  • Back in the day while field-testing our original prototype Kodiak Custom Bottom Fish Jig, Tony "Famous" Davis hooked into a record class halibut that weighed 420 lbs. and exceeded the current I.G.F.A. world record at the time! But wait, there’s more!
Upon violating several I.G.F.A. rules while struggling to bring this barn door halibut to shore, our two-man team blew any chance of securing a spot for Kodiak Custom and our bottom fish jigs in the record books!
To top that off, we captured all of the action on film and this epic battle (World Record Halibut, It Is but It Isn’t) can be viewed right here on our channel! Watch to the end for a full report on the I.G.F.A. rules that we broke.
This video is a low resolution original cut. We will re-digitize our footage and make a high resolution modernized version soon. Keep an eye out for that and don't forget to hit our subscribe button!

When I caught this halibut I was testing out a proto-type Kodiak Custom Fishing Tackle Bottom Fish Jig that was still in the research and development faze. Needless to say, the jig turned out to be a winner. You can find them on the Kodiak Custom web site.

I would think the rule that was broke was he handed off the rod to someone else?

You want the blood to be pumped out before death, if you dont, you will destroy the meat with a fishy taste. This is one of the many reasons to make sure they are dead! obviously you have never caught a barn door. great job! nice fish!

you hooked fought and landed it from your boat, that is rediculouse that they would not accept it as a record.

It's still a bigger fish....record is about size of the fish I dont care if it took 17 people to bring it in, a bigger fish is a bigger fish.

Had that same questions asked on a charter; so we tossed a few big ones on deck and let them dance, until someone said "OWWW", then we explained broken ankles and legs.
