Thanks for the kind words Richard! See you on the next dig!!
Great coins and relics today. COOL Thankyou
❤❤❤ from the U.S. Your videos are amazing. Thank you.
Nice Round🤩
Josef from Germany
I like the detail on the small Scottish penny. Some great finds.
Many thanks, love getting a legible Scottish copper hammered
In the future treasure hunters will have to invent a plastic detector to find our lost items
Another great days detecting find after find digging up the past for us all to enjoy
that lead mount looks to me like a Garden Gnome sitting on a dog you can see
the Gnomes hat . Thanks for the videos 😀👍
Thanks Frank, I think it looks more like a jester riding a ram or sheep 🐑 but it’s still a mystery unsolved
Great day , always a fun time to watch
Thanks Marc…. See you on the next one!
Another great video as always John love the medallion and the spun well saved 👍
Many thanks. A very good day for all. Lots of good quality finds!!
So nice that you guys are having a good time. I like that lizzy hammered bro. Keep going and I hope you find the sovereign fellas!!
Many thanks James. Glad you enjoyed
Love the history.
Many thanks. See you on the next dig if it ever stops raining!!
👍Good day and glad your luck has change👍
Many thanks Eva
Bendy thumbs, that's my pattèr lol. Great day's detecting, well done! Love the knowledge bombs your dropping with the dates of the coins.
Many thanks and I’m glad you’re enjoying! See you on the next dig!
Hmm, that green item at 7:40 looks an awful lot like an old clog clasp to me. Great finds, and many nice history lessons along the way. Thank you :)
Jon I think you are right. It looked old and I think it is indeed a clog clasp… maybe 1600’s
Many thanks
Absolutely brilliant you’ve found more in a couple of hours than I’ve found in 10 months of detecting but still loving the hobby.
Excellent! Glad you’re enjoying and happy hunting!!
you lads are on fire with an other batch finds well done john
Thanks James. We’ve had some great stuff and wait until you see what Pete got today 🤩
36:00 I'd say a salt spoon. Mustard spoons normally have an oval wider bowl.
Thanks Tony. I think you’re right!!
The lead figure looks like a "Bokkenrijder" as we call them in the Netherlands. It"s loosely translated as "Buckrider". Duiring the Middle Ages it was believed that people who had a pact with de devil (witches and wizards) rode on the backs of bucks during the night. Late in the 18th century the name "Bokkenrijders" was given to a group of thieves and robbers between 1740 and 1798 in 'de Landen van Overmaas' and 'Graafschap Loon'
Thanks Saami for that amazing information, I’ll need to look it up. We get occasional finds from the Netherlands and we were trading with you often so it would make sense. Much appreciated
It looks to me a bit like an elf on a mantlepiece above a fireplace. Perhaps a Christmas ornament?
Got to give you props with that cartwheel, double bended thumb, and not dropping it. Keep up the great work. First episode to this one, you doing a fantastic job of it:
Thanks for the kind words James and I’m glad you’re enjoying!! Best wishes and see you on the next video!
Great finds 😊 my son is an Andrew😊
Yet again, one hell of a dig my mate 👌 👏. Keep those finds coming up, regards Kelvin 👍 😀.
Thanks Kelvin!! Yip this was a beauty and tough detecting with all those furrows and I’m sure more to come from this field once it’s ploughed flat!! Thanks for watching
Awesome
Thanks Jillian
Looovethat spoon too
If ever I’m on the million dollar question, and it’s about one of the King George’s, I owe u half a million lol
Family Crest perhaps? Looks like a second animal shielding the riders face maybe...
John, you should have brought Jura for a fun day with Lexi! What's more fun than rolling in the muddy fields of Perthshire! 🐶
Haha… don’t want her getting taught bad habits… like eating potatoes 🥔 😂
Great video.🇨🇦
Thanks Karen
I’ve got an epic new permission tomorrow!!! 🤩
I'm back too.Just to let you know how I find your videos. I've seen a few but I've noticed how good your filming is as in closeups. Also you share immense knowledge of the finds. And you love Scotland too. Pleasure to watch Thankyou !
Nice James 6th, and I think the St Andrews is a repro. Saw someone pull the exact same thing up with other day. Also with a hanging loop. Congrats on silver.
Damn. I had my suspicions. Looked like a hint of copper coming through and maybe silver plated
Good day! On to the gold!
Many thanks my friend
What a great day for you and the lads. Those Turners are outstanding, especially the one that shows some detail. That spoon is also very cool, I think it is a salt spoon, as salt was a bit of a rare item it was administered by small quantities by the wealthy, those of us who were below the salt weren't able to season our food (which were naught more than scraps that the Toffs didn't wish to eat). Well done, great finds.
Btw, do ever find any good tatties you can take home on those fields? I know I've seen some wee ones, which I love deep frying, they're quite tasty.
Thanks James. The potatoes are a bit green unfortunately so not saveable. But some of the underground ones are keepers but I’m too focused on the silver and gold haha 😂
See you on the next one James
You should be pickin those wee potatoes while you find the treasures. 🤣
Haha 😂
your inflo is brill john
Glad you like Alan and thanks for the kind words!
Great vids btw. Might be some old history with Wrath piggybacking wild boars. Possibly medieval. Great find
I’m thinking it’s pretty ancient. Others have suggested George slaying the dragon!
That lead figurine could be Eros riding a goat and possibly Roman!?!
That would be amazing! Further investigation required. I think it’s amazing and trust Pete to find the weird and wonderful! 😂
The lead piece, with the dude riding the sheep, is a decorative knob off of a Roman chariot…yep, sure is. Blessings from Tennessee.
You did a fine job this day. I was just wondering what ever came of your bronze age ax head you found bro? I remember the video but don't remember if you followed up much on it.
I haven’t done a follow up on it yet, but more to come on that soon hopefully!
A good days detecting, indeed. Some really interesting finds. Strange to find the 3rd of a thaler pendant. I hope it's real, for your sake. You probably know the US currency is named after the thaler. Great stuff. Bless up bro 👊
Holy medal
I think the little figure on the lead looked like a Jester playing a guitar. It was on a goat. I think y’all saw a horn. Would that not be Medieval? rI love your channel and I live in Texas. Thanks for the history on your finds!
Many thanks Karen. Glad you enjoy and welcome to the channel. It’s a really curious thing and I agree with you, surely medieval??
Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it. Could the item you thought was a ratchet type thing at 8 minutes in, actually be a clog clasp. These clasp range from 14th to 18th century. A wee google for info could answer my question. Thanks again and I look forward to your next video.
It does look quite old and you could be right!! That’s good news! 👞
What a fun day.. love seeing everyone out on the fields! Thanks for reposting the clip about Pete’s Scottish jester mutton buster lead totem 😂 The little spoon was a super fun find! Was it silver by any chance? See ya on the next ❤
Thanks Jennifer. Alas the spoon is copper alloy or brass or such like but I love it anyway!
The clock is most likely from a toy. I remember playing with a hand-down wooden garage (dated around 1930's) which had a glass-fronted clock on the front.
Much appreciated and thanks for the info
The item 42 minutes in is a toy pocket watch. Very unusual to find them with the glass face still intact.
Any idea on an age and thanks for the ID. It has a strange back for a wrist watch?
@@thescottishdetectorist this is made well before the wrist watch came in, its just a toy so not an exact copy of a pocket watch
I used to Know an Irish Guy.
He would often say, if feeling lucky.
" I am (or Your) on a Sheeps back.!"
Somehow that means you can kick back and Relax..!
Could that be the meaning of the little figure on a Sheeps Back..?
Long video this time notorious John on the
Road to redemption. A Hammered should
Do it or a silver ingot😜🔝❤️
Thanks Toni. I’ve got an epic permission tomorrow…. A Jacobean manor with extensive grounds. So I’ll hold you to a hammered silver 😂
👍👍👍👍💪
Twopenneth worth on the lead figure. Could be a clown or minstrel on a bear which was meant to represent circus characters in the days when bears were part of circus acts. Difficult to date I think, but lead toys were made right through 19th into 20th century.
Thanks for that info, That’s a new lead so I’ll need to look into that! Much appreciated
At 21 minutes the coin is a George III halfpenny, 1770 - 1775, it is so thin because it is a non regal counterfeit
Thanks for the kind words and great info!!
New video just uploaded! Spoiler alert 🚨 it’s my best days detecting in 24 years and I may cry a little 🤩 🥹🥹🥹
You found a horde! "they were in a straight line." "two points are only ever going to be in a straight line"
Haha 😂 you’re right you know 😆
The figure in lead appeared to me to be a man wearing a hat with a feather attached or the hat was some kind of cloth with a ball at the point, BUT he appearing to be holding (or playing) some type of stringed instrument.
Spoon for mint sauce.
Haha 😂 maybe
Just curious…how many examples of a coin do you keep? I have visions of jars & mugs overflowing scattered around your house😊
Charles II is the reason I am 1/4 Scottish here in the States.
Did your ancestors flee when he was returned in the 1660?
@@thescottishdetectorist Scottish POWs from the English Civil War. Hamilton/ Jackson/ Livingston (and a few others)
Them Scots really stuck together from 1651 until 1900 in my line!
The item with the clock face is a kids toy from 18th century ive had one and it took the Flo a while to figure it out but mine had no numbers just the same design as that
Thanks Dave. Quite an unusual find that’s for sure.
That coin looks like a william the third to me,i can see the band around his head, i forget what they call those wreaths around the heads
Thanks Alex. I agree with you ! Much appreciated
Aren’t they called the laurel wreath?
@@Chgdakini thank you, you’re correct and that’s where they came up with the saying don’t rest on your laurels 😀
Brilliant finds, quite a varied selection covering covering a few hundred years of history and not a button to be seen, glad to see your luck has changed. I shall be in Aberdeen next week for my daughter's wedding ( I am Irish of Scottish descent) . Your videos are brilliant and best of luck in the future.
Enjoy the wedding David and see you on the next dig!!
It's a wee nome on a sheep
It does look like a wee gnome doesn’t it
It's a cog clasp from the 18 to 19c not a rachet buckle ,hope this helps, love your vids , keep them coming 😁
Thanks Kaylee, I think you are correct!!
Thaler is the root word of Dollar.
Thanks Leon, I didn’t know that!
I really don't believe that is window glass,I mean unless I squint really, really, really hard I can't see anything through it.... Lol sorry I just had to point that out .
We call aluminum cans "can slaw" in the states
Haha 😂 haven’t heard that one before!
It looks like a jester on a goat playing a lute. 39:05
That little spoon to me looks like a religious thing. Used during baptism ritual in Catholic Churches. Could be wrong but it’s worth a research
Thanks Rita. I’m lead to believe it’s a salt or mustard spoon, but I’m not really sure
1700s pocketwatch
Demitasse spoon?
Santa on a reindeer?
I am a new subscriber and detector from America.
I wonder why you use such a short handled digging tool?
I use, what we call, a "trenching shovel". It is about 6 inches wide
and seems much easier to handle than your spade.
Just curious. Enjoy your show very much. Thank you for making the history come alive with the explaining.
Many thanks Robert and welcome to the channel.
I just like a small compact spade. Generally finds are in the top 6-8” and with all the recording equipment I carry I’m already laden down with stuff, so the shorter spade is also lighter and works better for me.
Why do you call them "Turners"?
Back then, a two penny piece went by two names: turner and a bodle. The first name a turner may come from ‘tournois’, the name of a French coin. The second is possibly after the Earl of Bothwell becoming bodle
Silly question, if the Romans lost supposedly 10,000 troops in Scotland why is there so many finds in sunny Perthshire North of Hadrian s wall 😂😂
A gnome riding a sheep.
Personally to me, it looks like a man sitting on a Camel holding a lamb over his shoulders.
Thanks Kerry. I’ve no idea for sure and it’s a really baffling find!!
Have a happy new year
Why you put on the thumbnail pictures of coins from Internet and not from your finds?
My camera is filming video the whole dig, so I can’t stop it to take a photo, so it’s easier just to take a ‘here’s what it would have looked like in mint condition’
@@thescottishdetectorist I think not, for me this is fake add.. 👎
@@thescottishdetectorist appreciate your free content and showing what items would look like. A clearly identified item photo is more use than some worn-out chunk.
Why dont you do more detecting stuff on TikTok? Is it not really good for that? I started posting videos but only get like 500 views then it stops getting any views at all 🤣 and jealous of the cartwheel penny Martin got.. my dream find here in New Zealand. I crossed off 1 bucket lister yesterday, a jews harp!! A brass one so mid 1800s
Hi Jake. I do the odd video on TikTok about metal detecting but tend to keep it purely for my tour guiding business, but when I do post I get good interest!! I’ll be doing one soon as it’s been a while
Did I hear you say that something of Marty's has a smooth backside. Naughty Naughty. :)
