My five year old walked in the living room, your video on the TV and she asked “what’s the girl reading today mom?” That’s how often I watch your videos!
If you liked Finlay Donovan, I'd recommend Dial A for Aunties. It's got similar murder/comedy over-the-top vibes, but with a strong family focus. I loved both and am excited for their respective sequels this year.
Adding onto the recommendation train, but if you liked Dial A for Aunties, I'd recommend Arsenic and Adobo! It's also a murder comedy with a strong focus on family
Don’t feel bad about low ratings, your 1⭐️ for Wild Places makes me want to read it more since all I see is 4 and 5s 😂 I gotta know how so many people love it and then Kayla hits it with the one star
🌸 when I first started watching your channel, our reading taste hardly overlapped, but now I’ve tried so many new things and found so many new genres I enjoy!
🌸🌷 I love the way you talk about books even if you didn’t particularly like them you still pitch them in a way that might help somebody else pick it up
If you’re rereading the Wayward Children books next January you should think about doing a readalong or spoiler filled Liveshow! I love the series and would love an in-depth spoiler-y discussion about the series. I’d also love an excuse to reread the whole series 🤣
"Piranesi" was my favorite book of 2021, and I think it usurped "This is how you lose the time war" for the all-time fav spot. Just reading it during the initial quarantine really hit.💮🌸🌺🌷
🌸🌸🌸 These videos are dangerous for my "want to read" shelf on Goodreads because I find a lot of the books you talk about really interesting. And I find both your recommendations and your dislikes very helpful because you're extremely good at describing books objectively. When you review them I know definitively whether or not I should add them to my ever-growing list of books to read.
I’m going to pick up Finlay Donovan is Killing It. It sounds like it’s right up my reading alley. Amari and the Night Brothers is great! Me and my daughter (11) both love it. We give it as a gift now. 🌸🌺🌸🌺
I find it fascinating that you can even finish one and two star books. Also your range of genres is really inspiring. I’m far too picky and need to get over it.
💐💐💐💐 multiple bouquets for you! Hoping to get to migrations and piranesi at some point this year. Also may pick up ring shout now too, I really enjoyed the deep!
I love watching your videos because they're so honest! you don't shy away from disliking popular/hyped books or recommend books I've never heard of, which is why I keep getting back to your videos! we don't necessarily have the same tastes, but I always end up adding one or two books to my tbr after watching your videos :P 🌺🌼
🌷 thank you for making such long videos, it must be a lot of work but I can assure you that it's greatly appreciated; your positive energy (even when talking about books you didn't like!) is infectious and makes me feel better on 'meh' days 💕
I still need to read Finlay Donovan Is Killing It! I'm really excited to get to it. I'm really intrigued to read Come Closer. The cover is so stunning!
I can't wait to read Finlay Donovan is Killing It. My boyfriend bought it for me for my birthday. I've heard so many wonderful reviews. There aren't enough fun books out there! ☺
Coming back to this video after watching your mid year wrap up because I had to see your review of A History of Wild Places. I gave it a 5 star. 😅 I definitely saw the twist coming from a mile away, but that wasn’t the point of the story for me. I love books with dark, is-this-real-or-not vibes. And I love when characters are being controlled/manipulated without fully realizing that they are. Watching them slowly come into their power with the threat of the leader/government/etc finding out is so thrilling to me. Comparing it to The Grace Year was definitely accurate and it made me laugh because that was another 5 star read for me.
I picked up Amari and the Night Brothers because of your recommendation, am currently 75% of the way through it, and I am loving it! I plan on recommending it to my 9 year-old nieces as an audiobook during their next drive up to Michigan from Virginia in a couple months.
Omg thanks for answering my q about the Wayward Children! So excited now to finish up the series so I can compare my final ranking to your (albeit rough) one, just for fun. This vid has now moved 'When You Trap a Tiger' and, weirdly, 'A History of Wild Places' higher up on my tbr because now I'm ~curious~~~ 🌸🌹🌷🌻🌼
I loved Hench. Did not love the narrative voice at first, but overall ended up really loving the story it told about morality and how far we can really stretch that grey zone and the boxes we put the "good" and "bad" guys in. 🌷🌺🌸
It’s interesting you loved Amari but didn’t love Legendborn. I feel Amari is the middle-grade version of Legendborn. A lot of the same magic building/learning, school setting, vibes, etc. Would you agree? I’m loved both of them and plan to pick up both sequels! 🌸🌸
Ooh I loved The Deep so definitely want to pick up Ring Shout. I don’t typically go for horror but you kind of sold me on Come Closer too! I just finished Migrations tonight, based on your rec earlier this month, and boy it hit all the things I want in my reading life right now. Easy 5-star. Thanks for including it!
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 I love the way you talk about books! So descriptive for others instead of just cool/meeeh emotions without much more details. I also really appreciate the amount of books you talk about. There is always something new that is not hyped about everywhere + smth popular to learn one more opinion, and I almost always find something interesting for me in your recommendations 😘
I have been having a really, really tough day, and this book is like a warm hug at the end of it. Thank you for this video, as well as all of them, Kayla
I had so much fun with Finlay Donovan because it was set very close to where I live. All of the towns mentioned were places I go on a routine basis. All of the love for Ring Shout. You just reminded me that I need to purchase it. It’s one that definitely deserves to be on my shelf.
I loved the first Finlay Donovan book! I’m currently listening to the second one right now and loving it too. I’m excited that there will be more of them! 🌸🌸🌸
I really liked Finlay Donovan too … a fun ride. I’m dying to know where the mistake is in a History of Wild Places! I totally missed it and I really enjoyed the book! 🌸
Adding all of those 4 and 5 star reads to my immediate TBR! I read Where the Drowned Girls Go this month and also gave it 5 stars! Love hearing your thoughts on the Wayward Childrens series! :)
I finished Bunny today!!! I enjoyed reading it so much; not my typical book but i love your videos and for some reason this book stuck out in a video to me. So i finally picked it up and thanks to you Kayla i found a good read im now trying to resist a reread already! I am looking forward to your rabbit themed vlog in July/August excited to see possibly some more weird and fun books❤
I loved Finlay Donovan. It highy reminds me of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovitch which I have been reading for 20 years. Crazy senerio murder mystery stories. Except Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter.
Ohhh my gosh, I was so not into The Project by Courtney Summers because I'm not into cult plots (or maybe it was the way she wrote it). I had no idea A History of Wild Places involved cults!! No, thank you. Pleeease do a spoiler review of A History of Wild Places 🙏🏾
It was a lot of fun, and reminded me of men in black somewhat. I’ve been itching to do a reread and feel extra motivated seeing her talk about it. I hope that you love it!
I only read 4 books in January -Empire of the Vampire, The Death of Jane Lawrence (which put me in a MASSIVE reading slump), King of Battle & Blood, and Fire in His Blood. I'm hoping February is a better month numbers wise, but I really enjoyed Empire of the Vampire and King of Battle & Blood. Also hoping to get to some rereads this month!🌻
I've just had my wisdom teeth taken out, and I'm feeling pretty crappy. But as soon as I saw you'd uploaded, I managed a very swole smile - thank you! 🌷🌸🌷
🌸 I recommend you read "Klara and the sun" by Ishiguro. If you haven't already. I think it's a weird-interesting book that you'd like to read and talk about.
Where the Drowned Girls Go is my favorite book so far! I started reading this series because of you and I can‘t thank you enough!! One of my favorite series of all time!🥰
My name appears in the video, I feel so accomplished. It's always fascinating to see how much your idea of what a book is about can color your reading experience.
Since you like friendship groups - I wonder how you would feel about The Group by Mary McCarthy. Definitely a backlist. I saw your review of Little Women so I know you occasionally forage in the past. The Group was published in 1963.
The comfort your videos provide me is UNFATHOMABLE
EXACTLY!!!
Completely agree
Same!
Same!!!❤️❤️
Yes.
Came here to recommend the same!
Yes! I haven’t read Finlay yet but every time someone describes it I think of Dial A and I’m like I’m going to love that book!
Adding onto the recommendation train, but if you liked Dial A for Aunties, I'd recommend Arsenic and Adobo! It's also a murder comedy with a strong focus on family
Adding both of these books to my TBR!
I said that too!!
For me it’s the Magic Realism of Piranesi that really draws me in. If someone likes Life of Pi I think they will like really Piranesi too.
That's a really good comparison, I totally agree!
Interesting. I will have to check out Life of Pi, because Piranesi was a five star read for me.
Don’t feel bad about low ratings, your 1⭐️ for Wild Places makes me want to read it more since all I see is 4 and 5s 😂 I gotta know how so many people love it and then Kayla hits it with the one star

I have been watching a bunch of your videos while being a bit ill and they just soothe me so much, so thankful to you and your content.
🌸 your videos are so comforting. our tastes dont always align, but i always find your perspective to be so interesting.
🌷my mother liked pink flowers too. You brought precious memories to the surface with your pink flowers. 💗 Thank you 😊
I always love seeing what questions people give you bc they're always so varied & creative!
🌸🌸🌸
Kayla saying she hates cult books but loving Bunny got me just 👁👄👁
Huh that book definitely does not come to mind when I'm talking about cult books hahaha I guess I need to be more specific with my wording 😵💫
That really sucks about a history of wild places. It’s still on my TBR, and I was looking forward to it so much 🥺
I bet you'll love it!! It's getting great reviews from what I see 💕
You’re honestly such a good reviewer, i’m impressed every time 🌷
I find it fascinating that you can even finish one and two star books. Also your range of genres is really inspiring. I’m far too picky and need to get over it.
💐💐💐💐 multiple bouquets for you! Hoping to get to migrations and piranesi at some point this year. Also may pick up ring shout now too, I really enjoyed the deep!
🤗🤗🤗
I'm slowly catching up on your videos and I love how you sort your books in you wrap ups! So creative! 🌸

I liked Jar of Hearts. I listened to it while cleaning. The end left me shook.
I love the way you did the 5 letter word to describe the book! 🌸
🌸🌷 Thank you. I enjoy your book reviews so much. I get lots of good reading recommendations from your videos.
The cover of a history of wild places and your eyes match💚💚
I frigging love you. Your channel with you is like my new best friend. I have more fun laugh and get ahold of the best new reads. It’s my happy place.
I still need to read Finlay Donovan Is Killing It! I'm really excited to get to it. I'm really intrigued to read Come Closer. The cover is so stunning!
🌷 stuck around to see how you felt about Finlay Donavon is killing it. Lol I really enjoyed it. Looking for more books similar to that.
I can't wait to read Finlay Donovan is Killing It. My boyfriend bought it for me for my birthday. I've heard so many wonderful reviews. There aren't enough fun books out there! ☺
just found your channel and im kinda obsessed? I’m currently on a marathon of your videos

Ooooh. Thank you. I am so excited for some of these 🌼
And I looooove characters that “you constantly have to change your understanding”.
Ooooh, I am so glad that all 8 books will finally be out. I haven't started because I have been waiting for this moment.
I picked up Amari and the Night Brothers because of your recommendation, am currently 75% of the way through it, and I am loving it! I plan on recommending it to my 9 year-old nieces as an audiobook during their next drive up to Michigan from Virginia in a couple months.
Cora is my favorite too I absolutely love her and connect to her the most
Perfect timing bestie there was a lull in my evening 😌
🌸🌷
I read Jar of Hearts last year and yes to everything you said!🌺
okay would love for you to continue the wordle word trend with wrap ups!! 🌺
🌸 You may not read the books I do, but it is still always so fun to watch you gush about the books you have read!
I love watching your wrap ups 🤣 you always have some fun details haha. I love that you did a bunch of the suggested ones in this one 😝
Omg thanks for answering my q about the Wayward Children! So excited now to finish up the series so I can compare my final ranking to your (albeit rough) one, just for fun. Kayla bestie, you've gotten me addicted to Wordle because of your Wordle vlog 🤩😌
This video had me adding a few books to my TBR! I love your content and listening to you is so soothing! Can't wait to watch more from you. 🌸
Tae Keller is becoming one of my favorite middle grade authors. I really loved “Science of Breakable Things,” too.
🌸 I always watch your videos with Storygraph open in another window ready for me to add books to my to-read pile.
I loved Hench. Did not love the narrative voice at first, but overall ended up really loving the story it told about morality and how far we can really stretch that grey zone and the boxes we put the "good" and "bad" guys in. 🌷🌺🌸

🌸 I always pay attention to your videos. I like the book reviews. I like the family life. I like it all.
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

Definitely found a few things worth reading! 🌸
Can we just talk about how Lala's outfit matches the books' covers
I have been having a really, really tough day, and this book is like a warm hug at the end of it. Thank you for this video, as well as all of them, Kayla
Was I hitting refresh waiting for this to pop up...yes, yes I was
2022 looks better reading wise :D
I had so much fun with Finlay Donovan because it was set very close to where I live. All of the towns mentioned were places I go on a routine basis. All of the love for Ring Shout. You just reminded me that I need to purchase it. It’s one that definitely deserves to be on my shelf.
Got the merch on the LAST DAY! Excited! Also...🌸
I'd never heard of the book series with the children going through the doors. I'm intrigued and will definitely be taking a look at it! 🌸
I loved the first Finlay Donovan book! I’m currently listening to the second one right now and loving it too. I’m excited that there will be more of them! 🌸🌸🌸

I’m so glad you enjoyed The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein!! I feel like it’s very underrated 🌸
Bumping Piranesi up on my tbr! 🌻
Piranesi is on my tbr (along with other 20+ books), I guess I might end up pick it up sooner 🌸
Glad you liked "Migrations", can't wait to read. I read her other book "Once There Were Wolves" last year and was amazed by it.
I really liked Finlay Donovan too … a fun ride. I’m dying to know where the mistake is in a History of Wild Places! I totally missed it and I really enjoyed the book! 🌸
🌸 I love how insightful your reviews are! And it sounds like I need to bump up The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein on my TBR.
This was a fun wrap up. 🌸
Always enjoy your wrap ups 🌸
🌸 I’ve put so many of your book recommendations on my list and in my audible wish list and library, thanks for sharing 😄🌸
Always adding your 5 star reads to my top priority list
Come Closer is one of my best reads of last year! 💜 Glad you liked it too!

⚘ A few more to my tbr. I just received Amari from the library. I am reading it this week. Root Magic was fantastic and you might like it.
🌺 thank you for the video! Loved it!
🌸Between you and Oliviareadsalatte I am dying to read Finlay Donovan is Killing It! I also love your sweater 😍
I loved Finlay Donovan. It highy reminds me of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovitch which I have been reading for 20 years. Crazy senerio murder mystery stories. Except Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter.

You sold me on amari & tnb 🌺🌸🌷
It was a lot of fun, and reminded me of men in black somewhat. I’ve been itching to do a reread and feel extra motivated seeing her talk about it. I hope that you love it!

I've just had my wisdom teeth taken out, and I'm feeling pretty crappy. But as soon as I saw you'd uploaded, I managed a very swole smile - thank you! 🌷🌸🌷
Awww I hope you feel better soon!! 💕
🌸 i just started In My Dreams I Hold a Knife today on your recommendation 🌸
🌸 I recommend you read "Klara and the sun" by Ishiguro. If you haven't already. I think it's a weird-interesting book that you'd like to read and talk about.
I am definitely going to pick the last book now! I am not in the mood for a dark mystery right now and this looks perfect 🌸
Hahah yeah, Across the Green Grass Fields definitely felt like Tina Belcher Fan Fiction 🤣 🌸
Where the Drowned Girls Go is my favorite book so far! I started reading this series because of you and I can‘t thank you enough!! One of my favorite series of all time!🥰
I still haven’t gotten around to reading Where the Drowned Girls Go, but now I’m even more excited to read it!🌸
I just love your videos so much 🌸🌸🌸!
My name appears in the video, I feel so accomplished.
It's always fascinating to see how much your idea of what a book is about can color your reading experience.
The main character in the body finder has the same gift as the character in a history of wild places
Since you like friendship groups - I wonder how you would feel about The Group by Mary McCarthy. Definitely a backlist. I saw your review of Little Women so I know you occasionally forage in the past. The Group was published in 1963.
I loved The Humans, like sooooo much. It is ok to have a different opinion. That is the beauty of books! love your videos.
