  • It’s funny looking back at this memory and how grossed out I was about modern cloth diapers due to my lack of education. In 2009 there wasn’t as many resources or brands… the community was much smaller and less centralized on Internet forums/social media.
Nowadays cloth diaper support and education is much more accessible through means of social platforms! It’s really cool to see how the community has changed
It was fun looking back through these photos of a different era of my life. Being a teen mom feels like it was a different lifetime, but it is part of my story and greatly shaped who I am today.

I remember being somewhat paranoid that people would think I was pregnant when I was in middle and high school, because I was really skinny/gangly/tall with a big pot belly (which I'd had from childhood, but it was getting more obvious as I got taller). No one actually approached me about it, but it was just this weird thing that didn't make sense. Didn't find out till my senior year of high school that I was a Coeliac. I literally had that big belly from being malnourished, all that time.
That pot belly never went fully away, so my twenties were spent explaining my medical history to people who asked me when I was expecting. I remember stretching the empty skin just to be creepy (no baby here!). I try to be polite about it, at least verbally, but that was pretty brutal, since I was very baby crazy for part of that time and was just *not* in a financial position to be trying for a child. And then to have my attention constantly drawn to it. Sometimes it takes the shock of someone saying, 'Oh, this? I was chronically malnourished my entire adolescence' to realize how intrusive they are being.
I can't imagine what would have happened if I actually had been confronted with pregnancy stigma, as a teen. It seems awful. I'm really, *really* glad that you had good structures in place to give you help.
In our district, they often just moved you to a different school for 'troubled kids' - which actually was a phenomenal school with excellent, groundbreaking support, but that wasn't the impression anyone our age had, because all we knew was that was where the 'difficult' and traumatised kids went. So, A+ on the support and therapy and whatever else, but C- on peer understanding / stigma management.

Would you be comfortable doing more videos about your life? It’s interesting! Love the diaper videos too! You were my inspiration for starting cloth diapering. On second child now. 🥰 my favorite diaper is Blueberry simplex but I also like all sorts of pocket diapers.

I actually used to be a family vlogger when i first came to UA-cam in 2015. I moved pretty much strictly to cloth education around 2018 or so. I do have a few older videos still up but most of them have been privated.
I just don’t love family vlogging because it can be super performative after awhile. Days here are pretty boring lol.
I do miss doing day in the life videos! But my girls are almost completely out of diapers 🥲

The performative aspect I bet happens to a lot of ppl on social media. Shoot, ever see Real World?.. show use to be great, then the business side likely took over, and decided to make more profits.
I say if you're still interested in informing others with their LO's, maybe grow your channel with your children.. you're not gonna be using cloth diapers forever, so why not show us the next steps?
I wish I found you earlier.. the whole baby food industry has me scared to death.. I'm trying BLW with my daughter, but I feel that all the videos I come across are just so staged.
Keep doin You Momma!! You Rock it!~
      💜✌️🌒

I went through all of that in high school. I had a teen advantage program for teen pregnancy. I was 14 years old while pregnant and had him at 15. Right now he’s 9 years old.

I just watched this and realized we’re the same age; I can’t imagine having had a baby then 😅 My sister had her first at 18; while she had just graduated and wasn’t in school people were still pretty brutal. Teen moms have to deal with a whole other level of judgment from everyone that no one else can really relate to.

Yes I started listening to cloth diaper videos in 2015 when my husband was in basic training and we hadn’t yet had children. I stumbled on Naturally Brittney and Heidi Kim

I cloth diapered my first I got a washer when he was 9 months old. (He was born in ’08) I didn’t have any support or help. I was 20 and a single mom and I bought myself 24 bum genius 2.0’s. I think there is definitely not enough resources or support groups for cloth diapers. My son is now 13 and I am cloth diapering number 4 and 5. I am just now looking into flats, but there is still a lot I don’t know. I really love watching your videos though. Thank you

I was a teen mom too. 17 when I got pregnant but 18 at her birth. I finished twelve grade , when I was pregnant. I was the only one in my school, who was pregnant. In Guatemala it’s not very accepted. We moved to Germany, I’m half german. Now we live in the USA and our daughter is 13 years old and we’re finally having our next child ( four losses in between) in a few weeks, another girl, wich I am happy about. I want to try cloth diapers this time.

We started at the same time. My son was born in February 2015 and I definitely watched all those creators. I had to read so many blogs to figure it out. I’m out of the diaper word now, but I still love following you❤️

I’m not to sure why but I always thought you were around my age (22) but I realize you just have such a great personality on here it gives you so much youth. My mom was a mom at 16 as well she shared her troubles with me and really pushed me to be educated on reproductive health and other things. I’m 22 on baby number 2 now and I realize I could never do this at 16. Glad you are able to reflect and share with us.

I was in high-school at the same time you were. Here in newark ohio we had a whole class dedicated to teen moms we had over 26 girls in that class my freshman year by my senior year it was well over 40 girls. Way to many teen moms!! It's honestly sad to me now because most of them don't have custody of them kids and picked the drug life here. 😪
All these 11-14 year old kids just didn't get a fair shot here. Im so proud of the teen mom you became because your kids have an amazing mom!!!!!

After I had my oldest daughter I spoke in health classes each semester at the high school and middle school talking about teen pregnancy, statistics, and prevention.
When I spoke to the 8th graders, one of them was pregnant. She ended up graduating the same year her son went to kindergarten. She went on to have a large family like me and living her best life!
I know that’s not the case for everyone but I am fortunate to have a family who supported me to stick with school and graduate. Not everyone has the same privilege or support which can lead to poverty and, in some cases, substance abuse.

My mom cloth diapered my youngest brother (born when I was a teen) so I had already planned on doing it too, and I’m pretty sure she didn’t have BabyCenter, just her La Leche League friends. ❤️
But in 2012 when I had my first son, I thought Genevieve MamaNatural was so bomb!! 😆
She really is cool, she inspired me to start my online business that I’m working on. I was so thrilled when I won an AppleCheeks diaper from her giveaway back in the day. 😄 thanks for taking me back

I'm sitting here attempting to do math in my head. I think I started cloth diapering in 2013. I wasn't really part of a cloth diapering community, other than getting another local mom to also cloth diaper. We both used gDiapers with prefolds provided by a diaper service. We only had coin operated washers at our apartments.
I had discovered gDiapers years before when researching eco friendly disposable diapers for making a diaper cake for a friend's baby shower.
I only used one brand of diapers from newborn to toddler. Now that I know what else is out there, I feel like I need to try it all! But there was definitely something nice about being content with what I had back then.
Thanks for sharing your story. 💜 Heidi

I never did get the chance to use gdiapers. I know a lot of people loved them for the newborn stage! The design of it intimidated me lol
What did you think of gdiapers?

    • @ECpeesy
      @ECpeesy 2 роки тому

@@JaysNest gDiapers worked well for us! They fit well on my thin son. When I tried them with my daughter they didn't fit so great on her chubby thighs. The only thing I didn't like about gDiapers is that they could be really bulky when using with prefolds. They were super easy to put on and take off.

I started in 2010 (I think) my first foster child turned up in them and I was thrown into the deep end!
Back then you were only "allowed" to use a teaspoon of an approved cloth diaper safe detergent and had to strip every week or month.
Do you remember the cloth diaper channel? It still exists but I think a lot of the videos have been taken down but its fun to look back on.

Ahh it’s so cool to see you on this side of the interwebz! Isn’t it weird that it felt so normal for me to be a teen mom? Now that I’m older and my oldest is approaching the age I got pregnant at, it’s so weird to see how young I actually was. Idk how we survived 😂 but she turned out to be a really awesome young woman. She’s kind, and top of her class intelligent, and she’s head of her schools student body lol. I must’ve done something right and I’m super proud of who she’s growing into 💕but wow! I was just a baby 🥺
