Tried all the pro sax educators on youtube for years, guess what Lynden you are the best. No thrills, explained in laymans terms i feel better with the sax after i have watched and listened to you. Keep it coming please.Would you one day show us the setting you use on mixer etc please and your speaker.
Wow Peter, that is so kind of you to say, thank you. I will take note of what you asked about my mixer and speaker and see if I can make a video about that. Thanks again for your lovely comment!! 😎😎🎷🎷🤝🤝
Wow, your explanation of achieving a mouth position and opening your throat are the best I have ever heard. Every one of your videos are so helpful to me . Thank you and heres a coffee
Hello. Thank you for all these tips ❤. In french the point 8 we say "être dans la bulle" more or less "be in the bubble". It is a so nice feeling any musician must play music like this. That is amazing. Thanks again
You ent old. I was six years older than you are now when I first took up sax. Admittedly you wouldn't think so from the progress made in the six years since but you're changing that!
Every time I watch one of your videos, they make me happy. I am glad to learn you use the Meyer 5 - me too...I've stuck with it a long time just like you advise. Very good advice throughout this video.
That last point is so ON!!! If you're not in the music, in your Sax, in the moment, so many problems will come to the front. I just play for myself, but when I'm not in the moment, I find it better to just hang it up for a few, take a break, get focused, then try again.
Good morning Lynden. Once again a from the heart video as you say. I truly and honestly look forward to every one of your videos that you put out. I have been following you for some time and find your instructional manner incredibly refreshing, relaxing and warm. I know that sounds silly, but take it as it is meant. I struggle to find the time and the enthusiasm sometimes to get practice in as I am sure most beginners do because we think we sound annoyingly loud and cr-p so it is hard. Personally, I find the scales practice with your simple backing tracks the most encouraging for me to pick my sax up and have blow. In the words of our greatest comedian, as long as you play the right notes, they do not necessarily have to be in the right order and its true to a degree!! There is one more thing that I think would be extremely useful to us for you do and that is call and response. I do apologise if you already have a video doing this. PS. 58 is not that old. Keep it coming young man. Norgs, Manchester. Coffee on its way old bean.
Wow Norgs, your message has absolutely made my day, that’s so kind of you, thank you. I’m over the moon to think that my videos are helping you and other people, it’s just so cool. Thanks for the suggestion on call and response, can you be a bit more specific? If you can, I’ll certainly look at making a video. Thanks again so much and thanks for the coffee ☕️ 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎

Thank you Lynden for making a video on tone. You are really good at explaining things and make them to easy to understand. I have a question on harmonics, how does practicing that improves one's tone?
Hi George, thank you so much for your lovely feedback and the reason why playing harmonics helps is that it gives the muscles of your face a really good workout and helps you develop your embouchure, giving you more control, strength and flexibility. Does that make sense? 🤝🤝😎😎🎷🎷
Buenos dias lyden,, just to pick up on your final point my old sax teacher Alan Dampier god bless him used to say to me allways practice and play with conviction so that echos what you have just been explaining last thing he told me was allways give every note its full value..great channel best wishes to you and your family...Peter, Guardamar del Segura Spain
Another great lesson , I have tried so many mouthpieces looking for the holy grail piece . Took your advice and stuck to a seller soloist F facing for the last year , it’s now the one I will stick with . Will try the yawn technique . Thanks again for the tips and lessons , love your style of teaching . Careful with your punch bag training , be kind to your wrists …. I speak from experience and ten years older lol
Hi Trefor, thank you for this, I will be careful and glad you decided to stick to one MP. Let me know how you get on with the Yawn. Thanks again 🎷🎷😎😎🤝🤝
Hey Lynden, thank you for this wonderful lesson (I got it by email before you made the vid 🙂). I know this will be so invaluable to many like myself who want to vastly improve their tone. Mate, you are the best.
Hello I think my tone is the best quality in my playing. Looking for a tenor and watched your comparison of vintage v new Alto. Have you made a vid between tenor? I am really interested to see if your Goldington tenor would suit me and put an end to me search for a phat sound in a clunky tenor like my old Naked Lady.
Hi George, thanks for this. A long while ago I made this comparison video, it was before my relaunch so the production quality is different. Let me know if this helps 🤝🤝😎😎🎷🎷 Goldington Tenor sax ua-cam.com/video/VpOKwW-PJCs/v-deo.html. Here’s a direct comparison ua-cam.com/video/n0_5vEKN-Mo/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Thank you Linden, you are the Best . Your tips are so helpful. I never successed to put lips out 🙁 . It s a pitty. each time i do it, sounds are so bad ( in french, 'ca fait des canards') . i wish i can do it one day, but i really do not know how to do it with security ( in gigs for example) . so i put always lips down in mouth .. that s bad , but i do not know how to do what you suggested in your video. thanks again for all.
Great video Lynden. Just last week, I was lucky enough to have some face time with a jazz player in the family. These are all the points covered and it's finally starting to give me that satisfaction of tone quality. On the topic of Overtones, (14:10 - 14:20) does your lower lip go more inward for the higher frequencies? Thanks 🎉
The sax you're playing also matters. You take an Otto Link and pair it with say Rampone & Cassani (which is a large bore instrument ) and you'll get a much spread and fluffy tone. On the other hand, take your Otto Link and put it on a Yamaha and the tone will be more centered and barky. Hence, the saxophone matters as much as your mouthpiece.
Good day Sir, thanks for all you've done with making these videos that are quite helpful. I subscribed and joined as a member. Please advise me on how to send you a video of my playing. I'm a beginner now for three and a half year's, but I'm realizing that there is so much to learn. I only know a handful of songs, and it's just mainly chorus.
Hi Denny, thank you for being a member, that's really great and I really appreciate it. Just drop me a line to lynden@saxandhoney.com and I'll see how I can help :-)
Great advice. I use Yamaha Standard Series 4C MP and Yamaha Alto Saxophone synthetic Reed 2.5. I find the synthetic reeds good for learing as they last a long time. I don't get the funny tastes from the traditional reeds. But I'd imagine I'll get hammered for saying this..
Thanks

Another great video Lyndon, many thanks.

Great video Lynden, thank you. Really useful tips which I shall put into practice and hopefully improve my tone, which I think is so important too.
