    Thank you for the excellent video. As an owner of vintage gold, gold-filled and gold plated watches, and fountain pens, watching you use the metal tool on the screen to case-edge interface made me concerned about damaging the very thin gold plating used along the top edge of the rare plated case. I would try to use a plastic tool, if possible, to minimize removal of the 10 to 20 micron gold plating on the vulnerable edge-damage which can be obvious when light hits the device from certain angles.

    Hey brother. I don’t need my battery replaced but it’s sad to think that it’s so hard to do. I remember my Galaxy S3 that could literally have its back removed and battery replaced in 30 seconds. I wish iPhone came out with a phone that wasn’t hard to get into. I currently have a 12 pro max (5 months owned) and the battery health is still 100%. I know it will degrade in the next year.

      @OGHEADSHOTCODM decent 12 pro max battery usually costs around $30, as for the iPad, I generally don’t see stuck on apple logo being a battery. At least for me it’s pretty easy to rule out as I have a dc power supply. So I can hook up directly to the battery terminals to inject voltage compared to having to go all the way through a battery replacement ( that model is a pain in the ass to swap the battery)

    Thank you for the detailed videos, they have been very helpful. When I removed the screen I was extra careful, maybe too careful and the screen came off in two pieces. One piece is the screen with the connector and the other is the bracket with the metal connectors and the cameras at the top. The screen will not turn on now after I reconnected everything. I dont see anything damaged on the screen. I was wondering if you know of a service that can repair the screen? I am planning on buying the less expensive LCD screen for about $200 to hold me over until I can find somewhere that might be able to repair the screen. Thank you for your help!

      I think I am just going to take it into apple and pay the $600 to have them swap it out with a new one. I cant seem to find anything about how to troubleshoot what is causing it to restart, assuming it is something to do with the motherboard. Rebooting every few minutes sounds like a panic report issues, it’s possible that either the charging port or power flex is bad.
      It’s also possible something else is damaged but without seeing your phone in person it’s difficult to diagnose. If you want to send it to me I’d be happy to look at it

      I didn’t bother because I know that the vast majority of people won’t bother with that. Even if I did there’s no guarantee the device will be water resistant. The 12 series and newer are a bitch to remove the old gasket. I’d be surprised if devices leaving Apple stores were actually ip68

    Best to use a suction cup before you put your pry tool in, as you put the pry tool in the wrong place then your screen is gone , hot plate is also good if you do this regularly

    • @repaironwheels
      @repaironwheels  3 роки тому

      I’ve tried a suction cup with little success, I assume because of how stiff the perimeter gasket is. Hot plate I completely agree with. the average person probably doesn’t have a hot plate which is why I normally stick to basic tools

    • @repaironwheels
      @repaironwheels  3 роки тому

      as for the pry tool, there is some danger of sticking in the wrong place, although in my experience as long its only inserted no more than 2-3mm you shouldn't have issues. the main issue in my experience comes from not using enough heat along the perimeter and/or moving your opening tool to fast which causes the glass or display to become damaged

      @@repaironwheels try one like Jerry’s one he uses in this video , the little ones that come with the screen sometimes are rubbish and you got no chance of doing it with them but the other ones are good , I have tried them myself and they work great , you only need it start off and after you hit the tool in then you don’t need it really , the hot plate I always use as with hot air gun, it’s hard to control the temperature and it will depend on the distance you are using from the screen to the hot air nozzle , if you get that wrong then the screen is gone , hot plates are really cheap and some are similar price to the hot air gun and actually cheaper than the brand you got

      Starting with the xr/xs series apple began pairing the board on the battery with the main logic board so you get the ‘can’t confirm genuine apple part’ or ‘unknow part’ message and with it the ability to easily check the % in settings
      You can still check your battery % through a program called coconut battery

      in some videos i do and some i dont. im going to make a video about it sooner or later. generally my approach is if the majority of the original gasket remained you are better off keeping it because all of the aftermarket gaskets are complete garbage. if you want to go the extra mile and order a gasket from apples self service that's the only time its worth removing the old gasket. also keep in mind in all of those scenarios your phone is still not water resistant

      After the device is opened it’s safe to say it’s no longer water resistant. Moving forward the only reason you would want to reinstall a screen gasket is to help keep dust out or to keep the screen from tapping against the frame. If there is enough of the original gasket remaining, I prefer to use that than aftermarket gaskets. If the gasket is mostly missing or falling apart that’s when I would replace it

I experienced that personally with an iPhone X screen swapped under warranty from Apple. The gasket was visibly sticking out so the phone couldn’t have been ip68 water resistant anymore. @@repaironwheels ok if you did that.. still you will be facing an issue with the battery or the battery message.. to prove this just swap the camera module of the same iphone models and then you will notice the issue what I am talking about I mean you end up messing of stuff if you still use the original items or swap the same items of the same iphone model!!!

      @@repaironwheels I liked the length of your video. I haven’t repaired or replaced anything newer than an 8 Plus. I’ve been nervous about the 12 pro and 12 pro max that we have several of now. Batteries are all about ready to need done.
      Thanks for the video and the pro tip! I have never used isopropyl alcohol before! I always have 90% in the house. That’s going to be a huge time and frustration saver!!

      Thank for you for the kind words of encouragement. The 12 series are that bad once you get inside. It’s getting the oled off without damaging it (especially in scenarios where you need to reuse the screen like batteries or charging ports). Once again isopropyl 91%+ to the rescue. Check out a video I did about that, hopefully it helps out

    Too much minute work and needs the right tools. If I buy the li-on battery myself, minimum cost $30. Apple charge $90 to do the job, you judge which is better. You do it yourself, risk to damage the costly handset.

    • @repaironwheels
      @repaironwheels  Рік тому +1

      Off the top of my head there are a few reasons someone might want to DIY this:
      1) there are a handful of scenarios where Apple will deny a battery replacement so DIY is your only option
      2) you live in the middle of nowhere and Apple is a several hour drive. I go snowboarding in mammoth lakes near Yosemite National park and the nearest Apple is 3 hours one way
      3) you don’t want to part with your phone to mail it into Apple

    • @repaironwheels
      @repaironwheels  Рік тому

      That being said, if there’s an Apple close to you I think the extra few $s to avoid the liability of damaging your screen and everything else that comes along with the repair is well worth the money spent
