Thank you! I am 54 years old and I am starting to learn this beautiful instrument... (self-taught). I find this video very motivating and well explained! Congratulations, I will continue watching your online classes. Your video of the chords is also brilliant. Greetings!
So true. Our ego is our worst enemy as players. I try to think that what comes out of my horn is beautiful, and I try to stay out of the way of myself to get to where I would like to be.
I asked a golf pro to improve my putting. He said "Everyone aims for the hole in one. Don't. Focus your first putt on getting within five feet of the hole. Next putt, aim to get two feet from the hole. Third putt, you're in a great position to drop it in." Same thing.
Inspiring words and wise advice. And I think it's great that you are self taught because you are a very good teacher, this reminds me of the words of the poet William Blake 'improvement makes straight roads, but the crooked roads without improvement are the roads of genius'
I so agree. We all beat ourselves up sometimes for not being where we want to be, but don’t always realise where we were previously and how we have progressed. It’s a continuous journey for sure. You are so right.
I meditate daily and try to follow a Zen approach to life ! This is funny and profound as I don’t apply any of my life principles to the sax playing. Your video is a huge reminder that as in life as in playing the sax the same principles … I always feel disappointed that I am not better at it . The last principle then to underpin your excellent video is don’t compare yourself with others or time ! Many thanks . Another brilliant lesson Lynden .
This is what needed to hear right now . That’s for this approach to mentality of learning . I had a practice session last week and got stuck in a mental loop .I As you said progress is the struggle. I always finish session playing something that I like ❤️ Needed to hear this presentation!
100% agree. I made myself my music skills during 40 years with different instruments. And I never give up and always enjoy. And when I take a new instrument, the level increase fast because the background I made is strong like you. Happy to hear that someone else think like me ❤. Regards
Thank's just needed to hear that today after 3,5 years of playing mostly selftaught and have come to a platå where I have a hard time to move further on!
I played golf. Four parts. Driving, long/medium irons, chipping, putting. Never do they all work together unless you are a top pro. Sax is similar. One day I feel I am getting great sound and spot on rythm etc. Next day struggle to get low notes or similar. You kinda get used to it and keep going back for more!
I keep telling myself that if playing sax was easy then everybody would be doing it. It requires hard graft and dedication and can some times be a little overwhelming even in terms of what to prioritise. But the graft definately pays off.
Hi! After a shaky start on the soprano a few days ago i am thrilled to report that i can now play 6 notes in tune😂 tomorrow i shall aim to play a whole scale and thereafter who knows?
Ciao. Thanks for the great videos and great tips. I had the same path as you, completely self-taught. The only problem I had, and which I believe I still have, is never having ever established an effective daily study plan with certainty. Could you give some suggestions on this? Thank you
It’s sad when you play with other players and they no there scales and cords and have no problem and they take the piss out of u. Because you may not understand or not has quick has them
Thanks!
Thank you so much 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎

Thank you for this. Something I really needed to hear.
You are so welcome 🤝🤝😎😎🎷🎷
Sensitively put, thoughtful and certainly useful for an awful lot of players struggling more with themselves than the music before them. Cheers.

Pretty slow actually but I can do it 😎😎

Sorry to hear that Dave! They shouldn’t do that
