Hey Josh, I just got a vario jacket and absolutely love it. I noticed that if I slightly slouch though, that the middle of the jacket (where the zipper threads are) sort of bunches up the extra fabric and looks funny. Did you have the same experience? Maybe I just got a funky product?
I think I’m following what you mean. This hasn’t really been an issue for me but it’s probably bunching/laying that way due to the athletic cut and the insulation style without any baffling. It’ll do this a bit for me when sitting but I’ve never noticed it while standing. If it lays flat some of the time it’s probably not a product issue but if you’re unsure I’d shoot an email over to OV, their team is extremely informed and helpful in my experience.
Thank you! So disappointed I had to bail on the trip, my cat had an eye injury and needed surgery. Half a dozen vet trips later he’s doing well though luckily, definitely in for next year!
@@joshfenn yeah i heard, as a big cat lover myself, i am happy to hear! I hope there is another next year, I'll actually talk to eric about that, see what he says, maybe you JUST sparked that idea just now! :D
We go wither to Higgins Lake or The Au Sable River; moved here about 8 years ago but the winters are a killer. I wear the Pendleton Board shirts as a base layer and they work great.
I’ll have to check those out sometime! Love all of the Pendleton options, being in Portland we’ve got a regular store and outlet nearby us to see everything in person too
Re the Unbound Merino hoodie, I spend chunks of the year in that piece, I actually have two which I rotate. Perfect for the cold mornings here in Northern California about 50% of the year and comfortable enough to wear on anything but a truly warm day. Also excellent when traveling
This is so good to know. I’ve heard a ton of great things about the ABC pants, these are much more my style so I’m glad to hear I’m not missing out. Seriously impressed with the rovers, never thought anyone could make canvas pants this comfortable.
Nice selections. After an earlier video I tried the Du/Er pants and I’m hooked. I now own three pair. They are incredibly comfortable and can be worn several times before washing if you don’t get them too sweaty. Thanks for the recommendation.
I don't understand the tRaVeL cLoThInG genre. Like, just buy good quality, good looking clothes and wear them all the time, regardless of if you're home, away or somewhere in between. IDK. Doesn't compute with me. I understand it's a whole million dollar market within apparel but it is just weird to me.
It’s because merino wool can be worn for days without stinking and is great for just packing a couple of clothes to last a long trip(mainly useful for one bag travel) but it isn’t recommended to wash merino wool very often because it’s bad for the shirts. So wearing them every day is counterproductive
It's a GSHOCK Mudmaster, just picked it up recently and absolutely love it. prf.hn/l/8x9LkZp I also talked about it in a bit more depth in a recent video if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/xDyc9-WkXHA/v-deo.html
Hi Josh, i'm a french canadian from gaspesie and literally a big fan of your work. Just like you, i had a big crush for unbound merino! For the boots, i thought you liked barefoot shoes? Any recommendations for a good barefoot winter boots?
Definitely a fan of the barefoot shoes! I’m not exclusive to them outside of hiking and have a few low drop pairs of shoes I’ve grown to love as well. I actually just picked these up with the danner boots to have some color/style variety: prf.hn/l/DRqoWWw I thought about including both but wanted to keep the video length down as much as I could. The tread isn’t quite as substantial as the danners so I don’t think they’re as versatile. As a city/town boot though initial impressions are great. Really comfortable, great wide toe box like most zero drop brands. I’ll probably talk more on both pairs down the road as I test them further but both are great so far.
I wouldn’t say they’re itchy, but the lada sweater, wills speckled crewneck, and allpaca hoodie definitely have a rougher texture to the fabrics. Still very cozy and comfortable imo, but any loose knit style of fabric like those will have some roughness to the feel compared to a cotton shirt or something.
Hi Josh! Always appreciate your recs! I am trying to find a good warm outer layer, and eyeing the outdoor vitals vario jacket, but as a merino-lover I always have a problem with synthetics stinking up for backpacking purposes. How has your experience been with the vario jacket so far? (Or ur previous outdoor vitals piece)
I’d say it’s on par with any other synthetic in my experience. I usually don’t have a lot of issues for stink in my mid/outer layers though since it’s not in direct skin contact. My Ventus hasn’t been washed once and still smells okay I think after a whole season of use, but you can always wash as needed a lot easier than down insulation pieces.
I’m in a new-ish apartment building and luckily it hasn’t been an issue for me. I’ve never had to look into it that thoroughly but I’ve always heard cedar is the best deterrent.
If anyone has any sizing/fit questions, leave a comment and I can help out! Any have new pickups for the season?

Might be worthwhile to send a picture to them and get their thoughts
Hey Josh. Good to see you on here. I really like the look of that Alaskan Guide shirt! Good color selection too.
Long time no talk, awesome to see you on here! That guide shirt has been great, absolutely love the quality of my Filson items.
Awesome set! We Missed you in Austin! hope all is well!

It’s a favorite of mine too, glad you’re enjoying yours! Super comfy and plenty warm for so many situations.
Great video! Thanks!
Happy to share, glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Josh. Just found your channel. Great content, thanks for the inspiration.
So glad to hear it, thanks for the support!
Co-sign on the Proof Rover pants. They've replaced all of my Lululemon ABC pants. Less slim, better material look and feel (in my opinion.)

Really helpful video. Definitely picking the Lada Sweater. Where's the tee you're wearing in the video from if you could share? Love it.
Thanks
Loving the sweater, I'm sure you won't regret it! The tee was the Pioneer pocket tee from Filson, here's the link if you're interested: bit.ly/3gPqi9h
Can you give an update on the Danner boots in a few months?
Absolutely! Initial impressions are excellent and Danner has a great reputation, but long term use is so important for judging boots.
Subscribed!
Thanks for the support!

The best season!

Glad you’re loving them too! Did a ton of research before picking those up when I did and couldn’t be happier with them.
Great video Josh, is that a Gshock on the wrist? What model? Looking for an upgrade.
Great eye! So excited someone caught it haha, just picked this one up and it's been amazing. It's the GGB-100, here's the link: prf.hn/l/BOxVmg3

I feel this, it's like if you're gonna have a capsule wardrobe, have it all work everywhere.

No problem!
Damn… I wanted to buy the woolly pants but you can only buy them in the us… not in europe:(
That’s too bad! I know they’re a pretty small company, hopefully they’ll be shipping worldwide soon

Hey Josh, nice clothing. I'm curious how you protect your wool clothing from moths? Has that ever been an issue for you?
I’m in a new-ish apartment building and luckily it hasn’t been an issue for me. I’ve never had to look into it that thoroughly but I’ve always heard cedar is the best deterrent.
I just want to hear you butcher Fjellreven as FJALLRAIVEN some more :D
sounds good, I’ll make a fresh video for you
What hat are you wearing?
Probably should have added that in too, sorry about that! Here’s the link: bit.ly/3CnnOYd
🤝🤝
UPS green for the Americans?😂 UPS is brown
Filson calls it ‘root’, It’s a green/brown color that definitely reminds me of UPS.
I came here to see if anyone mentioned that. They are famous for their brown uniforms. No green though.
Turns out Josh had a career in modeling, in case the YT Channel didn't work out.
Haha no way, definitely out of my comfort zone getting the shots for this video already.
