  • My thoughts on the San Martin SN0023 - Initially I really liked this watch and bought it with high hopes, however after reviewing it I came across some design flaws, not so much from San Martin but perhaps on the watch they modelled it after. Anyway...check the review out and see if you agree!

    San Martin really missed an opportunity to fill a niche with the size of the watch. There are so many complaints about the 40mm PRX being too big and the 35mm PRX being too small. If they had made a 37-38mm version, they could have provided something that Tissot doesn't quite offer and deflect some of the criticisms about the price.

    Just a heads up ... the person who caused all the controversy a while back with channels getting deleted is back and targeting San Martin calling them 'fakes' ... Gary over at ILW got targeted again. Just a heads up.

      ... another channel has been deleted as a result of accusations by this person ... a certain Gaelic youtuber (four letters and begins with W and ends with K) is purportedly the culprit.

      That's the one with R4 in the middle isn't it mate?😉.I unsubbed from that dropkick as soon as I saw what he did to Gary and Jody and maybe other creators. It makes you wonder what's wrong with some people, I mean that blokes got 110 000+ subs, why would he expend so much energy going out of his way to be such a huge 🍆?🤔

    The thing I dont understand about SM is why create a dilemma for buyers? As per what you mention, the price point. There is so much exciting and beautiful watches out there to homage, that wont create a price dilemma. The VC 222, Overseas, Zenith Classic are good choices.

  • @watch-box

    Close but no cigar SM.
    38mm and/or more of a case downturn and this could have been a Tissot beater. As it is theyve copied not only the good from the original, but also the bad.
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    If the Tissot was way more expensive then I think this would have made more sense but as is, it's good value for what it is, but misses the whole point of the homage watch. Nice work as always mate

    This would have been a good one to feature the new 8315 movement. The same beat rate as the prx and having almost the same power reserve.

  • @troydogga6432

    The dial clarity looks better than PRX and that's about it, with the finishing they would have to go some to beat the PRX . Prices for San Martin's are getting ridiculous especially when i have picked up a PRX for £225 new.

    I have the PRX and I have a lot of homages this is cutting a fine line to me as a copy sorry to say good quality in some aspects but some QC issues only you and a few reviewers call out San Martin on which I for one appreciate ill keep my PRX thanks but great review and content this San Martin fan club on youtube really need looking into they make great watches but are in no way perfect and the prices are just getting silly but luckily the 3 i have from a few years back were at least good value watch before the hype took over.

    • @TheWatcherReviews
      @TheWatcherReviews  2 роки тому +2

      Yeh i totally agree, there definately is a san martin 'hype club' but if anything it makes me scrutinise SM alot more as their pricr hike is due to the hype club. So the issues and areas for improvement still need to be highlighted

    I know there are many people who appreciate caseback display. I'm not a fanatic about it. I even like in some cases well-crafted and decorated movements. I actually really like solid casebacks. Much. They give more robustness to the watches. More security. I appreciate it even more. So it makes a lot of sense for San Martin to make watches with these specifications, which are well related to the strong and durable character of the San Martins in general.

    I said this before on someone else's video, but I would honestly choose the SM over the Tissot if I were to get one of these. I don't care for the hobnail dial on the Powermatic version, plus the fact that you cannot regulate the movement yourself. I prefer the dials on the quartz versions, but a lot of people are saying the seconds hand completely misses the indices. I don't need another mediocre quartz watch, I'd rather have the 9015.

    • @stavros_katsopr
      @stavros_katsopr 2 роки тому +1

      Same as you, like more the plain dials of the quartz models. Think i saw someone taking off the seconds hand, wouldn't be (that...) bad for such a watch, i could live without it alright...

    • @grahamyoung622
      @grahamyoung622 2 роки тому

      Agreed! The 35mm dials are too small (even for small wristed blokes like me, although the bracelet fits better) and the 40mm wears way too large.DUH!!! Split the difference if you are going for the integrated bracelet (which I actually like), and make it articulate to fit better. NOT DIFFICULT!!!

    Great review mate, honestly. Guess the flaws stand for the OG too, as any other homage, it's not an "easy" case to start with, not to mention the bracelet that has to be well thought/designed/done. Would love to see some other dimensions from SM, who knows, maybe they will or some other brands jump in.
    Thanks Zeb,be well mate, cheers.

    • @TheWatcherReviews

  • @bobsumm1

    The watch itself is well done. An integrated bracelet needs to be near perfect in fit and finish. That is largely why you buy them. So that aspect is were this watch misses the mark. Looks great regardless.

  • @tonyd223

    There's a maturity in watch collecting - 20 or so watches in you are less wowed by the value, and are looking for more. This is not a watch I would buy as a Pagani for £100, never mind as a San Martin for £280. I want to be delighted again (Tsar Bomba for example) before I part with the money, and for £280, I think I'd rather buy an all metal GShock GM-B2100 in the rose gold...

    San Martin isn't just ahead of everyone on AliExpress... they're ahead of basically ALL watch companies that offer watches at anywhere close to their prices. Having said that, they're starting to be over-priced, only because the other Chinese AliExpress companies are catching up, or have caught up to SM.

    I hope they do a chrono version, I have the quartz prx in blue jusy worn once, its going on ebay as too small for wrist unfortunately. The new chrono version is bigger but at £1500 it's alot of money for a tissot

    Great review, nice looking watch and it fits your wrist better than I would have thought. However your comment regarding the wearability (esp. given the complete lack of movement or articulation of the first links) was the one big kicker for me. A slight 'miss' from san martin. Shame!

    • @TheWatcherReviews
      @TheWatcherReviews  2 роки тому

      Yeh it is a shame, however the 36mm prx from Tissot might wear alot better

    • @grahamyoung622
      @grahamyoung622 2 роки тому +1

      @@TheWatcherReviews Yes it definitely would, but the puny dial size is a bigger negative. Split the difference-make 38mm-would be a far better proposition. However, in my original comment, if SM had made the first link articulate, that would improve the wearability of the 40mm.

    No I would never get San Martin over TISSOT PRX. I just got the BB58 from San Martin and they sent me the wrong bracelet and they don’t want to do anything about my complaint. Not only San Martin but also Addiesdive etc almost all AliExpress watch makers are scum of the earth because there is no customer service. Once they got your money, that’s it. Never buy from AliExpress.

    • @grahamyoung622
      @grahamyoung622 2 роки тому

      You do need to be careful when buying San Martin's. There are a few 'sellers' (not only on Aliexpress) palming these watches off on the 'net. Not all are as 'customer focused' as they should be. I guess you'll only find that out (as you have) when something goes wrong. Aliexpress's disputes resolution is 'hit or miss' and difficult to navigate (?on purpose). There are some great sellers on Ali, as well as more than a few charlatans.
