It always blows me away how much all of this is like playing outside as a child. All of these instincts, the love for building fire, shaping things from clay, digging in the ground, building huts... all that is still there, but we almost never use it as adults
As you get older, the body has become more subject to wear, the fastest regenerating parts of your body, the insides of your mouth, minus teeth and other bones, are pretty close to the slowest, your brain, which braincelles live for about 70-75 years when not being killed outside of age, and reproduce in their last quarter. The knowledge will be there for a long time, but your joints and muscles ache sooner and you lose energy faster (larger body to support, too). So for most, it's just getting tired and lazy so we build what will last the longest with least repair we can afford, though also wanting easthetics (ie. a house with wood panneling over a concret box).
there is a theory that each human goes through all the main stages of history at the stages of his life, 1) your infancy 0-4 years old you really do not remember that period, just like we can not remember the history of people before stone tools and wheels, all you know is that you built yourself up in that stage and now you are there, able to move, talk, and make some decisions. 2) early childhood, this is the time you play with mud and sticks, your instincts drive you to go explore everything you see, you want to know more about animals and see what you can keep as pets, you are basically a stone age person. 3) intermediate childhood, in this time you start have aspirations, you begin to know what you want in life, you start focusing on idols and praising them, you are now competitive and could fight other kids to prove your'e the strongest, you are basically the person in early civilizations like Babylonians and ancient Egyptians. 4) late childhood and early teenage years are basically your progress from focusing on power, to focusing on popularity, you want to party and make friends, this is the era similar to most (cool) history we learn of, from Spartans to Persians, to Phoenicians to Romans etc.... 5) mid and late teenage years, you cool down a bit while some kids are aggressive, those kids have failed the history lessons and are living in their dark ages (mental illnesses), while you are in your'e living your intermediate period like the byzantine and the ottomans. 6) early adulthood is the time you stop caring for most adventure, and start caring for money, you are now a modern human being (enlightenment age to current day) as you grow older you can see hat you become more tolerant and wise, those who fail in gaining money develop mental illnesses like depression, so you can tell that the future age is more tolerant than today.
Belal Abu Sultan : You have a very interesting take on things, although I question your depiction of mental illness. Even those who are quite successful at gaining money and pursuing goals can still be affected by it. Mental illness is not caused by some failure to mature or grow as a person, but by physiological issues such as hormonal imbalances, misfiring synapses, traumatic injury, exposure to chemicals at some point in your life (i.e., lead, mercury, chemical spill into the water supply), or an episode of severe illness. Sometimes a particularly intense psychological experience can alter the brain's workings enough to have long-term consequences. But given access to the proper healthcare (therapy and/or medication), most (although certainly not all) people living with mental illness can lead fairly full, accomplished lives.

Pey Tron I don't think every dad wants his son to build primitive wattle huts. There are billions of things out in the world to do, and I doubt every dad wants their son to "be a man" so to speak and build structures...
BadMannerKorea Survival knowledge may one day save your life. Some things dad's teach you or encourage you to learn may or may not be useful later, but it's a great way to build character.
The only thing in the above video I'd want my son to be able to do is to build a fire. If he can build a fire then you can literally hide under a tree with the fire nearby and you'll survive. You don't need to build a hut like that, so the argument "for survival" is kind of moot. In todays world, knowing how to change a tire, drive manual transmission, perform CPR, handle interviews, knowing how to swim, money management, and the ability to use current technology are all superior in terms of survival compared to everything performed in the above video (except as I said, building a fire).
This is honestly more impressive than seeing a regular house build. This was made from materials in nature and his own two hands. No machinery whatsoever. It's pretty cool.
At first when you started breaking the wall to make space for the fireplace, I was like "Why would he do that??" but then I was amazed by how cozy the hut became with the new addition.
You are so fascinating.... showing how "easy" to life without any new technologies if you know what to do.....please keep on showing us how to survive if last idiots destroy our world. Please keep on showing us, like life has begun and how life will end in future. You are one of very few people who got my full respect and i cant wait each day to see more new things about you... ***** It's a comment on his immense ability to achieve survival under even the most primitive circumstances, not necessarily saying that he will default to primitive nature in times of trouble.
If there was an apocalypse many of his skills would still be useful and even if none of his prelearned skills were useful his mental capacity would allow him to take surrounding materials and create a solution. Best case scenario we predict the apocolypse decide to send people into space looking for a new home and to save room for people they send him to help build shelter and such on the new planet
Counting on another is risky...You should learn for yourself and be ready to use the knowledge by knowing your area of choice and being in possession of a bug out bag with certain gear in it. Seeds for example, water purifier kit, etc...
is it wrong I watched every second of this like it was a survival tutorial? If I'm ever trapped in the woods, This'll be on my list right behind a lean-to and food for the first few days.
Metanoia Labs I was referencing a game called "The Forest" which is prefaced with your character surviving a plane crash. I highly recommend googling it.
If I was lost in a forest, this would be the best guy to be with, he is so good at building stuff, I wouldn’t be surprised if this house still stands to this day
It doesn't, it was dismantled in the "Primitive Technology: Planting Cassava and Yams" titled video, ~2 years after this video. Given the state it was in, It seems it takes quite a bit of maintenance to keep it in shape, what with the monsoons and stuff (though I have little idea about the weather there). The chimney is just mud or clay, so rain did a number on that. And the roof, oh, I don't wanna be fixing that. It's just leaves. Organic material. In rainy environment. It wont be a long time till you need to replace it in full, and that's, like, 40% of the work of making a hut like this in the first place.
+Matthew Calderón When he knocked on that fired pot I really liked the ring it gave off. That tells me it is nice and hard/solid! I would have thought that it should have been dried some before firing to prevent cracks but I guess not!
+Will yam Dysinger if you notice it was dry before he fired it. It needs to be completely free of moisture or it will explode from expansion. I took 4 years of sculpture in high school as a reference.
There are ads now! Well I hope it's him doing that, he certainly deserves to get paid. But it would sure be lame if it was just UA-cam making money off of him without paying him.
I decided to rewatch this video and it's the first time I've noticed an ad on one of your videos, it's good to know that you're finally getting paid for all your hard work, keep it up
I absolutely CANNOT wait to try this as soon as the summer starts. I have a huge forest accessible through my backyard that is simply asking for me to make this
The final result actually looks really good considering what it's made of! I actually wanna build one of these myself. I'd feel smart about something. Like, how to survive in the wild.

You are the son every dad wants
Pey Tron I don't think every dad wants his son to build primitive wattle huts. There are billions of things out in the world to do, and I doubt every dad wants their son to "be a man" so to speak and build structures...
BadMannerKorea Survival knowledge may one day save your life. Some things dad's teach you or encourage you to learn may or may not be useful later, but it's a great way to build character.
Pey Tron True, but a typical dad would say, "Put on some shoes, boy. You'll step on a rusty nail and get lockjaw."
I can just imagine someone walking through here and seeing these huts and say
Well would ya look at that
Suki ???? there used to be some mud huts at a nature part I went to a lot when I was little but some dumb little pricks decided to burn them down
Neon Claw angel dragon oi
Suki ???? Suki? is that you
It's a well-known fact that mud does indeed catch fire.
just look at it
This is honestly more impressive than seeing a regular house build. This was made from materials in nature and his own two hands. No machinery whatsoever. It's pretty cool.
At first when you started breaking the wall to make space for the fireplace, I was like "Why would he do that??" but then I was amazed by how cozy the hut became with the new addition.
+Erick Carty I first thought he`s building a toilet bowl :).
+TheUglydandy "And now we will make a sewer system out of hollowed trees"

In honor of the first new post in two years, time to binge watch them all again.

No, he's in charge of everything. He's way better than anybody's else on the show.
Only 10000 B.C. kids will remember doing this growing up.

This guy will survive the apocalypse.
Darek Khort and I'm his number 1 bitch
Darek Khort Who wants to survive the apocalypse?
Darek Khort Except a few cases:
- meteor impact
- supervolcano eruption
***** It's a comment on his immense ability to achieve survival under even the most primitive circumstances, not necessarily saying that he will default to primitive nature in times of trouble.
If there was an apocalypse many of his skills would still be useful and even if none of his prelearned skills were useful his mental capacity would allow him to take surrounding materials and create a solution. Best case scenario we predict the apocolypse decide to send people into space looking for a new home and to save room for people they send him to help build shelter and such on the new planet
If civilization collapses you can always count on this guy to teach you the ropes.
and how to make said ropes!

Counting on another is risky...You should learn for yourself and be ready to use the knowledge by knowing your area of choice and being in possession of a bug out bag with certain gear in it. Seeds for example, water purifier kit, etc...

How does the mud not fall off in a storm
is it wrong I watched every second of this like it was a survival tutorial? If I'm ever trapped in the woods, This'll be on my list right behind a lean-to and food for the first few days.
It took him 30 days to build. In a survival situation you want something to be as easy and quick as possible.
Daily Cup of Justin Very true. This would be a long term solution for more comfortable shelter once immediate survival needs were met.
Metanoia Labs inb4; The Forest XD
Metanoia Labs I was referencing a game called "The Forest" which is prefaced with your character surviving a plane crash. I highly recommend googling it.
breezebro challenge accepted
If I was lost in a forest, this would be the best guy to be with, he is so good at building stuff, I wouldn’t be surprised if this house still stands to this day
It probably does with how well he made it.
Well, these types of huts last about 10 years, so it very likely could! It’s nearing that year tho lol
Rest in peace wattle and daub hut... You will forever be in our hearts.
Parthenes amen
Parthenes wattle and dab hut
What's great is that fireplace is gonna cook itself into a material like the pottery.
The fireplace will get hard but that's not really a bad thing
it is pottery
+Matthew Calderón When he knocked on that fired pot I really liked the ring it gave off. That tells me it is nice and hard/solid! I would have thought that it should have been dried some before firing to prevent cracks but I guess not!
+Will yam Dysinger if you notice it was dry before he fired it. It needs to be completely free of moisture or it will explode from expansion. I took 4 years of sculpture in high school as a reference.
I didn't take any classes but I knew it had to be dry!
