Hello Kevin, thank you for the teaching. I've got stucked at the first one the Game Bar App it's telling me that 'No gaming functions available' and recording it's not possible. what to do?

Hi Kevin. This was one of the best tutorial videos that I have ever watched. Straight to the point with no beating around the bush with small talk. Definitely going to watch your other videos.well done. 😀😀
I needed a screen recorder for an online class I'm taking today, and I just googled it figuring it would be easier to find one, since almost every time I do that most websites share the same opinion on which ones are among the best, but not this time, every blog gave different options, and then I said well then a youtube video will do, again different options, and above all this one was the most simple and best, congratulations on this master piece, very helpful, thanks a lot. Keep it simple, since best things in life are simple and free.
I thought Flashback Express was a good option but after downloading it a two minute recording limit stopped me cold. I don't think I seen a video I wanted to record that was under 2 minutes. I think the OBS is pretty complicated for a non tech guy but I'm going to stick with it until I give up. Thanks for the options. Providing the links was very useful.
Kevin, thanks for this presentation, but there are some limitations at least on the one I selected after watching your video and downloading the software. Flashback Express 1. Limited to 720p resolution - 4K requires you buy the upgrade. 2. The desktop settings where you can disable the background etc to give it a tidy appearance don't seem to exist anymore. 3. Time limit for video I believe is 10 minutes max- Note I remember seeing this somewhere and a limited video recording is implied in the express-pro comparison. Maybe the people that sell the software saw your presentation and thought they'd detune the free version!
I used to love Apowersoft free, used it all the time, but the free version was recently altered so that previous advantages now appear to be only available via a hefty yearly subscription. I also think that OBS is a good free substitute. Thanks for this video tutorial Kevin.
Is there any software that I can use to record screen on the background so that I can do the other stuff using my computer? For example, I record the pre-recorded videos from my browser which I can't download it.
Great video. Tried a few, including two here, and OBS is for sure the way to go. I tried the Xbox app, but it stated it was "not available for Windows desktop or file explorer" and the record button is grayed out. I tried Zoom. It created errors when I started up my music software and tried to record, essentially that it was unable to record audio. I had heard of OBS before, but was hesitant to dive into it due to the potential learning curve. However, after watching your video, and trying a couple, I ultimately dove right in and am glad I did. It took me less than 3 minutes to figure it out. Initially, there was a problem capturing live audio once I launched my music software, but I was able to easily go into OBS settings and change the mic input, and voila, all is perfect. It is simple to launch, and use. Thanks so much. ☮
I used to like Apowersoft online screen recorder. I have been using it for the last year to record some of online courses I paid. It was easy to use, smooth, doesn't have limit, and it allowed me to cut off the beginning of the video, and adjust the ending of the video, so that the final product of the video looks much nicer. However, I just launched the online screen recorder again to record some online course. It has a new interface, difficult to use, and it wouldn't allow to edit anymore. And when I played the video, for some reason, it wouldn't allow me to advance. It seems that they add some restriction on playing the video. I don't like it anymore. That's why I'm searching for another easy-to-use screen recorder that brings me to your video. I'm considering to buy Apowersoft paid version software. However, it's trial version doesn't have editing ability for me to try out.
You're not the only one that isn't happy about it. I used to use it to record international versions of movies, and now I can't even do that anymore. I don't know what they were thinking
Cecilia - did you find something to replace it based on Kevin's video? I am taking an online course and need to record as well. I have quickly learned that online may not be for me... I need to listen again in order to get it. If you have a simple solution, please share. Thanks!
@@gawsss I bite the bullet got the lifetime version of ApowerRec. Have been using it for the past 10 months. Didn't regret. I used the software at least 10-15 times per month to record online courses. Very convenient, easy to use.

I simply wish to confirm what appears to be the most frequent comments made from viewers of this video. Your video provides excellent and full explanations and demonstrations which are easy to follow. All the information one could want is included without any extraneous commentary so that it is no challenge to watch for those with time constraints. I actually just happened to stumble upon your video and wanted to see it immediately because I have been experiencing a recurring problem with a screen recorder that I purchased and have enjoyed using for years before now. I am excited to try a couple of these recommendations and am confident I will find one that is to my liking. Thank you very much for the valuable information.
I have a dashcam that records video in a weird proprietary format. You can play the files, but you can't copy them unless you make a screen recording. This was helpful, thank you.
Thanks a lot for the tips. I use obs studio now for recording games (PC) and its really really nice, no time limit, no watermark, many options for file format/size/downscaling etc, super easy to use after youve done all the settings (took me only 5-10mins to get the hang of it). i just couldnt find an option to play a beep-sound when i start/stop recording, but thats okay. highly recommended!
Is there any software that I can use to record screen on the background so that I can do the other stuff using my computer? For example, I record the pre-recorded videos from my browser which I can't download it.

Thanks Kevin ! This is exactly what I was looking for. A simple crisp inclusive tour through screen-recording. Many thanks. I will try the inbuilt Xbox Game Bar first and then try them all till I find the best and easiest to operate while being busy with my Online Presentations.
yes, you CAN just record a portion of your screen on zoom. 1. Share screen 2. "advanced" tab and set the portion of the screen you want to share and record
Flashback Express seems to be different than this video in so far as it's telling me (I haven't made a video yet) that 1) my trial expires in 10 days and to buy the upgrade to 2) remove watermarks. I imagine had they done it this way back when you made the video then you would've excluded it as it doesn't meet your criteria.
Kevin your presentation skills are global leadership quality in matters of video messaging. Thank you for this - so compelling watched all the way through to understand that OBS is your go to screen capture software. Well done! Thank you.
I used OBS a few times but something seemed to change probably from an update and my computer was very sluggish and the mic was just not sounding good at all no matter what the mic setting were. So I tried some of your other suggestion and found ZOOM was ok but Flashback was even easier to use just for what I needed it to do. Thanks
I am now switching to OBS studio cause the screen recorder I have used didn't saved my important videos and it was all error and sh*t, but thanks for warning mate, I feel like if I learn with OBS and also will keep my pc optimised and at good level it will be good
Thanks Kevin! That was pretty awesome. I've been using Snagit, but half the time I lose the video after the recording (with the free version), so I'm over it and am looking for a new tool. You mentioned that you use other tools for editing and so forth along with OBS. I'd like to know what tools you use. Your videos are always so well done. Even if they're paid versions, I want to know how you're set up (what microphones, etc.) as I'm trying to set up my office to record training videos. Thanks!
Xbox game bar doesn't work if you are out of a game, and when you leave or arent in a game it just stops the recording and flashbang express only records your microphone if you dont pay for it and apowersoft DO HAVE A TIME LIMIT, you only have 1 MINUTE TO RECORD
Thanks for the suggestions Kevin. I found OBS to offer inferior audio quality and the lack of a pop-up window while recording was a dealbreaker for me. Apowersoft hotkey feature not available in the free version Flashback express free doesn't record pc audio. So, I will work with XBOX. Thanks again for your help!

I have a question though: is it at all possible to record a webinar in a browser window (in pure listening mode) while I use the same Windows laptop for my Teams virtual meetings simultaneously and not have the sounds jumble up together?
@kevin This is an excellent video and I sort of thought you'd land on OBS. Question though: you mention needing additional tools for annotation and marking to use with OBS. Do you have a list of ones you use in conjunction with OBS? Thanks!
hey! you can easily fix this if you look up some tutorials on youtube! if your game is smooth, but the recording isn't, then try running OBS studio in Administrator mode and try again!
Hi Kevin, I was wondering if OBS could show an overlay while recording that shows a border around the part of the screen that you capture? I'd like to see it so I know what is in the frame and what isn't.
Great video as always. I am thinking of changing my recording tool to OBS. In one of your other videos, you recommend some cursor highlighting tools. To you also have a hint for the "best" annotation tool for drawing circles, arrows, frames etc. in different colors during recording (and making this annotations vanish e. g. by clicking ESC) - and recorded by OBS as well?

Thank you so much for this
Hi Kevin,
I was wondering if OBS could show an overlay while recording that shows a border around the part of the screen that you capture? I'd like to see it so I know what is in the frame and what isn't.
I dont think you can but you can adjust it in editing
it does
Great video as always.
I didn't know this feature of the Xbox Game Bar, thank you
