  • Pécs, Hungary - Pécs is often overshadowed by the bigger city of Budapest. However, located in the Southern countryside of Hungary, Pécs is full of religious history and an incredible place worth visiting when in Hungary. From its massive basilica to the many beautiful cobblestone streets, the charming town of Pécs is easily one of my favorite towns in all of Hungary. In this video, we explore the entire town, including its opera house and many streets and the day after, we explore the basilica, one of the biggest landmarks of Pécs!
Thank you so much for watching!

Pecs in Roman times was the capital of Pannonia and called Sopianae. It is a magic place. Population 170'000.

Should be pronounced as Pech and not as Pex. Your perception of Pécs being a very small town is not quite accurate. Actually it is the size of Buda (Western part of Budapest) but it is built on the hills and valleys so you cannot really feel it. Besides it is a university town and gets very vibrant when the school starts. Probably you were there during the summer holiday season when locals leave the town for the beaches and sturdenst travel home. Once they are back it becomes vibrant.

If your not Hungarian they can't pronounce the é. So even the Pech will sound funny. I'm Hungarian. ❤

@@flyingroseu If you pronounce a word with a different accent people will still understand. If you pronouonce it wrong, people will not understand. No one will ever understand Pex, or Peks. Besides you are wrong, usually foreigners pronounce "e" as "é" as a default and have problems pronouncing a proper Hungarian "e". So it is just the opposite what you wrote.

@@LEK-we2hh 170 thousand is a small town on a global scale, and Pécs is actualy below 130 thousand by now. Even adding the suburbs, the total's not 170 thousand.

A few people commenting on the correct pronunciation. It is somewhere between 'peach' and 'paitch'.

Wish people would learn the correct pronunciation of Pécs before making a video.

Well, there is no Mosque in Pécs because the city has NO muslim population. (Proununce like Pech, not Pex).
The building of the former Mosque is a Catholic Church: the Inner-city Candlelit Blessed Virgin Mary Church.
Pécs locating in Central Europe, not Eastern Europe, and with it's 170.000 population the biggest city in Transdanubia (after Buda).

I learned how to say Bom Jesus in Portuguese before making my video of it. I don't speak Portuguese. A little effort goes a long way.
