The other day I saw #611 being hauled through the Enola Yards in Harrisburg, PA. It caught me by surprise as I was zipping bye on the highway. I've been to the Railroad Museum in Strasburg a few times with my children over the years. Now they're grown up and I'm planning on taking my grandsons to Strasburg and redoing the Museum experience again.
@@thunderbird1921 I wouldn't think she's the largest engine to ever grace Strasburg's tracks because of those engines at the museum, BUT I would hazard a guess that she's the largest to be used to pull a train on the line.
@@SgtNuker The largest engine to arrive on Strasburg rails prior to 611 was Nickel Plate Road berk #757, weighing 802,000 lbs and is 100ft long. Now 611 arrives and weighs 872,000 lbs and i 109ft long. 611 now holds the record!
It’s really nice to see old stream trains coming alive. My wife Dad was one the the Engineers that ran the Big Boy from Denver to SFO. God bless you all 🙏🙏
I remember as a kid taking the train with my grandmother from Welch, WV to Roanoke,VA. It was the Norfolk Western Powhatan Arrow pulled by the beautiful "J" Series steam locomotives. My family took several trips via the N&W trains. It was such a wonderful and comfortable way to travel. These are very precious memories!
Interesting that this appeared in my You Tube random feed tonight, 5-24-21. 611 is on its way back from the North Carolina Transportation Museum, to spend the Summer on the Strasburg. Looking forward to seeing it again.
That was awesome. Wish I was having a picnic at those tables. Made me feel like I was part of " back in the day". The ending was peaceful and gave me chills. Wanted to cry.
Most of the Strasberg passenger car are ex Boston and Maine railroad originally from the great passenger fleet then downgraded to the commuter fleet into north station in Boston, the last great fleet of wooden passenger cars. Then in the 50's when the Budd RDC cars took over all passenger operations the wooden passenger cars were downgraded to work train service. This is where Strasberg acquired their passenger fleet from. And they were happy to get them from full coaches to combines ( passenger and a section of the car was for bulk cargo) One reason why they bought so many cars and chose wooden cars over all the good steel cars on the market is they built a wood shop and hired local carpenters, Amish carpenters that are used to build without power tools and the quality if a little long in coming as a wooden passenger car is much more difficult to build and more difficult to rebuild. If I recall the output of the shop is roughly one car a year which looks like it just was outshopped by a company that specialized in passenger cars in 1872 from Jackson and Sharp which built passenger cars and boats starting in 1872 and quickly became known as a quality builder of boats and railroad cars.
So is she there now till October? Or go into hiding till the event? And when the event happens, will she just sit on display, or actually do runs back and forth?
This is glorious! What happened? Did 89 break down? Did 611? I noticed that it squealed and scraped a lot in that last few minutes. Was something sticking?

absolutely amazing - thanks for sharing from germany
611 comes to visit and is allowed two suitcases and her carry-on.
Is 611 the largest engine to ever run on Strasburg's tracks? It looks MASSIVE compared to old 89.

Anyone notice the conductor/engineer (idk which one) either puts his hands up or flicks off the camera at 6:34
THEY'RE ALIVE!! ;)
9:51 - did the diesels cross over?
So is she there now till October? Or go into hiding till the event? And when the event happens, will she just sit on display, or actually do runs back and forth?
No. 611 is on Strasburg as a participant, so it will haul SRR Trains!
2021 611 returns to strasburg railroad
Those wood ties are creaking with the 80,000+ lb. weight of N&W611... starts at 16:42
What's 611 doing at Strasburg? How long will it be there? Maye it can visit Scranton someday.
On the other cam of the steam engines when it approaches kids play on the tracks
I'll be there both
how many think Ditch Lights on a old steam loco would look odd?
I do but IF I had a steam loco I'd put them on both ends anyway
why do they run with NS locos in front of 611? is it for regulation? also will 611 run on the mainline?
I think it has to do with steam trains not having ptc
@@crudecaboose8382 dynamic breaks I believe.
611 has run on the main line before, she’ll do it again eventually.
611 being led around by a smelly diesel. Inconceivable!
It’s a long black train, coming down the line...
This is glorious!
What happened? Did 89 break down? Did 611? I noticed that it squealed and scraped a lot in that last few minutes. Was something sticking?
tm502010 it was just the track noise and wheel noise and they were just making sure she be ok when she was switching tracks
MUSE Riko Thanks!
FOR REAL??!?!?! HI 611
Nobody seems to fix the high notes on these Hancock 3 Chimes. Has anyone else noticed this. Like the Challenger's Hancock.
they should put the stripe on 475
I lived in Germany; it's like Pennsylvania.
Big boy is next.
Looks like they're doubleheading to me
16:48 Looks like he could use some oil.
Watching this is rather a religious experience, what?
