- Hi! ScaryCarpet here. Today we are doing the challenge ULTRA HARD.
Ultra Hard is one of the worst nightmare ever developed in a game. Its name is self explanatory. Enemies are thougher, you don't know where you're going or what you're doing. Basically you spend most of the time hoping to find a good game changing item. For example, this time it was Libra...
I wanted to make an how to video about this challenge but for the nature of it I found that very difficult. It's super random.
Libra sucks, we all know that. But I don't know why this time it did pay off very well. Mostly because every range up item I got, that in another situation would have been an immediatly eew, buffed all my stats. This will ever stop my hate for that item? Of course not!
The Wafer really saved the day. I don't think I would have beat ultra hard without it.
Not to mention all the Vis that gave their lives for this challenge ❤️
It wasn't a game breaking run, but it was fun...ish.
P.S.
You don't know that but during one of the attempts I lost to Mega Satan. With sacred heart. It was very painfull.

The worst part of this challenge was seeing Sinvicta get the Yum Heart on the first floor and win the challenge on the first try. I have never seen anyone complain so much about being unlucky, yet be so consistently lucky.

i had to stop watching him over a year ago due to his constant bitching
It was mostly his devil deal luck and getting curse of the lost almost every time he gets mapping items or cards. I remember that someone did the math and that he had disproportionately bad luck with devil deals.

The worst part of Ultra Hard is just wandering around aimlessly until the game decides to teleport you to where you're supposed to be going. It's not fun and pretty bad as far as challenge design goes

And even that didn't help all that much because of curse of the maze, constantly had to go back to a point of reference after every teleport

Depends on when You get it. If You're already low on HP, it's a blessing. If You are not, however, You are screwed.

@@Zerogi I meant in general. Though I didn't see Hematemesis pills in my attempt, so couldn't test that. It also sets Your HP to 1 heart, so using it on half a heart is still somewhat good.

I rememeber i hated libra because "Wtf.i had 4.50 attack and now it is just 4" restarted and go on my new run. But one time i decided to test it and oh my god. When you encounter only bullshit items that give you speed or range and this also boosts you damage. It is great item

My brother and I cheesed this challenge. I loaded in as P2 and played as Eden, who started with Salvation. We gambled on items, and I ended up getting Gnawed Leaf. I was pretty much statuesque the whole time, and the Mega Satan fight was hilarious because all I did was stand close to his face for the whole fight.
Imagining the person who made this video as a 50 year old man makes this fucking hilarious to me
I remember back in AB+ (most of my time is on the Switch version) on my winning run I got Placenta, which is by no means a winning item on its own but the fact its regen adds directly to your health goes a long way for Ultra Hard
Yeah, Placenta is a win item for Ultra Hard if you have enough patience

Do you have any tips for Chall #37 Bloody Mary? Maybe it's just a matter of getting good, but damn I suck a ton of ass in that challenge.
Nothing compared to Ultra Hard of course, but Bloody Mary was a real pain in the ass. I was lucky enough to find Old Bandage and Jar (to stock hearts). That worked for me.
Regarding the tips all I can say is try to look for health recovery items and play safe when you're in a new floor. Also try to refill al your hearth containers before leaving a floor to receive a bigger buff from Blood Oath.
Don't give up! There are a lot of items that can make your life easier in that challenge, you're going to make it one way or another :)

Ultra hard is super easy if you force a bookshelf floor 1 with satanic bible, pretty much a free win
Save File 1 (Ab+): pain
Save File 2 (Ab+): got mom's knife and satanic bible in on first floor didn't look back
Save File 3 (Rep): pain, and then for a run with pyromaniac. Able to heal up, and then got Kamikaze from the Crawlspace on Womb.
Luck > skill
Or maybe you're just more likely to get a run that's busted before you get a good enough run where your skill can take you the rest of the way.
That second save file blessing tho

Having done Ultra Hard 3 times, I can safely say that it is the worst challenge and your best strategy is to hold R until good items.
Yeah, exactly. My rules were:
1) see if the 2 treasure room's items are worth it
2) if they suck, try a 2 hearts devil deal
3)if there's nothing good there either, restart

i never understood the hate towards libra, it’s real good and was buffed a few updates ago so damage gets the most stat buffs when split

You can reset the exploding animation with some of the active items tho, like the candles for example

I remember when i struggled for 3 days to complete it on 2nd save file.
I beat it only because after Satan's fight there was a portal to Void and i got lucky to get many hearts there and a Delirium fight as last one (plus Delirium was much easier because this challenge runs in normal mode)

For me idk because Delirium vs mega satan it's an hard choice, but I think I'll always choose the latter. Maybe without night light next time 🤦🏻

Tbh i personally think seeing double is worse, because at least in this challenge you could get lucky and get a run-winning item from the start, or at least one that significantly nerfs the challenge. With seeing double you're always going to be stuck with the most tedious and annoying character(s) and double enemies, so while it's easier on paper it's just so much more painful.
Also shoutout to backasswards, i genuinely struggled much harder on that challenge than ultra hard because i kept getting screwed with the starting items.
Unpopular opinion: I don't hate that much Jacob & Esau.
I mean they're far from being my favourite character but I learn their pro and cons. So maybe this is why I didn't struggle much with seeing double.
For backasswads I just restart until I get a decent start and then tried with that
I find really cool to see so many different points of view about this game and its challenges tho :)
@@ScaryCarpet Cantripped after the latest update might also be up there for most annoying challenge. It's not hard by any stretch but only having active items is kind of a pain in the ass with how many actives are garbage, at least when you can only use them once.
Also the disappointment in knowing it used to actually be fun.

@@ScaryCarpet yeah, for whatever reason they made it so the cards only give active items in the latest update. I have absolutely no idea why, except maybe that Kilburn decided to be the fun police, which might be the case given all the other unnecessary nerfs in the update.
Get your Tainted Cain completion marks now (if you haven't already) before the update hits consoles.
