- In this video we'll be taking a look at the exotic Stasis sidearm, Cryosthesia 77k in the Crucible of Destiny 2. This is a weapon that I have very limited experience with, and belongs to a weapon class that I'm not particularly fond of. So I'll run the numbers for it and see how it performs for me over the course of 5 games. Enjoy! 🍻

Fun Fact: Cryosthesia was the first Primary Stasis weapon added to the game. It was followed up by Peace Bond later in the season, but beat for first Stasis weapon by Salvation's Grip.
I was really surprised with how slowly the Stasis weapons rolled out after the subclass was introduced. I figured it would have been a fully fleshed out damage type with the launch of Beyond Light since a huge chunk of our weapons were just sunset. And then the one that we did get....well....at least Salvations Grip is in a better spot currently than it was on release! 😂👍

I like the gun in theory, but I think my big problem with it is that with most of the sidearms I use, I tend to go full aggressive with the weapon itself going for the kills, and the freeze being so brief for its alt shot means that when I try that, I end up losing out on fights I would have won with the sidearms I'm used to. I know that probably doesn't make sense given that it's basically "free damage" but I think the time an enemy is frozen gives them a bit of a chance to figure out their counterattack, when ordinarily the panic would let let me get a kill before they fully realized what was happening.
I definitely understand where you're coming from! I had my fair share of "oh shit" moments when an enemy unfroze a shade quicker than I was expecting! 😅 I was starting to see the weapons potential after playing around with it, but I'm fairly certain that I am not the right player to be trying to showcase it! 😂👍
Love to see some sidearm love! I am still a little ambivalent about Cryo, but I agree it is a potent weapon. Surprisingly I think shadebinder is actually NOT helping cryo out, since sidearms need mobility to thrive. As you found, where cryo would work your abilities can do the same job, if not better. I recommend trying on astrocyte verse or transversive icarus dash to break some ankles and let cryo shine 👍

Thanks a lot man! Stasis did seem like the "default" correct choice, but you make a really good point about it being a bit redundant with already having other ways to secure a freeze. I'll definitely give it a go on some other subclasses in the future! 👍🍻

I tend to run cryo with a sniper so that that I can freeze and kill instantly from any distance. I also like to swap to behemoth to get a diamond lance after killing the first frozen guy to get 2 freezes off one cryo kill.
That does sound quite handy! Securing kills on a longer range freeze was an issue, and a sniper would certainly solve that problem! 😂🍻

I appreciate the honesty and the benefit of the doubt. Here's my advice from personal experience.
Statistically, Cryosthesia is a monster, and it has a rare recoil pattern that behaves like Devil's Ruin. It has no muzzle flip, so its very accurate and your aim point doesn't get obscured like other sidearms. It has the stats to win its 1v1s handily. Do not trick yourself into thinking that every single freeze shot must always be cleaned up with Cryosthesia to keep chaining the LN2 freeze burst; you will certainly get another kill with it at an appropriate time. Use the freeze to your advantage and pick the right tool for the job -- sidearm, rifle, or fist. When you get the freeze shot loaded, you have 3 options available to you: A) Freeze in melee distance for an instant-kill beatdown; B) Freeze at close range for a Cryosthesia cleanup; C) Freeze down range and clean up with your energy primary. Reading your radar and planning out your attack ahead of time is crucial.
The thing with Cryosthesia is that you need to consider its LN2 freeze shot as a one-hit kill attack up close. You can play very aggressively with it, so move with confidence. Its freeze is hard for an enemy to predict, and comes out faster than many players can react to. Being able to freeze+beatdown an enemy with it means you can pretend its like a shotgun (or perhaps a rapid-fire fusion rifle) and rush an enemy for a freeze kill. This aggressive instant-kill threat is rare among sidearms, so take advantage of it. The other thing with Cryosthesia is that it iiiiis a Sidearm, and as that name suggests, you're right to use it as an offhand weapon together with something like the BXR. In a few of Ironworker's clips, he froze a target down a long hallway, then tried to take weak pistol shots past falloff. That right there is your opportunity to swap to the other primary and mop them up. By the time they thaw, they're already half dead and an easy cleanup as they panic jump, or try to pop class abilities. Bonus points if your BXR or etc has a post-kill perk of its own like Kill Clip.
Cryosthesia is a beast, and the Bungie devs like Mercules and Chris Proctor have both hinted that they believe its so strong that they hope players don't find out about it. 🍺😄
I really appreciate you sharing you're thoughtful and highly detailed perspective on Cryosthesia! There's some great advice and a lot to consider in there! My situational awareness with the weapon certainly was lacking, but it feels like the sky's the limit with this gun for an experienced user! 😁🍻

@@IronworkerGaming I don't think so. I think suros was that vote. I'd really like to know about it's healing factor and how important the catalyst really is. I've heard from 50% to 75% of the time for heals but I dont know. That was so long ago it could be totally wrong. It's alright though. Stasis if apparently getting quite the buff soon. Aztecross seem stoked about titans stasis the other day.
I was rooting for Suros! It's one of my all time favorite Destiny weapons! The 50% to 75% chance to start health regen was pretty accurate when I tested it out a few years back, and should still hold true. The Stasis tuning definitely looks interesting. I'm having trouble keeping track of all of the changes that we're going to be getting with Final Shape! 😂👍
@@IronworkerGaming totally agree. I've been trying to keep track of specifics like outbreak. I'm sure you've read the notes but, outbreak specifically is getting a +25% to red bars, +20% to orange bars, and +10% to bosses. Watched... hmm.... twitch something on UA-cam about outbreak with rewind rounds. Looks pretty ridiculous... like maybe a nerf next week to rewind rounds or maybe the nanites are procing something I don't know but he was hitting for over 10k a bullet out of outbreak on the ogre in avarice and over 1mil damage in 1 damage phase. Crazy.

Awesome video per usual, 1 note for if you decide to try the gun again use solar hunter with heavy throwing knives. After freezing someone the knife is much easier to lineup

I agree with you, Iron: Cryosthesia is fun and addictive. However, sometimes it doesnt work well with distance melees, like hammer or knife...

If you want a sidearm with range, I recommend the great Traveler’s chosen.
I was kind of surprised that Travelers Chosen didn't win when it popped up in the voting a few weeks back! Everyone that I see mention it speaks very highly of the gun! 👍👍
Personally… sidearms are largely hit or miss for me. It also depends on how many shotguns the other team has and the map.
Rat king is my favorite for PvP though. Catalyst helps it a ton. Invis hunter with Gemini jester
Overall I’m more of a mid-long ranged player though. Scouts, pulses, bows, etc
Too many shotguns certainly can spoil the fun!😂 I've always been a bit more comfortable keeping some space between me and the enemy as well, but given the fact I'm not a sidearm guy, I though things went ok with Cryosthesia. 👍👍

Try Cryosthesia with a grenade launcher. Worked wonders for me though it locks you into close range and aggressive rush downs

*insert various Mr. Freeze quotes* 🧊😁 Its an oddly balanced exotic in PvP. I've had some success using it with my Solar Warlock but I am an odd duck.
