was stickered at 32-33K. I drove mine off for under 28K in early 2018. Apparently nobody wanted BRZ's at that time.

What made the 2018 BRZ tS stand out from the rest of the later tS models is that it was designed alongside the '18 WRX STI type ra. So almost all the aero and suspension ques that went into the '18 Type RA ' were incorporated into the '18 brz tS. It is just more of an aggressive look than the later models despite the hp stats--which can always be tuned if so desired.

    Lots of upgrades
Subaru Canada, Inc. is pleased to announce the performance-focused 2024
Subaru BRZ tS made its Global Debut at Subiefest California on Sunday, July 23. The new trim level offers
the best performance and handling capability in a BRZ ever thanks to STI-tuned suspension and a
Brembo braking system. For the first time, EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is now standard on a
Subaru model equipped with a manual transmission. With 2024 marking the return of the BRZ tS to the
model line, this top trim level will be available nationwide at Subaru dealerships early next year.
The BRZ tS comes equipped with STI-tuned front and rear Hitachi dampers to maximize its lightweight,
ultra-low centre of gravity and precision handling, resulting in greater flexibility and better control and
stability. A high-performance Brembo braking system, including gold-painted 4-piston front calipers,
gold-painted 2-piston rear calipers and larger pads and rotors, enhances stopping power, fade
resistance, and pedal feel. The BRZ tS also has 18-inch wheels mounted with 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot
Sport 4 tires for superior grip and quicker turn-in.
Offered for the first time on any Subaru model with a manual transmission is EyeSight Driver Assist
Technology. The award-winning safety system includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking
System, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. All 2024 Subaru BRZ models
equipped with a manual transmission will include EyeSight as standard equipment.
The latest generation BRZ has bold styling that is as impressive as its handling prowess. The overall
impression is modern, agile, and powerful, with focused and functional aerodynamic details. The tidy
coupe design cuts through the air with a low and wide frontal area set off by large functional air intakes
and a low grille capped by proud fender arches that allow just enough room for suspension points. At
the rear of the car, the large rear fenders and wide track flow into dual exhausts for a low and wide
stance. This visual heft is lightened by a narrow greenhouse and rear deck that flow into a dramatic
    upturned “ducktail” rear spoiler.
Externally, the BRZ tS is distinguished by tS badging in the front grille and on the rear decklid. The
exterior foldable mirrors and roof-mounted shark fin antenna come in a Crystal Black Silica finish. The tS
will be available in the same colours as the other 2024 BRZ models, all of which will be complemented
by standard 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels in a unique dark grey finish.
Inside, the BRZ tS cabin is wrapped in black upholstery with tS-only contrasting blue stitching on the
front seat bolsters, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shifter boot and parking brake boot. Standard
performance-design front seats with height-adjustable head restraints feature a blue leather accent
down the middle. The leather-wrapped steering wheel integrates control switches for audio, cruise
control and Bluetooth. BRIN NAUB nubuck-like material enhances the instrument panel visor and door
trim. The iconic STI logo is displayed on the red starter button and customizable 7-inch digital
instrument cluster, also updated with tS-exclusive red accents.
The 2024 BRZ tS is powered by the platform’s 2.4-litre naturally aspirated 228-hp SUBARU BOXER engine
paired with a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission. The BRZ comes equipped with a comprehensive
list of standard features including a TORSEN limited-slip differential, Keyless Access with Push-Button
Start, LED steering-responsive headlights with High Beam Assist and automatic height adjustment,
Vehicle Stability Control with Track Mode, dual-zone automatic climate control, Hill Start Assist, power
fuel-door lock, power windows with auto up/down and pinch protection, centre console storage box
with dual USB-A input/charge ports and auxiliary input jack, variable intermittent windshield wipers with
speed-sensing mist feature, and Welcome Lighting.
Based on the Sport-tech trim, the tS also includes heated exterior power mirrors, an upgraded audio
system that includes a 2-channel amplifier and two additional speakers, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane
Keep Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and STARLINK Safety and Security.

The tS version of this 2nd-gen BRZ is not a “special edition” like the last generation - which is a 500 makes only. This is now going to be a trim-level option if that makes sense. If you have drove the car, you will notice that the power to weight ratio is pretty decent (commute, track, street, fun/$). All of us can drive a fast car fast, but not many can drive a slow car fast.
People overlooked the market both Subaru and Toyota target.
When the 2nd-gen BRZ was just released, Subaru had an interview video of why they would not boost the car (ie. COG, larger engine bay, pricer than the targeted market). Not to mention that this car costs as much as those family budget SUVs (ie. RAV4, Forester, Outback). These are not competing against the Supras, Nissan Z or sports car in that range.
The moment they make a bigger engine, boost it, more power, add a spoiler, and better looking wheels, like what was shown in the video (which is very subjective and I do not find it looks “cool” at all); the moment this car is no longer a BRZ we know about. Simply because this will significantly add weight, unnecessary costs (bringing the MSRP way up), and compromise the handling that they had been targeting. Let alone a spoiler like that do nothing but purely cosmetic (again it’s subjective) for a non-track car. I really appreciate Subaru for focusing on the goal they set at day one, otherwise this will be an extremely weird Frankenstein car.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the new tS, especially for $35k. The only reason Subaru sells any BRZs at all is because it's an excellent performance car value. If they added everything all the so called enthusiasts are whining about, it would cost north of $40k and literally no one would buy it because then you're getting too close in price to better options. People need to have some common sense when evaluating a niche, low volume vehicle like this. We're lucky this thing exists at all and it won't for much longer.

Why doesn’t Toyota or Subaru just turbo the engine or bore it out. Most people agree this thing is underpowered anyway.

@Bembli - how can you not get over the BRZ’s goofy smiley face? The GR86 will always look better no matter how much you start getting used to the complex style of the front end of the BRZ. I have a 1st gen BRZ and will consider buying the GR86 before the BRZ.

For everyone complaining about track reliability: this is literally a street car you can track sometimes, it’s not a track ready street car like an M3 or gt4. If you want a full on track purpose platform get ready to also pay a 20% premium that would go into a dry sump system, upgraded internals, larger fan and radiator, and adjustable suspension with camber settings. That’s without mentioning a rise in power and potentially an LSD. See what I mean? Let’s not waste our time here.

100% agree on the wheels. Black wheels suck. From any distance you just get a black void in the wheel well. Can't fathom why people like black wheels.

I still don't like the design of this new generation, looks like a car my mom who couldn't care less about what she drives would buy, not a car enthusiast.
While the MK5 Supra is the ugly brother to the MK3 and MK4, it has a specific and recognizable look to it, if the new BRZ didn't have a badge I wouldn't really know it's a Subaru...

Might be a bit overpriced, but underpowered? Not at all. This car is faster than a WRX and punch above its weight hanging with mustang GTs.
