For a guy like you who has lot of systems am actually glad that you got that Calpha one feature that I like is that you can run lots on battery mode and it will go to line mode when batteries are low once solar has recharged them it will go back to battery mode seamlessly

I am liking my first venture into the all in one's. Seems like that's where things are going these days in a pretty big way. Aloha!🤙

    Very nice Bob!
I have been using a Growatt 3000 24volt, 3 kw at 30 amp output, now for the past 3 years. Being off grid myself for 23 years I started out much like yourself with a pieced out setup. The Growatt, like your calpha, took me some time to setup and get used to. Along with a few calls to the folks I purchased it from, has been working flawless as I’m sure yours will be also 👍
Thank you for your valuable input, insight and occasional chuckle 👍
You bring it home and make it real.

I've had mine for about 3 years, mine is rebranded as Renogy though. I've seen it under several different brand names. It has been absolutely flawless! I have 18x 100W Renogy panels hooked to mine (6s3p) with a single Chins 48V 100AH Lifepo4 battery.

Good to learn new stuff. Thanks for showing us 48v system stuff. Kind of the next level for me. I have a simple 12v system and I know there are some efficiencies to gain by going 48v. Fun to watch the journey!

I saw on the output 50hz, should be 60hz correct. Just read it a few times and it will come to you. Also mount that unit to some fireproof cement board and that heat gun reads 11.9 amps, that 50hz you see is the frequency which you must change to 60hz(cycles per second)

Will check all settings again tomorrow. I thought I had it at 60hz, but maybe not set, or saved. Aloha!🤙

You have a new Play Pretty. Looks great. You could hook up some night lighting along the path between the Bongalowa and House. Even around both buildings. No more flash light.

I was iniatially against the All in ones. Now I wouldn't want to be without it. I have the 24 volt version hooked up to grid power. With these units you do not have to constantly monitor battery voltage. You use all available sun power before it automatically switches to the grid if the sun isn't out for long periods. However the settings can be a challange, took me 2 weeks and lots of learning to get the settings correct. These are cleaner and seem to be reliable. Keep the videos coming!

Calpha is made by SRNE who sells under various brands. Your unit looks exactly like the Renogy 48v 3500w all in one. They have good reputations for reliability. The general knock on the AIO's are they are noisy with their fans and the use a lot of power at idle. I use an MPP AIO for my off-grid system and while the noise is not an issue for me bc it is in my basement I did had to add two extra panels to help recharge my batteries. I still have to tinker with my settings as I'm sure they are the same as yours and looked the same from your manual. If you can get by with the noise I think you will love it. You are going to love the 48v. When I turn off the inverter the fans keep humming away with the MPPT when the suns up. It seems they run all the time and will run forever until you disconnect everything or have the inverter turned off at night..

That's good information my friend! I got frazzled on the programming. Back and forth more times than I can remember. Hook up was easy though. Fan so far is not that loud, but have not had great sun, or streesed it too hard yet. I will keep tinkering with it for sure! Aloha!🤙

Thank you for making this video Bob, it's a bit of a downer to see it in action though. All the settings :(
I see you have it on SLA now as Lifepo4 setting errors out? Looking forward to seeing if this will perform better after the learning curve, but honestly, I am not really impressed with it at all, I mean no WATS shown... I think I will stay with modular systems like you have, it is just easier to replace faulty parts if needed, when AIO has a fault everything is down. Glad you testing this for us, it is so appreciated what you do bro!

On the AC output make sure there is only one ground neutral bonding point

your gonna need the wifi module so you can set it up with a tablet ,,,,most of these combined units are very similar ,,very good when alot of power is comming in ,but in low power tiles the inverter portion is very hungry in standby power (70watt 24v),,so in the winter time i shut off the inverter side and only use the solerchargecontroller side and run a small inverter on the side,,i would recomennd a breaker for solar battery ,
also most of them works best with high voltage pv input
    regards from Denmark

looking great so far. with a all in 1 their is a lot of settings. lots or reading manual . looks like default settings for inverter is 50 HZ for most things that ok. but motors will run slow . so for north America we use 60 Hz . would be in inverter settings. you may be able to set temp settings to Fahrenheit . some will need C and 50 HZ . depending where they at. lots to go threw. many of them battery settings are for smart battery system. just keep them off for now. nothing for that to talk to. this would be great for like a off grid cabin or home.

Largest manual I have so far for any component I run. Tons of info for sure. I agree about much of the settings, I really don't need to worry about them. I spent a couple days trying to get everything set properly. Was a bit tiring. Should be a fine tool for the shop though huh? Mahalo for all the additional settings on hz...Aloha!🤙

I noticed when you were going through things it looks like you were still set at 50 Hz and not 60Hz, unless in HI they are using 50 Hz on AC but I doubt it.

50 amps heat gun, quite ruff on the juice ain't it😂 20:49 I'm joking, I know it was corrected later on. Who said it is easy getting our age?

Dang that user interface is painful! I don't think I would buy anything that didn't have a pc or Bluetooth/app interface for programming. Especially if it's as complex as a combination inverter, charge controller ect. I don't think a battery with communication would do anything make it easier
On a side note I have discovered how to use my two 48v 130ah golf cart batteries I got for free(faulty bms, wired in heltecs)in my 12volt off grid system without a new inverter!! I am using a surplus charge controller(victron 75/15)as a 48-12 converter 😂

If I can't keep it simple I won't buy it. I even stay away from some of the Victron stuff because it's too complicated.

  • @junkerzn7312
    @junkerzn7312 3 місяці тому +3

The Calpha... ouch. That's a very low-end product. The Calpha is basically a rebranded cookie-cutter all-in-one. I wouldn't expect much from it. The basic functions should work. I wouldn't bother trying to make comms work.... it will be the most reliable without any active comms.
You will probably have issues with its idle power draw and, depending on the load, fan noise, and weird inefficiencies and other oddnesses.
Discrete components, particularly discrete Victron components, are worlds and worlds higher quality.
(Do change that 50hz to 60hz. US AC power is 60hz. Also check the AC output voltage, it might be set incorrectly. You want it to be set to 115VAC or 120VAC or so).
