    Thanks for the video Shane, I couldn't find the instruction sheet for mine so I took a chance that you had the torque spec's, I had to take mine apart to replace the rotor.

    Scrap that auto tensioner and go with a Baker or Hayden. When you need to have the bearings replaced because the tensioner gets too tight and pulls on the trans.shaft and the crank bearings you'll wish you did your homework on that one..

    I think this is the tensioner that puts excessive load on the crank and trans shafts making them explode...

      @finley614 6 років тому +1

      AboutMy FathersBusiness yep this is the one. My 08 Ultra had this exact one and cost me more than it was worth. I ended up going with a Baker Attitude manual adjuster but the automatic tensioner like in this video destroyed my clutch hub and bearings , Compensator ( i ended buying a Baker Compensator also) automatic tensioner definitely not worth the trouble

    • @aboutmyfathersbusiness8324
      @aboutmyfathersbusiness8324 6 років тому +1

      Apparently the problem is when the chain is cold it loosens and ratchets up. When it gets hot it expands and tightens down, pulls and wears. A vicious cycle. Some have been blessed that the tensioner malfunctions and fails to tighten.

      Hi Ray....We grabbed Shane quick and he suggested to call Hayden Enterprises as an option and he found this link: haydensm6.com/m6_bt17-M8.htm Please join the channel to support him for videos and helping with options. He also said to have you look at this forum too: www.bigdogbiker.com/threads/hyden-m-6.11694/
      That’s a great question for Shane directly! We are just the social media team. Shane does answer questions when he get's back around to non members eventually so hang tight, FYI >>>> he does member ones daily!
      He just returned from overseas training techs and his inbox is slammed with requests. He is scheduling time each day again to answer techline orders. He does not have the bandwidth to provide free email replies as his schedule is full with shop customers, training schedules, and one on ones.
      There's good news though! Shane has 2 solutions for you. One is a deep dive one-on-one with him with video, email and phone support. The other is a "quick fan support" option when it's a quick answer and just helps support the time for him to stop wrenching or training and get you in the direction that a free video had you close. Links to each are below. Hope this message makes sense to you as a decent human being that also works for a living and gets it!

    Has anyone designed a set of toothed wheels to replace the friction shoe in one of these tensioners. Surely a set of toothed jocky wheels would be more reliable and efficient. Is there an engineering reason why this has not be done?

  • @200xcBruce

    Isn't this one of the known failure points with Harley for years and the pieces get into the oil screen starving oil to top end, causing a cam galling failure?

    Going from a manual to a ratcheting auto is a step backwards. They never stop tightening and can cause accelerated wear of bearings. Better auto solution would be a Hayden tensioner.

    • @How2Wrench

  • @1995dresser
    @1995dresser 4 роки тому +1

    I think I will go with the Hayden after listening to doc Harley. even say if you accelerate hard and let off there is a possibility that this tensioner will make the chain as tight as a banjo. and to check it he said remove the derby cover and stick a screwdriver in and check the slack . if there is none which happens you have to remove the side cover and readjust the tensioner . Kind of defeats the purpose of a self adjuster

    Do not use this if you have a manual adjuster. Mine has 50K on it and I have only moved it one time up one notch. Once the links groove in, the rollers roll. All wear stops. Don't worry about that little bit of plastic. There is a bunch of fine metal and a little amount of clutch dust in there anyway. If you do your own oils, a primary and transmission dump really makes sense when you do engine since they do not have filters and it's less then two quarts of Harley Formula +. Nothing better since it is a gear oil with no EP or detergents designed for the clutch and no filter system.
