I wish I lived closer to you. I would use you for my heating and cooling needs. It’s refreshing to see someone who does high quality work, who is honest and only what needs to be done. Your sense of humor and little Molly are great. The videos are very informative. Twice in the past year my Carrier AC made a high pitched sound and was blowing warm are. I simply turned off the breaker and reset it. But I think the capacitor is on the way out.
That is exactly my setup, I have a simple thermostat for heat and I have two 10K window units that I put in, in June. If she gets the 10 or 12K units she should get a cart. I got a cart that's at the same height of my windows and it is so much easier rolling them and then moving to the window without bending over.
@eli2fly103 In this case, it was the controller or the valve. The pilot light is on. Hook up the stand-alone 24V transformer, and you'll know if the valve functions, fire. Just because you have 24V out of the controller doesn't prove the valve is good. Even if you didn't have 24V out, you could still eliminate the valve before a new controller is installed. I'm happy to have a thermocouple and two wires on my unit. Spare thermocouples hanging on the wall.

Why not make up a 24V transformer you can plug into an outlet, and you'll have a 24V power source to jump the gas valve to see if it functions.
If the controller is bad, you have to replace it anyway.
