What a great video Andy! Every time I go a fitting, it turns into a long drive competition against myself ....and it's worse indoors
I have been a great customer set after set ,next time I'll try your system thanks

I am going in for a custom fitting tomorrow. I'm so glad I came across this video first, I'm sure I will struggle to not compete with myself but I will try to take this recommendation with me and improve the fitting experience. Thx Andy

Very interesting Andy. I'm sure that we all go to the range and our swing changes from the one we use out on the course. I like very much the fact that your custom fitter (Mike) was able to go out with you to witness/confirm that the time spent with you on the range was well spent and that the changes he suggested actually helped you. For the "ordinary Joe" though this level of service is probably not available.

As ever Andy you make a great point and that is why I never go to Fitting Days where EVERYONE is trying to hit the ball as fast as they can. In an individual fitting where it's just you and the fitter the adrenaline and testosterone aren't as disruptive.
For me the main problem with Fittings and particularly Driver fittings is fatigue. These days after approx 20 warmed-up driver swings I start to get. So it's crucial that I make each swing count before my swing speed starts to tails off.

I did the exact same thing in a recent driver fitting. Over the 60 shots of the fitting it became clear that when I used my on course tempo the ball went further and with less dispersion. It’s boosted my on course confidence so much

  • @prezzzrock

I did the same thing. My fitter didn't use swing speed in the fitting. He ignored it completely. He said speed speed isn't important. It's more how you load the shaft, how much spin, and launch angle. My swing speed was a "stiff" shaft. But my swing transition and shaft loading was more regular shaft. Glad I did this because that philosophy was spot on!! Swing speed isn't the most important factor in shaft choice.

I agree andy, I was forced recently during a custom fit to hit the hardest I could. Whilst in these condition it was ok, but when I get to the fair way it doesn’t work as well for me. I was being fitted for G430 and whist everyone is raving about them I could hit them well at max speed.

It has been my practice for a while to do just that, I have slowed my swing to focus on club face at impact

  • @TeddyCavachon
    @TeddyCavachon Рік тому

I was consistently hitting toe deep with my standard loft irons so I got a set with +2° lie angle only to have the same problem. That’s how I realized the root cause of the problem was my static set-up posture which was allowing the “dynamic” swing force changes in the downswing to pull me off balance on my toes through impact without ever realizing it because of the way the subconscious brain figures out a way to stay in balance. When swinging a heavy mass on a stick around the body the subconscious brain will try to steer it to a place where it isn’t causing imbalance, which isn’t the ideal path to deliver club face to ball consistently.
Once I was aware what my problem was I revisited Ben Hogan’s drill in which you start with 1/4 swing shot with a 7 iron, from takeaway to finish extension, with goal of consistently hitting those clips dead straight then gradually increasing the swing arc to increase the swing force variable. Sure enough I discovered as I increased the variable of swing arc and force I began to be pulled off balance. It was simply a matter of correcting posture and learning to keep “dynamic” tension in the legs to anticipate and counter the force pulling forward by pushing back an equal amount.
The net effect of that “club pulls / legs push back” dynamic is the body stays in the same place over the feet in perfect balance. Because the force increases faster than the brain can react when the club swings around the hands and accelerates (which increases force exponentially) you need to learn to proactively prepare and start counter the force with the legs before it increases.
One of the keys for learning the timing for doing that is using the index finger of the trail hand on the shaft for feedback on when the club head is starting to transition from pulling the wrists back in radial deviation to accelerating around the hands. When the pressure on the index finger held on the side of the grip like on the trigger of a gun starts to decrease the legs need to prepare to counter and balance the pull of the club which is about to occur.
Once I fixed my balance problem on the mats at the range I found I didn’t need the added up lie angle on the clubs and was better able to judge and anticipate being pulled off balance on uneven lies. Its worth noting I was playing every day (weather permitting) when I was doing this but it took about two months to groove the new subconscious reflexes.

I’ve found my swing actually speeds up on the course and it’s slower on the range. Adrenaline gets going. Especially when the heart rate rises we move faster. I do a combo of smooth swings in fitting and really go after it a few times to simulate that on course scenario and see how that impacts spin, ball speed, and flight.

6 years ago I made a mistake I will never make again. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I do not play winter golf due to the rain and very soft conditions. I got club fitted at the start of the golf season when my swing was "rusty". A few months later, when my swing was more normal, I realized my new clubs were no longer appropriate. Having new and shiny clubs to start the golf season is exciting...... but waiting until getting fitted and knowing you purchased the right set of clubs is much more satisfying.

  • @KevinORourke25

I've said this before and I get roasted for it but here goes. I firmly believe that for the "average golfer", custom fitting renders very little return on the investment. I was in the tennis industry for years and the one thing we had to do is come up with different revenue streams each year. The oversized racquet, the tear drop shaped racquet, the Blackburne tennis racquet strung on both sides, all were an attempt to convince people to buy. I've been playing golf for a long time and I don't believe that custom fitting will improve your game significantly. Spend the money on lessons and you may see better overall results.

I’ve had a couple of custom fits in the last couple of years…..and you are on the clock ……I never felt like the final product was that great!
One of the fittings was at a place often touted as having the best fitters in the business…….$150 for an iron fitting and was only able to hit a 6 iron!
I watch quite a few Utube vloggers talk about hitting the clubs inside a studio and also hitting them on a golf course when going for a fitting. That is a myth……..nobody offers that in a fitting!
